  • The craftmanship is what gets me. Even in this old footage you can really get a sense of how well-made the clothes were; not like the garbage the big fashion houses try to pimp to people nowadays. They can keep some of those corseted dresses and furs, but it sure would be great if that kind of artistry and craftsmanship returned to fashion...

  • this is circa 1950-55

  • Looking at these fashions, I can almost guarantee it was made between 1957 and 1959. I am going by the fashions, but also the later hairstyles and the style of television. The 1940s were characterized by square shoulders with exaggerated padding, also the hair styles were much more with bangs and most obviously this is a television broadcast that's nice and crisp. Television even in the early 50s looked very grainy and this is very clear... later in the 1950s for sure.

  • Does anyone know how you would classify / describe the background musical style? I need this kind of music for a stage production, but can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • This was done between 1955 and 1960...

  • This is fashion from the mid 1940s!

    werry beautiful dresses:D

  • This is Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing it, theatrecorner. As a vintage seller, I dream of finding vids like these.

Folks - the 'vanity' killing of animals isn't cool to me either.

That's why I always recommend that if you must wear fur - BUY VINTAGE.

We can't undo what's been done (like 30 - 80 years ago), but we can slow the current process down. JMHO

  • Wow, Hattie Carnegie and Lilly Daché! I still have one of my mom's Lilly Dach´'s hats. Looks like early to mid-50s.

  • The idea then was to look sophisticated and !Adult! The young women of today try to pull off these looks today and they look pathetic. Most of the women in this video probably had formal dance training and were taught how to behave like ladies at all time. You can't fake it you have to live it.

  • @feb67ruary exactly!but then again thats all they had,you know? they HAD TO ACT like ladies....but yes some young women today look pathetic pulling this off because they do it the slutty or whore-ish way..

  • @feb67ruary pshaw. who in their right mind would want to wear dead animals and prance around? this is why the 60s happened. Leave the prancing to drag queens, no woman in their right mind would stuff herself into a girdle and 300 lbs of underwear anymore, you obviously never wore this stuff. I remember how stupefying it was to do so, and I am delighted that women dumped this stereotype yrs ago. The drag queens can have it.

  • how 'bout my two front teeth!?

  • These models were nearly as young the models of our days, the 1950's hair just makes you look older

  • FURE FURE FURE love it who cares there animals there going to die anyway and besides the look gorgeous wrapped around the body of a woman ahahahaha GO FUR!!!!

  • animal killers!!!!

  • @mskatwoman022008

where do you think the meat you eat comes from?

Ever been to a slaughter factory?

  • Could this be 'M. Solomon on Parade,' a regular feature on WRGB, Schenectady, in the '50s? M. Solomon had fur stores in Albany NY and Pittsfield Ma.

  • @kvn953

I bet 10 bucks your right! I remember that program it was on once a week.

  • They were thin then. But fewer people were overweight so they probably didn't seem thin. Little waists.

  • The minks coats at $7,000 is equal to $100,000 today. Very few people lived that life in the 1950s..The show was a dream for most women.. Note how old the models are? Young girls in their teens were not models back then...Twiggy changed that in 1964.She also introduced super skinny annorexic as the state of art for models... Models were older in the 50s...and had long careers and were not superstars like they are today.

  • QVC of it's time.

  • super memory of this time never comes, but they stat killing animals for vanity that it is really pitty in my opinion ,ana from brazil 2007
