aahhh! every time I see these videos I cringe when it hits the ground... why do people drop these magnets? 1. they seem expensive (especially when you have that many) 2. magnets, when experience shock get damaged and can eventually wear out because of it... These people seem like reasonably smart people too...
@WatchdogDisciple theyre rare magnets... you play with them for a while and then what? they sit there until you get bored with something else? its about 40$ for 216 of the magnets and he has probably like 216 sets there. thats an assload of money
@Junpeiisl33t just remember not to drop them like this idiot did. dropping magnets demagnetizes them and you'll just end up with $1039.35 worth of plain metal balls. if you don't abuse them then they'll be totally worth it.
@q123477 now that's a new myth. no magnet is invulnerable to demagnetization and i don't think you know how it works. when something is magnetized the atomic domains in the it are all aligned in the same direction. when you drop a magnet some of the domains become misaligned and when enough domains become misaligned it's no longer a magnet. how many domains jostle loose is based on how much shock is put on it and the even the best magnet in the world will demagnetize if you drop it hard enough.
@system16 actually it just makes them lose their magnet pull a little bit but if you swipe them across a bar magnet in one direction a couple time they will get stronger than they were before
epic

Shock and vibration do not affect modern magnet materials, unless impact sufficient to physically damage the material.

@ishouldplayzelda these are neodymium, they are permanent rare Earth magnets that never lose strength.

@system16 is that true for only magnetized pieces of metal, or is it also true for natural magnets like lode stone?
peanutmaster1231 1 year ago
@system16 In this case, not like you would think. That is one of the differences between Rare Earth Magnets and all other forms of magnets.
