alot of the new diesels do that to burn off the contaminants in the exhaust filter.. its a government regulation on newer diesels and what it does is add extra fuel into the motor to burn the stuff out of the filter. lol but fords IMO suck.. and like i said in my opinion

it has to do with the EGR valve on the engine allowing transmission fluid to go through the turbo and be burnt in the engine. Its not dying by any means. It just needs to be fixed. This happened to my dads truck.

I just bought a 08' super duty yesterday and on my way back the same thing happened, it scared the shit out of me. Its just the regen process which is when the exhaust system burns off all the built up soot. If it weren't for DPF's, EGR's and all the emissions requirements these trucks would run 1,000 times better, stronger, faster, and last longer, but I'd like to keep my warranty...
Wrong gas, it's not the truck, it's the driver. I drive a 2000 F250 Super Duty 7.3L diesel. That beast has taken me 320k miles in 12 years. If you take care of the vehicle, the vehicle will take care of you.
@jstewart9356 Different story. The 7.3s were and still are the best engine Ford has put in their trucks, even though International Navistar built them. The 6.0 was trash, 6.4 was still problematic. We will have to see how the 6.7 does. And the only way to take care of a 6.0 or 6.4 is a total bulletproofing, i.e. over $4000 to do it right.

This is why top fuel dragsters run off of alcohol, to prevent detonation/ pre-ignition.
@drunkinmaster1 diesel engines run off of compresion the diesel fuel is compressed passed its flash point. and because of the higher compression the diesels actualy run hotter then gas. diesel is less volitial then gas so there for it has a higher flash point making it harder to burn then gas. and they run off alcohol because of its resistanve to burn allowing them to run higher compresion witch makes the cylinder actualy hotter but the alcohol wont pre ignight because of the octane

Wrong gas, it's not the truck, it's the driver. I drive a 2000 F250 Super Duty 7.3L diesel. That beast has taken me 320k miles in 12 years. If you take care of the vehicle, the vehicle will take care of you.

@jstewart9356 Different story. The 7.3s were and still are the best engine Ford has put in their trucks, even though International Navistar built them. The 6.0 was trash, 6.4 was still problematic. We will have to see how the 6.7 does. And the only way to take care of a 6.0 or 6.4 is a total bulletproofing, i.e. over $4000 to do it right.

@AwesomenessPrime427 Basically a Diesel works on controlled spontaneous combustion due to the heat from the compressed air,also Diesel is a more stable fuel than Gasoline in just about every way (yet it has more power in it figure that one out) and it takes hotter temps to ignite than Gasoline.

@D8W2P4 Diesel engines run off of detonation. Diesel is extremely rich and burns at very low temperatures. Higher octane fuels are more efficient at preventing detonation and pre-ignition because they burn cooler (alcohol cools). Diesel is much easier to ignite than gasoline. This is why top fuel dragsters run off of alcohol, to prevent detonation/ pre-ignition.

@drunkinmaster1 diesel engines run off of compresion the diesel fuel is compressed passed its flash point. and because of the higher compression the diesels actualy run hotter then gas. diesel is less volitial then gas so there for it has a higher flash point making it harder to burn then gas. and they run off alcohol because of its resistanve to burn allowing them to run higher compresion witch makes the cylinder actualy hotter but the alcohol wont pre ignight because of the octane

Laughing at all you people who are saying bad injectors, blown turbo etc. If you don't know anything about diesels or cars in general don't respond. It's a 6.4L so either the DPFE or an EGR problem. Not an EGR cooler. When the 6.4L there was an issue with them smoking like this. Forget the # but there was a TSB

Ford is the best hands down. This guy's turbo is blown out. Shit happens people, but I can tell u this much. He probably blew his turbo out by pulling the shit out of dodges and GM's, or he blew it out doing all the heavy duty jobs dodge and Chevy couldn't do.

If a car is designed in say Japan, then it is built in the U.S. by some company, the car is still a japanese car and the profits go back to feed the japanese economy, not the U.S. Sure locals get jobs building these cars but the majority of the money is going overseas. Live in America, BUY AMERICAN!

As for recalls, it's usually the foreign outsourced part on an American product that causes the recall. Foreign cars are full of recalled parts. Except German cars. My old K5 Blazer 6.2 diesel non-turbo would do that if all 8 glow plugs weren't hot enough when it started, basically running on 6/7 cylinders and pushing the unburned atomized fuel out the tailpipe.
