Is Gore Verbinski playig guitar (also) on this track? I guess the video has had too big budget for the point at his career as a filmmaker, since he started it at this same year (1996, The Ritual, short movie).
Thank you for posting this song. I first heard it off of The Bored Generation compilation and didn't know exactly what I was getting into (I think I was 13). It changed my life.
Jay now understands that Brett left to take care of Epitaph. Jay also said that that Brett made the right choice because Bad Religion could still continue, but Epitaph needed him to put out records for all the bands on the label. This was stated on BR's Live at the Palladium DVD.
Why the hell would the do that? Jay Bentley fucking rocks, and besides, he's back now, so who gives a shit? He didn't really hate him, he was just really mad at him, and needed to vent.
It wasn't that simple, lamkl123. There was a lot of tension between Brett and the others, mainly Greg and Jay. We don't know the specifics, but Brett does regret it now (and admits that he was under a lot of business pressure and went back to drugs for a while). The three of them were, for the most part, very close friends since high school.
This song, specifically, was apparently because Jay accused Brett of caring more about money than the band.
Yeah, Brett was kicked out for drug use which he has openly admitted. But now Brett is back in the band for studio recordings only. Shame he dont tour anymore, but with Greg H and Brian on guitars, they do a bang up job of filling in for him.
Also it's said that this song is directed towards Jay, exactly for this accusation.
On a live video during the height of their tensions I also heard Greg singing something along the lines of "I want you to know why Brett did crack" during their performance of Stranger Than Fiction.
Of the second one I am not so sure, for the quality of the video is pretty bad (Old VHS I got from a friend), and therefore sometimes the lyrics can be a bit hard to distinguish... (Feel free to prove me wrong)
Yeah but after 3 Bretless albums, and I think I read somewhere that if he hadn't said he'd come back for the Process Of Belief then BR would've disbanded.
I used to have this two song CD and I really loved it. Too bad I loaned it to a friend who moved away and still has my CD. Been trying to find another copy, but no luck :(
Raism do have a cover of this song, and also have a song called "Negative", both on their album Aesthetic Terrorism. The two song titles are mixed up on the album.

wow I think brett is a very talented songwriter but this song is by far weaker than any of those that he wrote for bad religion.

Why did he hate Jay Bentely? If that was true they should have booted him out and got Brett back.
