i have been to chimney over 100 times, easy...the first time i went was due to the fairy legend... no fairies.. but the biggest butterflies in the world.. so i stayed here.. now i know all trails .. marked, unmarked, private and secret as well.... it's paradise here
Great video, thank you for sharing it with us. BTW, did you know that you can hike DOWN to the Chimneys? My wife and I hiked up several times over the years and finally we discovered the way to hike down to them. We haven't hike up since. Let me know if your are curious and I'll send trail directions. Thanks again! gary
Back in the mid 1990's I hiked up the old "forgotten" trail that branches off near the trail head and shoots straigth up to the top of the "second chimney." I would love to find out about your alternate trail. You can send me a message to my YouTube account. Thanks!
I was born and raised in Knoxville, one hour away, so I've been there many times. And as long as I've here and climbed that old mountain, I've not had anyone with me to take the challenge going over to the top. Maybe someday.... but I'm getting a little stiffer and older. 46 doesn't feel that old to some, but do you remember how your ankles felt the next day? LOL Good video!
Just went to the top for my 4th time a week ago. The weather was absolutely perfect the whole time, and the view was amazing. I haven't had to climb up the enormous rock face to get to the top before, but it was a fun challenge.
i just got back to ohio at 3oclock this morning from spending this past weekend in tennessee, i went up to chimney's and climbed out to the farthest peak ^_^ what a beautiful area this place is for sure! i'll be going back to Gatlinburg for 4 months in the winter as well~ snowboarding!
you spoil the whole thing with the music. its suppose to be about others experiencing your journey through your camera. i doubt the music was playing in the woods
i don't think he had to put this video up at all... why go the extra mile to allow someone the chance to experience something like that through their eyes when anyone watching can go hike the trail themselves? why complain about that?
Good video, when I was in college back in the 70's we hiked over the top and down the back side, it was almost a shear drop straight down. I think the back trail is closed now.
The chimmneys are a great hike. It's too bad you did not record the last 100 feet or so of the climb to the top. For those of us that have been there, you know what I am talking about. Many hikers do not finish the hike to the top due to the difficulty and fear of the rock climb. It took me two trips to the chimmneys before I had the nerve to take the final 100 feet. The view and challange is awsome.
Making the movie gave me the nerve to attempt the slippery climb to the top. I had to use both hands to make it and had to put away the carmera. Not bad for a first attempt right?
Certainly Chimney Tops trail has a steep angle up. The many rapids always grab your attention for a short stop. Then you hike up the wooded areas until you feel the difference in air density, temperature and thus sunshine. It's so quiet up there.
how long does it take to get to the top?

I took the main trail as depicted by the leading trail sign. Then I climbed up the rocks to the top.
