  • “It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."

    Henry David Thoreau.

  • Brian Eno is a fantastic and visionary artist.

  • I saw it... was pretty cool. I was completely alone in the room though, so I stole a bit of whatever the piles were made of. I thought it was gravel or some kind of tiny croutons but it's this shiny papery stuff... neat.

  • You either like it or you don't; any comment beyond that makes you a critic. Do we really need more of those? I hope not. I'm just glad that someone out there can create interesting art that I like. Thanks Brian, please don't stop.

  • wtf is this?

  • @TheDantheman21 Creation is what this is, pure and simple. Before or rather than a musician, or a painter, or a biased proponent of some other artistic medium, he is a creator.

Thank you for the example you set, Mr. Eno. You immensely inspire me and it's a sheer pleasure.

One day, I hope to see him around, and I'll ask if he has ever seen MY work :)

  • wow. you guys really got carried away with that one...

  • I like how evolutionary theory is once again being used in simulation software... It works! ... and yes, why do so many still deny evolution working at all?

  • Once again, you haven't a clue what you are talking about. Brian Eno is utilizing a generative program in which he inputs data which is then reverberated at various intervals to create a randomized sequence where no two elements are ever shown simultaneously. Its basically visual Frippertronics, the system he used to create generative music back in the 70s. The system does not utilize evolutionary theory at all because generative systems dont evolve, they are static.

  • Eno doesn't really understand what an artistic experience is. Every person who views the same piece of art of an art object comes to it with their own unique experience. It's more subtle than what Eno says makes his process different than what he says an artist creates but has existed since Duchamp. Sorry Brian - this is just Rauchenberg with a TV monitor.

  • Always with the critics...

  • Well Eno is just wrong - if that makes me a critic then so be it. When artists get to a certain age they begin to believe their own bullshit. I like BE but his take is highly unoriginal even if it's with a TV.

  • I haven't ever known Eno to be anything less than original and inspired.

  • Good thing then that yes men are not the final arbiters of aesthetic philosophy and the semiotics of creative experience.

  • Quite a leap of logic there, Einstein. You get out the thesaurus throw around crappola to see if anything will stick. You're a zero. Art and the artist please who they will. It is envy you deal with. You should be so fortunate to have a lifetime of creative success as has Mr. Eno. Not likely with your attitude, son. *L*

  • Thanks for making my point so beautifully. Cheers :)

  • Actually, young snob, you illustrated your pomposity, arrogance, and jealousy. As I said, if you had a career one-tenth as successful as Mr. Eno, with fans around the world who appreciated whatever it is YOU do, you wouldn't be so negative. The gall of someone as inexperienced as you - I bet you voted for Obama. *L*

  • Now your just embarrassing yourself son. :D

  • Look buddy, you're a snob - why don't you just admit it? I'm happy to admit that you're a snob. Art is for those who enjoy it. Why don't you just admit you're a snob, and you don't like Eno's art and be done with it? No, you are of the ilk that must denigrate the artist and those who enjoy their art - like pompous fans of 'indie' rock who jettison their band du jour when then start writing better songs and end up with hit records. *L* So stupid...

  • LOL

  • You even LOL in an envious manner.

  • LMFAO

  • yeh yeh and rauschenberg is just modern dada and Duchamps his daddy forget the justification for art and enjoy the visual or space. I wish artists would burst their bubble of hubris once in a while and bow out gracefully....

  • I still don't know how you can con volute faith and creativity. What has one to do with the other? What has the technology - nothing but a tool so far - to do with creativity? You can create quality with inferior tools.

The quality of your arguments however is beyond my comprehension.

If I perceive them as completely muddled, illogical, contrived, leading me to ignorance of what you are trying to say - maybe the problem rests with you.

  • This wonderful man is WAY BEYOND creativity..and off into another world! Look who he has worked with...U2, Talking Heads, Coldplay!

And now these beautiful paintings..I can't wait to hear his talk- in Sept. it must be a mind-expander for sure!

  • Yes, he's creativity meets logic and reason... something most Theists have yet to do :D

Creativity is nice, but living your life by it is retarded... seriously, the best artists in history were retarded in one form or another, and they lived their lives by their retardation, hence, their art...

But art, or creativity in general, does not have to be seperate from logic, unlike many theists want you to believe.

  • and they lived their lives by their retardation, hence, their art...

    you sound like borat.

where do you get your immense wisdom from?

hat actually do you mean by your statements.

    Noise, signifying nothing.

  • and yet, you sound like a creationist... using an arguement from ignorance.

What I meant by my statements, is that most theists today believe that you should focus on faith(creativity for example can be both be influenced by faith, and influence faith indirectly)... rather than using logic or reason.

My statement was that Brian Eno does not rely completely on his creativity... that is what makes him the artist we know through technology.

  • @Blackfish100

    - bah, I suppose I'm just busy fighting off all those anti-evolutionists trying to screw over science...

That, and my sister is an artist, used to use logic, and then became a theist... I ended up doing deep research into the history or art and came to the conclusion that the vast majority of ancient artists were either very theistic, mentally retarded, or both.

This video may not have anything theistic about it, but the history of art sure does.

  • @Blackfish100

    - really though, you're rather over-reacting from a comment that really said nothing wrong about brian eno... why are you getting so worked up over it?

  • @Blackfish100

    - I could say the same about you quite easily, but again... I can't truly claim that artists were mentally retarded in ancient times... nor can you claim they weren't... but many great artists in modern times are mentally retarded, such as sevaunts. Someone who has lost their capacity for logic, doubles their creativity

I never said that living a creative life lacks logic or reason, I think you just went a little too emotional about it because I mention oh-so-precious religion.

  • @Blackfish100

    - ah I see, you were taking my sarcasm literally :D

calm down, you're going so overboard one would assume you are a theist.

    (also sarcasm)

  • Yeah, you get proven wrong and instead of being man enough to admit it you claim it was 'just sarcasm'. BTW, none of your previous statements can be interpreted as being sarcastic. I guess sarcasm is yet another thing you know nothing about.

  • @Blackfish100

    - exactly, that's what I said >.> I was praising brian eno for his logic and reason...

  • @Blackfish100

    - *sigh* May his Noodliness slime upon you.

    rAmen

  • @Blackfish100

    - there's a reason I stopped bothering to answer your comments.

  • The reason is that what you've said is dead wrong and you don't have the intellectual integrity to admit it.

  • WOW That's off the hook...

  • all you need really is to be forced by your parents to play a musical instrument, then join a band and make loadsa money so you can make your own music with that loadsa money and then do things like this because you can.

im poor, im in limbo, ive been completely blinded by all the crap on internet and tv and radio thinking i can be an artist or a film maker or a guitarist.

when you cant. the only way to is if you have money. therefore money is useless and so is everything

  • wow. okay. how about no. you are so far off. it's called improvisation and creativity. if you aren't smart enough to make art while you're poor, than you're not even meant to be an artist in general... my brother for instance... he schemed out this plan where he works a summer driving job. goes on unemployment insurance during the winters when touring is dead... and he snowboards all winter with great people that love life. sure he lives small, but he rips a fierce mountain. that's his art.

  • unless you're a lazy pessimist shit that can't live without whining and doing nothing. if that's anyone hear then just say peace to yourself right now. its gutsy shit, you gotta work.

  • brian eno has mostly an interesting view on things.

  • Maravilloso

  • Brian Eno is always cutting edge. Fantastic! Is there a software program available for artists like me, who want to create their own generative art?

  • artmatic

  • @moonphone I think if u want to be an artist you have to figure out the software and learn about computer programming, that's one of the big efforts of some artists. Also i think is not really difficult, try it someday. It opens a hole new way of art, as Brian says.

  • @Bsimple most graphic artists don't know, and don't need to know how to program. Learning how to use software is the most important. That being said, programming can be very powerful in the hands of an artist to create a new technique or a new tool, or perhaps even a whole new program.

  • Very interesting. It reminds me of a piece called "Deconstructing Piero" that I saw in a Michael Craig-Martin exhibition. It had moved or changed the places and colours of the various characters from Francessca's "the flagellaation" and rearranged them randomly. A note indicated that you were likely never to see the same variant again.

  • Brian eno is a genious. So textural and spacious.

  • "genius"

    ;)

  • how diverse, yet a bit of an eye-sore.

  • So much explaining to do if you want to cover all 77 mill pictures.

  • Brian és o maior dino ........

  • Ingles, por favor.

  • Eno is a freakin' genius.

  • why do you think people make art?

  • dimwitissimomorama! mildyamusinnosense/ lubbish + bad artschool =nearkitsch 10 cent blanndottori!

  • I had the good fortune to catch the installation of this for Long Now at the YBCA in San Francisco. Really amazing. I love the software version of this project, but it just doesn't compare to a live exhibition.

  • I'm a huge fan and have been for years, but the power consumption/CO2 is real and doesn't scale, generative art = look at nature everyday, now thats shocking.I'm sure efficiencies will come along, but its easier on the planet to watch it in SL or as a netcast service.

  • brian eno is the shit

  • Not very sustainable. I understand these big display screens are sucking the power and therefore driving up climate change. Ironic that we be prompted to sit round and feed as major cause of melting ice caps! Sorry Brian -- novel as it is, you confuse art and entertainment with technology. 77 million images of nothing special. Better to go and watch the flowers grow while we still can.

  • You don't understand the term "ironic," do you? I'd hate to be perpetually angry as you appear.

  • I see irony (en-wikipedia-org/wiki /Irony) -- see what you wish. Anger? No. Basic research indicates links between the increasing use of wide-screen technology and base-load power demand -- & thus CO2. Eno is irrelevant but suggesting greater active use of these devices to watch changing images is irresponsible. Practice looking at ink blots and using your imagination -- it's cheaper and you'll probably learn more! (... and that's not irony -- that's sarcasm!)

  • You are pushing against a wall russellc54. You're using up your energy on something that will not go away. If you stop pushing against the wall the wall will still be there but you will not be using up your energy in vain ..

  • Why discourage people from watching TV screens. That's not the culprit of global warming, its industrial agriculture, and private transportation. Balls!

  • Keep coming back don't you?

  • yes

  • There ain't no "climate change." Try a non-sheep thought for a second.

  • why do you think people make art for a distraction for entertainment what people think of it after is unimportant

  • Damn it, I wish I could figure out a way to contact him on this stuff.

Brian, if by some chance you stumble across this, hit my site and drop me an email, I'd LOVE to talk with you about this.. we've gone down similar paths.

    hilltopdesign dot com

    Hit the link for Contact.

  • He actually doesn't really like to talk to fans about his music.

  • Wonderful. Maybe he should create a banner or flash-applet, functioning basically in the same way as the dvd, causing intrigued parties to freely showcase his inspiring (!) work. I'd myspace it.

  • Very interesting stuff.. I'm glad we have people around like Eno who combine the thought process of an inventor with the aesthethic appreciation of an artist..

  • this guy found a van Gogh at flea market

    petroz dot com

  • what's this shit? i pity the fucker who believes this crap.

On the video: Eno is amazing.

  • piss off

  • Brian eno,always good!

  • Art is not dead it is sensationally seeping from Brian's Brain! Love it

  • amazing, love eno thaks so much for posting that

  • I have seen this exhibition at the Baltic in Gateshead, was very moving. I sat for about 45mins in complete awe

  • Same here, I couldn't leave my seat.

  • Windows Media Player does the same thing with it's Random generator.

  • WMP - hardly has interesting ...

  • you're an idiot.

  • ...Windows Media Player looks completly different.

  • Windows Media Player sucks shit.

  • Watch the clips of "The Origin of Painting" by Disinformation

  • wow.... when will it come to our homes??

  • Brilliant, as usual.

  • As someone who has worked in both music and art, I find this piece of Eno's work to be mazing and very humbling. Very impressive.

  • A unique concept from one -enonly multi-conceptualist

of sound , vision and imagination..great!

  • It's like visual Soundscapes. The first image at one point looks like the cover of Nerve Net.

  • Eno's art has been, and always will be, ahead of his time.
