WHEN WILL MARTIAL ARTISTS LEARN THAT ALL KICKS ARE THE SAME NO MATTER WHAT THE STYLE OR COUNTRY OR ORIGIN OR SCHOOL?!? THE HUMAN BODY CAN ONLY MOVE IN LIMITED DIRECTIONS. WHAT IS A BACK KICK IN ONE STYLE IS A MULE KICK IN ANOTHER...IT'S THE SAME KICK. NAMES ARE SOMETIMES CHANGED BUT NOT THE TECHNIQUE. THROWS, TAKE-DOWNS, ARM-LOCKS, ARM-BARS ARE MOSTLY THE SAME WHETHER JUDO, HAPKIDO, AIKIDO OR JUIJITSU. SOMETIMES SCHOOLS IN THE SAME COUNTRY CHANGE KATAS OR POOMSE TO SIGNIFY THEIR SCHOOL.
@Durkie52 Not true. The delivery of the knee varies, although it should always be the same in kicks. Straight line roundhouses are better than round ones.
I was taught that this Hap Ki Do is not the same as the Hap Ki Do under the Ho Shin Do Federation. I notice many of the kicks in this Hap Ki Do look more like kicks from karate. Meanwhile, the kicks taught to me are all mostly straight-leg kicks. I also notice our system of self-defense is similar in some aspects, but very different in others. So now I ask you, is Hap Ki Do just a name?
one of my favorite arts to watch, i did have the privledge of training in a version of it when i was starting in the arts. i beat the heck out of that mat with all parts of my body. a great system and lots of fond memories. respect...
"True Hapkido" is Korean Aikijujutsu. What is your opinion of "true Hapkido"? I realize I am asking for an opinion. Be careful what you say. There are allot of Hapkido and Aikido people alike monitoring this Hapkido Channel. I am wondering what history says "true Hapkido" is? Rooted from Daito-Ryu-aikijujutsu just like Aikido its brother art. So you see where the simularities come from. Hapkido is about break things and kill people, Aikido is about not killing the attacker.
i'm not trying to diss this video or say that they ain't good at what they do, but what i dont get is this.. when the attacker lunges he stops and goes with it, in real life an attacker would hold on to clothes or try and drag their arm away, or go in a clench not just forward roll on the floor
These are students just learning the basics, Before you can block real punches you need to learn the technique. I started slow and easy like this. Now every time I go in the dojo its full contact. No holding back. If I don't use the technique and feel the other fighter i'll leave with at best being bloody. You gotta start somewhere. You can't start out with full speed.
In Japan or even Korea, when we first learn the Aiki arts, you start with big circles much like you start to learn how to write or draw with bigger characters. Then...as you get older and more control, the circles get smaller and the attacks get more realistic.
This video that was posted looks of two student practicing to create balance and harmony within thenmself so to learn how to use the attackers physical energy against them. remamber these exact technique were used on the battelfields of Asia for many centuries. They do work, but it takes itme to learn. Western culture is "instant and disposable".
@yoshimonsoon It takes time for the techniques to become second nature and require no thought to do. The techniques themselves don't actually take to long to learn. Principle takes time to be ingrained.
@yoshimonsoon Dumb, better to learn perfect technique from the start. Gee, I think that I will learn boxing, I hope they start by showing me a "beginners hook" which is first taught as a wild, swinging roundhouse punch.
@tickyul SO IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO HIGH DIVE YOU JUST WANT TO GET ON A BOARD 100' UP? IF YOU WANT TO LEARN SKYDIVING YOU DON'T WANT TO LEARN HOW TO FALL CORRECTLY FIRST? IT'S DONE IN STEPS FOR A REASON...IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REASON THEN YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO WHITE BELT AND START OVER. NO DISRESPECT.
that's EXACTLY what I mean - you have to pratice REALISTICALLY if you want to be good - NO ONE punches like this attacker - SLOW and TELEGRAPHICALLY - most Asian martial arts is like this - JeetKuneDo is NOT - the attacker tries to take your head off.
That is correct. I beleiver you like to misunderstand martial arts. It is for physical combat. Not for competition as the hapkiyoosool mentioned. AMerican martial arts are NOT the same as Asian, western people have a different mind then we do. The attacker is trying to kill you, not box you or shoot fight you for points. If you want to roll around on the battlefield with all your military gear on so his army member can stab you? I call you out. GO visit this school and try them out. You'll see.
Firstly, those are only students, not masters. Secondly, those are training excercises to increase balance and hand/eye corrdination. Thirdly, When has anyone ever mugged someone with boxing or done boxing on the battelfield? When you commit to an attack, that is when it works. Just to educate all those who would follow such silly comments and belive that people mug you with boxing. If you haven't expereinced trianing like this in real time, you will never truley understand. Thank you.
You're on the right track... Aikido has a lot of moves that 'throw' the opponent away; in Hapkido, whatever the opponent touches you with is yours and you hold on to it like it was yours. He puts a hand on you, you grab that hand and not let go.
The thing about elegance is it either comes from people who have mastered the technique they are doing (and are very relaxed doing it), or it's not being done against a realistic attacker.
@BlackLabelEric lol if they would have done it realstic they would only be able to do it once since Hapkido breaks your attackers arm in 3 places if you do it in realistic speed haha. you are one stupid dude
Choi Yung Sool probably didn't get the footwork down in Aiki-jujutsu (predecessor to Aikido) because they wore Hakamas; which blocked the footwork from vision... that's one of the theories.
I didn't mean it that way, exactly. I meant it more to the respect that... Take Taekwondo for instance, footwork tells alot and can telegraph your next move... The hakama is not to pretend legs don't exist, but to disguise where your point of manipulation is headed... My opinion only, any input is appreciated.
These are the same exact techniques ive been learning in my Aikido class. It is my understanding that the founder of Aikido and Hapkido were master level students in Diato Ryu Aikijutsu and learned under the same master instructor. Training in both arts would definitly make an individual very well rounded in self defense.
WOW! I just stumbbled on this video and this is exactaly like the Aikijujutsu I studied in Japan! I am moving there too if I can. Where are they in Fl? Does anyone know? I have not found an Aikijujtustu school in the US that trains like this. I am excited! Someone give me a job in Florida!
Hi how ya doin' if you're really serious this school is located in Hollywood, FL I trained this art and have known the master since 2001 as for Aiki JuJutsu I trained that when I joined the military and now where I am stationed, Okinawa, Japan. They are the same art from different aspects one from a korean aspect and one froma Japaneese aspect. Of course Aiki JuJutsu did come first.
if you know aikido, you gonna love hapkido.

@Durkie52 You are absolutely right. It is done in steps. Otherwise, everyone would be broken and unable to practice ANY martial art.

i think Koreans are smart enough to realize that feet don't mysteriously disappear under a magic hakama. my guess is it's a stylistic choice.
