  • These cars are better on fuel than the SUV's truck-cars built in the late 90's

  • @moparracer3 That's an interesting point! Those large SUV's had major weight, and it is sure hard to wring fuel economy when weight is a major player! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Of course it's a 440! The luxury cars always got the largest displacement engine available for their massive torque. A little gas and they would be off and running, but quick! Most of todays young people aren't aware the supercars of the sixties and early seventies used these luxury car engines. You didn't shell out big bucks for a luxury car back then just to be last from the green light!

  • @Mrtriumphchopper That's a good point..the massive weight of these cars demanded it!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • My grandfather used to drive one of these, back when I was a kid...It was one of the reasons I looked forward to his visits to our house--he would come over on holidays, always in a suit, wearing a fedora, long after they were going out of style. They were both classics. I'd give anything today for one of these, or a '71, midnight blue 4 dr. LeBaron. I doubt I'll ever get to drive something like these cars again--I don't even see them anymore at local car shows.

  • @mouseroma You've expressed the reason why I post these videos...they often bring back memories of the cars, and more importantly, the people who drove them. They were often so important in our lives! I think a lot of these big cars fell victim to high gas prices, and traded off for "economy rides". It is really sad to see them pass into history.

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • @caleb6868 Hey, Caleb! Yes, I know what you mean...restoring youth requires more than a coat of wax! LOL! Thanks! :) Jack

  • No. Thank you for keeping the fire burning!

  • @yjuana My pleasure to tell it! :) Jack

  • 5 years ago, I flew from Chicago to Oakland. Spent the night in San Francisco. Took a train to Sacramento. Took a bus to Chico. Bought a 1967 Imperial Crown Hardtop. Drove to Los Angeles thru wine country. Fixed the brakes. Then drove 2100 miles on Route 66 (what's left of it) back to Chicago. Now, I keep it in climate controlled storage from November thru April and take it out on weekends May thru October. She's not perfect. But she's completely original.

"What a cure for mid-life crisis."

  • @yjuana That's a great story...and a tribute to the longevity of the 67 Imperial Crown! I followed part of old 66 from California to Texas..it's my hope someday to catch the rest of it to Chicago! Driving the old road, in a vintage car, plus the CA wine country, it doesn't get better than that! Thanks! :) Jack

  • have a 68 imperial to , beautiful cars look at my movie of mine

  • @chrsirian Hey, Chrsirian! I checked it out! Cool car...one of a kind! Thanks! :) Jack

  • have one in my shop right now.

  • @247THESHOP Cool! Nice to see one being worked on...I bet they are in short supply! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Of course it's a '68 Imperial. The 1967 was very different and the '69 even more different.

  • @lasuvidaboy Hey, Bruce..if nothing else, the Nader eyes give it away. :) Jack

  • Beautiful, just fucking beautiful! I remember these cars and it was all about pampering it's occupants no matter the road, load or weather and the best part "Prestige In Ownership". Imagine back in the day washing this stately masterpiece in your driveway with Dino blasting on your 7 foot Magnavox, and your wife walking out with a couple of dry Martinis and a smile to tell you diner was almost done! Wow, this car just took me back to a better time and I enjoyed it. Thank you for the great video

  • @Mrphatbastard1 There is no doubt that cars made a statement about their owners that luxury cars just can't match, today. What was parked in the driveway or in the garage spoke volumes about the driver and family! This car said "First Class" ! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @Mrphatbastard1 You need to write a book. For a second, I was not only immersed, but hypnotized! A beautiful distraction.

  • @MrFritzy1 Thank you Sir, I'm just an opinionated guy that has a deep appreciation for old American cars and the products and lifestyles surrounding them. I grew up amongst the rubber floored, no radio, three on the tree with a six cylinder set so to see an automobile like an Imperial or Lincoln was almost like sex! It saddens me that youth today will never experience ownership of such fine products and the lifestyle they produce. Thank you for the great comment!

  • That 60 I bought is a nice car it has 37,000 original miles and is a rust free New Mexico car. I was able to buy it cheap because the car was hit hard by a drunk driver right in the drivers front fender/front door area while parked in front of the garage it had been stored in since 1976! I fought off a guy who wanted it as a parts car and had one of the finest collision shops in the country repair the damage using NOS parts. Would you like photo's?

  • @BKB1044 I'm glad you were able to save it as an intact car! I'm figuring it's a unit body car, and repairs to a car this big are certainly tricky...glad you found a great shop! I'll message you my email..sure, would like to see!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • I do like your video's very much I have a eclectic interest in cars similar to yours I own a 62 Galaxie, a 66 Imperial, a 60 Dart Pioneer, a 64 New Yorker, and 65 Comet take care!

  • @BKB1044 Thanks for the compliment! You sure do have a varied fleet! My favorite would be the Dodge Pioneer! :) Jack

  • right on the year wrong about the engine this would have had a 440 4bbl A727 torqueflite standard

  • @BKB1044 You are right on both counts...I don' t know where I got 400 c.i....the didn't make that displacement engine...must by age catching up with me. Thanks! : Jack

  • Everything was really nice until I saw the aftermarket exhaust pipes:)Looks like they rumble loud. U put those on Chargers or Roadrunners not Imperials!

  • @rockerdriver I understand what you are saying, but it is not my car....I'm just an innocent recorder of cars! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 No I knew it wasn't yours just wanted to get my point across. Beautiful car otherwise! Thanks for agreeing with me:)

  • @rockerdriver Yeah, I agree that when you do make mods to a car, they should fit the overall nature of the car...a spoiler for a sporty car would certainly look amiss on the Imperial! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Same desighner for the Lincolns went over to Imperial in the mid 60's thats is why you see simulairitys.

  • @yumyumsashimi That explains a lot! Modern parallel is the designer who designed the retro cruisers from Mopar and Chevy. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Nice looking car.

  • @Seattlecarnut Thanks, Jason! It in my opinion has more than a passing resemblance to the squarish Lincoln Continental of the day...not unusual for successful designs to find many homes! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Jack, Imperials of this era suffered in comparison to Cadillac and Lincoln, not because of features or performance, but, in my opinion, styling. The Imperial too closely resembled it's lesser Chrysler New Yorker stablemate. Although there were familiar styling cues, Lincoln was rarely confused with Mercury or Cadillac with Buick. Chrysler's model designations for Imperial, Crown and LeBaron, did little to help; did you see them anywhere on this car? Did you mean this would have a 440?

  • @jferg7159 Hey, Joe! I will agree with you there...the styling details were a bit outrageous at times. Chrysler didn't seem to know what to do with the car..a separate division for it seemed to be over the top..it's appearance suggested an upscale Chrysler rather than another actual car make. Didn't see Crown of LeBaron on the car...just Imperial. Thanks! :) Jack

  • I have always liked Imps. Lovely car. Too bad they really didn't gear up to compete more with Cadillac and Lincoln. Maybe you saw my video on a '57 Imperial with the famous faux spare tire cover mounted on the trunklid. Spectacular luxury car. Thanks Jack.

  • @55lincoln Hey, Warren! Yeah, they never seemed to have the following of Cadillac and Lincoln. I checked your great video..it is really instructive to compare the two cars...you have visual proof of how much more restrained this model is...the fins had had their day! Thanks! :) Jack

  • My Newport rode like you were sitting the living room, I bet this one does the same. Great car Jack;-)

  • @1DRock37167 Hey, Daryl! Yeah..the seats themselves were like couches...and that famous torsion bar ride was very comfortable! And as a bonus, you didn't feel claustrophobic in these cars!! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Jay Leno has one like that. He bought it from a movie producer. It even came with factory original replacement parts!

  • @jammer96 Hey, Chris! I should have known....I think Jay has a weakness for these land yachts...he has that 55 or 56 Roadmaster that he updated! Trust him to find a car with replacement parts thrown in! Thanks! :) Jack

  • A very nice car, Jack, I bet there were lots of these parked outside a lot of Embassies back in the late 60's & early 70's !

I don't suppose you filmed that Monaco that was parked in front of this Imperial by any chance, Jack ? :)

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! Yeah, these would be the cars to have..very official looking!

President Eisenhower had an earlier model of the Imperial...I remember seeing it at Imperial Palace car museum...how appropriate!! As a matter of fact, I did film the Monaco..it's a Blues Brothers recreation, and I should post it today! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Beautiful 68 Imperial. You don't see many of those land yachts anymore.

  • @monarch1957 So true! A vanishing breed! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Everything about that Imperial grill screams, "get out of my way".

  • @Lockemeister Hey, John! I sure would not want to be in its way..this car is BIG!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • Beautiful car. They were conservatively styled and boxy, but still much nicer looking and elegant than the bloated land barges that came out in 69.

  • @dodge09challenger Hey, Brian! I think there was some influence from the success of the Lincoln Continental of the time...it too was boxy and exuded class, so I think Chrysler wanted to follow a proven styling trend...I don't really know which came first in that though..it could be Lincoln was following somewhat boxy Chrysler products! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Whow, now that's a real car lol.

  • @mellowinPA Hey, Chris! Yeah, there's no denying it...plenty of metal, not so much plastic...no apologies for being BIG! Thanks! :) Jack

  • Wow!! Very few of these left, Jack!!! This is probably the first one I've seen in 10 years...

  • @Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! Glad I could bring it to you! Thanks! :) Jack

  • fantasic car jack, im starting to make some car show videos soon, could you please watch some of my video im not that good at making it no so wobbly lol, i am still getting used to holding a camara, lol. thanks jonathan

  • @zanjani13 Hey, Jon! Thanks for the comment! I checked the vids, and you are off to a good start. Just a suggestion..always be looking at the lcd screen to keep your target included....that will eliminate a lot of the random camera movement. And move the camera slowly...filming speeds up the movement, believe me. :) Jack

  • @raconter1 thank you very much jack for that very important filming techniques

i am very pleased thank you :)
