Beautifully played but definitely wrong time and place. The USMC graduation ceremony at PI is about honoring and welcoming the new Marines. It's the end of 13 weeks of hell, earning your own Eagle, Globe & Anchor, and joining the FMF. It has nothing to do with how well the band plays. As someone who did my time on PI, I can honestly say that I completely agree with prv8eye. They should stick to the traditional ceremonial marches for graduation and do their showing off at the local parades.
Our son graduated at Parris Island about 5 weeks prior to this video. It was warm there and the band was awesome, not to mention the cock roaches at night! Semper Fidelis! btw he went to Iraq 3 times and is our Hero!!!
Sorry, I hate it. These dancing jazz numbers seem to be more about showing off the skills of the band than to celebrate and set the mood for a military graduation.
I like the music, just the wrong time and place. Doesn't send a chill up your spine or pump up your pride like the military marches did when I graduated from PI in 75.
This sucks........ For all those recruits who weren't graduating that day.... hahahahaha. Hearing stuff like that during Boot Camp made time crawl by....
its a music pouch. Traditionally the marine band always needed an obscene number of marches ready to go, so they had a bag to hold their flip folders. When i was in the navy band I wished I had a setup like that instead of just holding it.
No- you need 20/20 for certain jobs, but you don't need perfect vision to be in the Marine Corps. I'm an example- will be going to PI in August- i have crappy vision.
elvinaxe...you should know your shit before you go tellin people the wrong thing...although it is very hard to get into the Marine band..you do not need a bachelors degree just to get looked at..you just need to know your music and your instrumatn..Infact most of these men and women went into the corps after high school
very srisp for the size and clean ,alos i dont know if you know it is very hard to get in to the marine corp band just like it is for there silent drill team ,you have to have at least a bachelors degree in music jut to get looked at
That is not true at all. I'm in the Army Music program and therefore went to the School of Music with Marines, and a lot of them were just out of high school. Granted some of them did have music degrees but not a lot of them. However for all the services you need to pass a rigorous audition to be considered.
How do I get into the Army Music Program? I want to be in percussion once I get out of High School. I play snare now, but I want to take it further. Help?
This clip is of Marines, but if you want Army you can do full time or part time via Army National Guard. It's a great way to get an education and serve your country. Start googling Army Bands or Army National Guard Bands, and, of course, Marine Bands.... if you can hack it.
Very lush sound (per expectation, of course)! I always love it when a relatively small unit like this can sound this good --- I'll even watch a Division II DCI Corps, if they've "got game", and cheer all the harder for 'em because they do what they do without the "full-size artillery". :-)
Awesome video of this wonderful band! We saw them perform first hand as we were sitting in the bleachers on this very same day as our son graduated boot camp with Bravo Co!!! Thanks for posting this amazing video.
Excellent! 8 years in "The Commandant's Own" (the Truman Crawford years) and I do believe that I missed out by NOT being in one of the field bands! Semper Fi.
I've been to two Marine graduations for my sons and saw the Evening Parade at 8th and I this past summer. I never get tired of the Marine Bands. Thanks for posting this. Semper Fi
I meant to put Bravo, I accidently put Alpha because that was my old company before I got held back because of a foot injury and joined them during the rapel tower to finish The Crucible... anyway, it was my mistake, and it amazes me that people can be so fucking rude, especially being a ripe 44 years old, but I'll be the more mature one and leave it at that. Semper Fi, oorah.
Sorry to hear that you were injured and had to come to Bravo but do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Act like a Marine son, not a foul mouthed pig! BTW, where do you get that I'm 44?
Your age is in your profile. Be proud of your age and YOU should act like a Marine if you ARE...SON. Sheesh... I think it is great ChyldofMetal graduated and hed the guts to go through the crucible twice!
LOL... name that tune... even the jarheads can't tell you.... lol. The ARMY tunes we all know & they BLOOOOOW these clowns awaaaaaay.....

Why didn't they play the Marines' Hymn????
fmagalhaes1521 2 years ago
@fmagalhaes1521 Because everyone sings it at the end of graduation.
arrowood13 6 months ago
True. However I'm sure the played plenty of songs appropriate for a graduation. There is nothing with a couple fun songs.

@prv8eye thats what the aim of the band was. to show off how good they are numbnuts. read the discreption

Why do they use french horns, not melophones? Got to see them when my brother graduated in August. He is a PFC.
RebelGreg 3 years ago
i think they use french horns so they gey the original horn sound that the melophone dosent really get all the way
someboredguy777 3 years ago
why do they have the little pouches on their waist? do they keep something in there or is it just for looks?

Um, I saw a number of people with glasses on. Is it true you have to have 20/20 vision to be in the USMC? That's what some1 told me.
Great vid tho!

you just got to wear the "nerd" glasses. They have thick plactic frames and lenses which make them extremely hard to break.
