The Vocal Band has never had a good bass singer. David Phelps and Guy Penrod have been the best the VB has had. And I'm sure Lee Young is nice, but he might be a worse bass singer than Bill Gaither. Think if they would have Tim Rilley, Big Chief, or J.D. Sumner, now that would have been an awsome group.
Johnathan Pierce has his own decorating co. somewhere in Tenn. I think. Rumors fly that he may be gay. Doesn't matter. God still made him. He is still a great singer. Also, I think Terry Franklin was unable to make it.
What will the world do when Bill is gone? He has been so much of my life all through my teenage years, the VB and then the homecoming songs. The christian world will never be the same.
que se puede decir, sino que este es el encuentro soñado de cualquier cuertetero y de cualquiera que aprecie a los buenos cantantes para Cristo. Ojala algun dia tengamos el privilegio de verlos a todos juntos en al tierra nueva.
Lee Young sang with the GVB from 1981 to 1982. He was the first Bass singer. That was when the group was called "The New Gaither Vocal Band" They recorded one album by the same name. I think it was Steve Green and Gary McSpadden and Bill that were the first 4.
Yes you are correct I believe. Lee Young was followed by bass singer John Morh (blue Hawaian shirt). After John left the group Bill stepped into the bass part.
Thank you very much... I guess Bill was singing baritone, after all that's what he is... I understand him perfectly, but it's God's decision what our limits are, he doesn't share talent and voice equally. Praise the Lord !
Bill has amazing range, yes he's a baritone but he can hit some pretty low notes. What he brings is the ability to harmonize and add a little bottom. I do wish they'd bring a real bass into the group. When they sing with SSQ Tim shows him up bad.
Bill may be a natural baritone bu he is a pretty awesome bass to me! e gets really low in the Happy Goodmans 50 years video "When God's Chariot Comes" Hoover, do u have that??
In this even Lee Young isn't very deep. I've been singing bass for years and appreciate bass singers greatly. I'm partial to basso profundos the really deep ones.
I agree, he has those interventions, I am very sorry for the Gaitehrs, Bill could get with his money really low bass singers, there still are in world people who take incredibely low notes, a sub-contra-bass, like user Doublebassmint here on youtube would make a great deal with the Gaithers... if you understand me... JD passed away, but the Gaithers could go even futher with a 4 Hz bass singer... what do you say about that?
One thing we forget is that it's the answering of Gods call that brings theese men out to sing. I hope Bill brings more bass singers to his videos, Mike Allen and Tim Duncan do a great job, but when Bill first started he had ten of the most amazing basses in the industry. J>D, George, Tim Riely, Ray Dean Reese, Brockk Speer, Rex Nelon to name a few....
yah... Gene McDomand used to sing with them... wonder where he is... Doug Young... Statesmen, see on Give the world a smile... they were a large group of people there singing bass.... Bill can hire them, it goes on contracts, of course for praising the Lord.

It isn't the deepness of the bass that counts. A bass fiddle is deeper than a Stradivarius, but which has better sound?
I had to look this person up on google today to find out his name. What a voice. Too bad Bill can't get him back. He gave me goose bumps.

Rex Nelon was a bass. Just look up "Up Above My Head." He's one of the basses on one of the encores.
