and im a biker myself admitedly only for 7 months but i filter occationally but i do it safely and slowly, and only past stopped traffic or very slowly moving traffic i.e. under 5mph and i dont weave through the traffic i just go down the side so if done safely then its fine and im sure those deaths were because of car drivers pulling out or cutting up the bikers and when you say filtering do you mean the same as i do?

I ride a bike in BC and can say with certainty that lane splitting or filtering is NOT perfectly legal here. There are valid arguments about it being safer, sure - but the law here does not allow it.
I also spend quite a bit of time in California and have see all KINDS of close calls caused by this practice. Snaking up to the light at 5 mph while traffic is stopped might be safe - but I see people ripping down that white line at 80 mph while the rest of the traffic is doing 50.

Over here in the UK. Driving down the middle of the road/in bewteen cars is called filtering which is completely LEGAL. And in some cases skipping the queue of traffic is safer than just sitting at the back of the queue waiting for the next car to rear end you with the excuse of "I didnt see you"

@bcnewsvideo Filtering is completly legal , So by doing so bikes are still respecting the rules . By making there way to the front of traffic they are also avoiding the danger of a 2 car 1 bike sandwich . Filtering isnt just a matter of "Most be first" .

I'm the same mind as the biker, car drivers should wake up, it pissess me off how many people tailgate, it's like YEAH SURE I'l go at 100mph (50 over the speed limit) while theres 80-100 mph cross winds on a little bike because some jackass is tailgating. Car drivers should be forced to take a road awareness course every 6 months.

Hey I'm a biker too but I would say the same applies for AT LEAST half of those I see on two wheels too. Bikes (Especially sport bikes) LOVE to break the rules but watch the finger pointing once something goes wrong.
For the record, 2001 Shadow 750 Spirit. No lane splitting, no riding over 20km/h faster than traffic speed. The same can't be said for all bikers.

There is no excuse for a rearend collision, and that could just as easily been serious if not fatal for the rider of the bike. There is no such thing as a Motor vehicle Accident. Ask the police, they don't call them accidents, they call them MVC's.
Car drivers have little consideration for motorcyclist. And when someone gets killed, they lay Highway traffic charges against the driver of the car.
