I visited Glasgow recently (as a non-UK visitor) and was absolutely appalled by the density of junk food vendors in town and junk food products in supermarkets. At that time I didn't know anything about the town's figures in the national ranking of poverty and life expectancy and was really puzzled. As soon as I went back home I researched those figures and what had so genuinely shocked me finally made sense. A very sad sense indeed.

Easterhouse is on the extreme north east of the city and the Gorbals is immediately outside the city centre to the south of the river Clyde.
