The reson why Shawn was asked to remove his account was because he VIOLATED A FEDERAL LAW, not because he's a christian. There are several christians here on YouTube that have EARNED the respect of the atheist community for being, kind, tolerant, respectful, open minded and believers in free speech. Well from a law student's perspective, like say mine, no this wouldn't be laughed out of court. In fact, there is more then ample evidence to bring Shawn before a judge and to convict him of fraud as well as DMCA abuse charges and several others, depending on how hard someone wanted to make his life.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, he has filed over 200 DMCA's now. Plus all the other shit he has done in the past. I think he might actually face some jail time, like a couple of weeks. Depends if he gets himself of a "good christian judge"- I think he will plead some kind of distress etc to get out of it. If it was one or two DMCA notices then you are right, but 200 or more is just wreckless.

It was 30-40 around the time he closed his account but since then he has been issuing take down notices to everyone that even mentions his name. Around 200 now and counting. Nobody was hurt, but they have had their intellectual property taken down. He has no right to do that. It's the same as him walking into a shop and removing all the books. Each take down is a criminal offence. Times by 200! At that level he does face jail. Really.

Civil suite would be the avenue to pursue but that would involve hiring a lawyer in Toronto.

Jeez, even if a lawyer were to charge just $50 for a VFX False DMCA case (which VFX would eventually pay upon the outcome of the court ruling), they could make quite a profit from it for relatively little effort (especially after a nice apology video). He's screwed.

1. I don't think it's in the TOS that you can't download from youtube, but a screenshot isn't out of the question - also, he cross-posts on multiple sites, and this image wasn't pulled from youtube. :-)
