  • Guys and gals I know that you won't like me if I say this but what was Eric thinking! My local band have been forced (well not quite right), more coerced into learning some tunes on this Album. Let me get this straight I love Eric dearly. He has made some beautiful music over the years but he sure went of the rails with this one. It is just sad when he says that he actually wants to make an album so he can sound worse!!!!!! The low point in Ride the River. What were they thinking!!!!????

  • @thegreatbasher If you don't like the album/song, I can respect that, that's your opinion. But do you actually believe that Clapton consciously wanted to sound worse, and lied to himself and everyone else by saying he wanted to make this album?? Are you at all familiar with Clapton's solo career? EC worshipped the ground Cale walked on.... you damn well better believe that Clapton wanted to make this album.... whether it was good, is a different story.

  • which song is the one at the beginning?

  • clapton imitates cale?

  • Laid back and bored are two wildly different things. I guess the difference is invisible to some folks.

But taste is taste otherwise there would be only one band of underarm deodorant.

    Bloefeld

  • aa so bored any guys want to rescue me

  • @CutieaPamelaji737 olympiakara piraeus(j.j. cale were very good

  • @CutieaPamelaji737 j.j. cale were very good!!!

  • I don't think I know that guy Moody Walter. Is he any good? Maybe only if you catch him on a good day?

  • @MrTobytwirl It is Muddy Waters, he's a classic and an inspiration to a lot of modern blues players.

  • @MrTobytwirl

Sorry, I was being a bit facetious. It's a character flaw of mine.

  • There are some great musicians that for some strange reason live to be a legacy of influence to many other artists rather gaining fame on their own. J J is one of them. He is a true living legend. God bless him

  • Moonstone

  • I love how eric pronounces JAY JAY CAILE

  • Hello,

Please listen to my music vids, there is much more music to come very soon when im done recoding it. please stay tuned!

    Thanks and peace,

    Justin Boerema

  • Love it - and currently enraptured by the Klondike Pete and the Huskies videos and albums.

  • JJ Cale Rules !!

  • Cá estão eles. Os melhores

  • I love these to together and always have

  • I really love their music.

    Thank you for upload!

  • if clapton wants to sound more like Cale he'll have to spend some time in Tulsa! :)

  • The unsung hero. Wonderful - any JJ fan should check out Klondike Pete & the Huskies Bubba's Song" and "Winter fun by snakehips" for more amazing laidback brilliance. Great stuff.

  • @ironmanboy he's not a hack. he is kind of a special case. usually there are people who kind of feed off of other peoples' composed music, but in clapton's case, he takes that composed music and adds his amazing guitar work to it and makes it sound like something totally different then what it was. he also makes sure that people know that the music he plays is not his own but someone else's masterpiece.

  • Been playing clips of great blues men today and trying to figure out what makes them so good. Well, obviously pure talent - but what they all seem to have in common is an 'un-rushed' quality: they seem able to stretch time in ways that ordinary mortals cannot without feeling the need to fill in with twiddly bits - a difference highlighted here by the genius of Cale and the twiddling of Clapton.

  • cale seems like a cool guy. I always thought old guy musicians were cool.

  • Clapton is a hack! JJ is the original!!

  • claptons production sound always sucks

  • Please. All this guy and a lot of the Brits do (Stones, Animals) was recycle a bunch of early blues from Black artist and sell the sound to a bunch of white kids that were to stoned to know the difference. Listen to the originals just like they did!

  • @khj93play So, what they did was change the sound around, keeping the vocals the same, and conveying it to a different audience so they could enjoy the song as well? Gosh darn it, what a horrifying crime!

  • @khj93play Well, when you are talking about the blues there is really no such thing as "original". Looking back, when slaves were sold from one plantation to another, they brought along with them work songs that were then changed at the new plantation. Well, blues players were always listening to each other and mixing up verses and sections and just having fun. Jazz does the same thing too. American music is not about the "original", its about doing your own thing.

  • @jdmaniac820 I think you are missing my point . These English groups covered a bunch of Moody Waters, BB king material and countless other artist that "Wrote" and and "produced" their own material . Clapton, The Stones and the Animals just simply covered all that music pretty much the way the black artist did it. Some folks would rather hear it from the original creaters of the tunes.

  • @khj93play I know tons of people with your opinion and I think that's totally fine. I just want to say that Muddy Waters, Albert King, BB King, Howling Wolf, Buddy Guy and others have jammed and recorded with "copycats" such as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and most recently John Mayer. Just listen to BB King talk about John Mayer. They really admire each other. Times change, so do culture and language, and so does music. I don't think any is better or worse.

  • @khj93play Did you mean Muddy Waters? I've never heard of Moody Waters.

  • @fredmanwalking Yes! thanks for the correction.

  • @fredmanwalking Moody Waters....He's buddies with BB Kong.

  • @fleafarteasy right ! and they both hang out with slowhead

  • @wassily64 i know his brother shithead and his cousin dickhead and his sister giveme

  • why listen to this guy sing the blues. Listen to the real thing. BB King, Moody Waters etc...

  • WONDERFULL

  • Absolute legends!

  • I love this,there"re great!

  • love this!!!

  • The album is called The Road to Escondido

  • please can someone tell me the name of this album, thanks

  • I finally got this album for Christmas and I've just about worn it out. Fantastic for driving around leaving all the cares of the world behind.

  • Comment removed

  • what's the giutar Cale is on? the white one..

  • danelectro

  • a Danelectro, at least looks like one. Unless it's something really custom.

  • its a danelectro convertible

  • 2:32 I like the way Eric is just sitting there, relaxing with a little random song. =)

  • jj did some fuking fantastic songs.

  • They earned each other thankfuly.

  • Love them more individually - not so much together. I prefer JJ to sound like JJ and Clapton to sound like Clapton

  • I love them

  • this albumi is a mastermasterpiece, sooooo delicate.

  • so is the album released yet or are they just wishing anyone know?

  • the album is called The road to Escondido and was released in 2006

  • Thanks champ = )

  • I had that one and lost it, I want to buy again and can't find it, it's a great album btw.

  • nah, sorry.

    It just a bit disappointing.

  • You suck

  • I can't believe some people on here are actually under the belief that EC never wrote anything! In the late 50's, early 60's, blues arrived in the UK. The likes of Richards, Page, Beck and EC heard this sound and wanted to learn how to play like the masters. EC was a pioneer in taking blues and turning it into rock!

    Layla - EC

    Wonderful Tonight - EC

Sunshine of your love - EC

    Badge - EC

Tears in heaven (so you think his voice has no soul? - a song about the tragic death of his son)- EC

  • Just to set the record straight, although it's widely known, George Harrison wrote Badge and played the rhythm guitar parts on the recording. Clapton got a co-writing credit thanks to George.

  • And what about all the johnson song that clapton has opened in a blues-rock way?!

    What a fuck!

  • @theearlof87 yeah if people don't think eric clapton wrote songs then they are dumb, they wrote all of those songs and many more too.

  • my idols.inspired me to sing.check out gypwin

  • just went to the crossroad. robert johnston was there.

  • ...

  • lonelywan ....... I shit u ! Clapton's a God

  • shit you dude , eric clapton is great better from you , you are crazy

  • It's obvious that some people here are jealous of the fact that I'm in a kickass band. I advise you all stop leaving comments and use that time to practice instead. Then maybe some day you will be able to rock like we do.

  • Well, watch my Keyboard/Piano Videos,

and you'll know what rockin' the keys means. I recommend watching the velvet plastic vids.

    ~P~

  • haha lonely wan-ker :P

  • Description says "After years of admiring each others musical masterworks " that is hilarious!! Clapton has lusted after Cale's songs and sound for decades!! I guess I missed the "masterworks" that Clapton wrote!

  • "After years of admiring each others musical masterworks."???

Who are these old dudes anyway? Not very exciting compared to my band. Check out our new duo, "Ravine Street Boogie" for a lesson on how to really play.

  • How could you compare your anonymous shitty band with 2guys like that .....

i check for your duo and its even crappier than all american idol singing together ....

Digg a hole and bury you with your own self esteem

  • I listened. Pure shit. Know anything besides power chords? You both have an air about yourselves of thinking you're so much cooler than anyone else. Don't compare yourself to Eric Clapton, or even worse, the great J.J. Cale

  • that music is laughable. i actually laughed. i saw other comments aswell 'lmfao', 'lol', etc... get to fuck with your clap-bashing!

  • Well you say it so right!

You probalby missed the best of the genuine clapton lives and times!

Clapton anyway, HE took, and that was not an easy job , Mister lost and lonely Cale out of his nothingness to REAL LIFE!

  • Guess, you are a total ignorrant and arrogant prick. If you don't know any of Clapton's masterworks, you should check up "Slowhand" album, and then jump through the window. Enjoy ;*

  • Clapton is a good player, but his last best album was from the cradle. So he is not very innovative but he is a nice guy.

  • wow is it ok if I listen to ec ?? Some of you people are way toooo critical . music is supposed to be FUN .some of you guys want every thing in a cookie cutter style . it doesn,t work like that ,you can,t live in the past, only the future

  • True, JJ are trying to get him straighten up though.

  • very arrogant EGO centric guitarist, read his book and then pity on him, cause he needs that.KEEF forever ,who never talk about his problem like this capri shorts.

  • YES you hit the nail, clapton is nothing but a business man who play for adults his versions of great blues songs but sounds like night club available for V.i.P persons.his last great was ocean blvd and that was also cover album.not like other great british songwriters.narrowminds hero

  • but clapton NEEEEEVER write nothing

  • i dont fucking care if jj cale is the one who wrote cocaine, clapton's version is so much better, cale is godamn boring

  • i'd rate cale over clapton any day. At least Cale is original. Not regurgitated licks and ideas.

  • clapton is way better

  • Coool~!

  • Two legends. It is funny that Clapton says that he never have mastered sounding like JJ cale, because nobody can. B

  • EC also great!

  • EC is always great guitar player the best ever in my opinion

  • J.J. Cale and a Danelectro electro-acoustic guitar... (great man and nice guitar)

  • At 2:53 is Eric wearing a Judas Priest shirt?

  • That's called breaking the law

  • Eric's talking voice and singing voice are surprisingly different.

  • i think he should find his OWN voice and NOT try to sound "black" when he's doing Blues...that's what gets to me! But it's hard to criticise the man,...he's a great Bluesman.

  • Eric, Thanks for years of promoting and adding to JJ's music and talent. Both of you guys are true masters of you art. God Bless both of you!! (I beleive he already has)

  • thx for adding this on my birthday. lol

  • old enough to know...

  • how old is JJ now?

  • 69 years old

  • what mic is JJ cale used in this vid?

  • it is realy good

  • 2 legends getting together.

Don't get any better than this!

    Blues is my favorite genre.

    Indy

  • Thanks James for the share...that was very interesting!!! awesome 5*****

    dear greetings

  • Muy Bueno...Gracias por compartirlo...!!!!!

  • lol

  • lmao

  • ahaha

  • Hello, this is Lardass a.k.a StellaAtTheLocalCafe,CubanCheGuevara i and Dressea inviting you all to see my new vid: The Day Of My Birth

  • JJ Cale has been outstanding for decades, and this album with Eric is really good.

  • wow i never heard of jj cale but he's good.

  • Earth's greatest asset is its Art!!

  • The problem with the record is that Eric producers produced the album. So the JJ Cale like sound he wants to reach never happend.

JJ wrote most of the songs on the album, if JJ had produced it also. It had been fucking great. Now it wasnt. Its a shame.

  • for some reason i always think that eric clapton is american but hes not

  • How can any person be as sick as you are? What is it that fascinates you about my handicap? Do you understand that you are pathetic? Get psychiatric help NOW. If you're this bad at 14, think what a toilet your life will be later. Get over me for God's sake!

  • i swear man! jj sounds like forrest gump! haha

    Clapton and JJ are masters

  • Cuban (Lardass56) Your jealous, immature ranting against celebrity worship is rather hypocritical since you post gushing praise to John Lennon's videos repeatedly. The fact is, you are so full of shit you squeak. You don't believe anything you say. You are just a sad, jealous, angry, red-faced troll who hates herself so much she can't help but spread the filth. You only wish you were as famous as Clapton. What a loser you are.

  • whatre you talking about (CubanCheGuevara)? celebrity worship? i dont worship them. i admire them. theres a difference.

and i dont go for trash like the Spears girls.

  • *CubanCheGuevara* Shut the fuck up.PPL love these guys for there talent not the drugs they took. If what they did in the past bugs you then don't listen to the clips go home and beat off to Backstreet Boys or some christian rock you stupid dick

  • West: CubanCheGuevara is actually Lardass56. She's a nasty, fat, pimply little loser whose daddy touches her too much. If you ignore her, she'll go away

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA

    forreest gump rules!

  • eric clapton can still play that guitar.

    jj cale 2 .

  • Well said, Blanckfrack.

  • I was only 15 years old and went to the Cimmeron Ball room in Tulsa .. and

Johnny Cale and the Valentines would rock the place out... to bad a lot more people didnt get to be turned on by Tulsa Music

Gene Crose and the Rockets was an Ass kicker also... there are to mant Tulsa Cats to talk about.. the good ones left fot Las Angles.

  • you're still not over that "i'm 16 i hate my parents" phase? seek some therapy. fast. your need for attention has gotten you into "trolling" the internet for responses. i'm not feeding you. i'm just trying to see if i can get you to realize you have a problem and help you out. there are many places where you can get psychiatric help for free if you dont have the means. just please, dont do anything stupid. lord knows the world doesnt need any more "school shootings" by attention whores..

  • rcarballo: Lardass56 and threalblanckfrack are the SAME PERSON. She flames youtube constantly. If she says something so horrible no one will agree with her, she just posts with other names to do so. She is obsessed with ragging me for being in a wheelchair and a rabid racist. A real sick ticket.

  • Love these guys.

  • One of the best album ever made. Can't stop listening to it.

  • i liked the documentary. jj cale is one of the nicest mavericks ever. truly a master. as is clapton of course whom i love since i first heard him.

  • may peace for oll and for thin and a byutyful morning and joy!!!!

  • Why isn't the great albums name not in the comment: The road to escondido...good stuff

  • J. J. Cale's "After Midnight" on the Naturall album is one of the all-time greatest pieces of recorded music I have ever heard. It is haunting and ethereal and very souful. Check it out--listen to the original, it's from another world.

  • You are right. And definitely better that the more famous Clapton version. Actually the whole album is incredible and so are Okie and Troubadour.

  • Amen to that. I find it painful to think of how many millions of times the clapton version has been played on radio for years, when it could have been the pure, uber-cool, kicked-back, original by JJ. Even Clapton has admitted he wishes he could sound like Cale, but never has. Check out my interactions with the Clapton fans below if u want a good laugh. Cheers!

  • yeah, saw that. very funny. they don't know what they are talking about.

  • I don't even like this style of music, but JJ Cale speaks straight to my soul.

Downtown LA is my favorite song.Genius

  • Hello brothers of the electric guitar fraternity. Can I remind you of Cipollina, of Hooker'n Heat, of a series of Black Americans of the 50s and 60s, and so many others. How do we choose? I hope paradise is a place where I become gifted with the skill to play that great instrument.

  • I hear you! Lets not forget the jazz greats either. Montgomrey,Pass, Kessel,Green, Smith it goes on and on.

  • JJ Cale in the 70's was as about as cool as any white boy bluesman will ever get, truly soulful & beautiful. Sorry to all the Clapton worshippers but Eric has never come close & never will. If you ever get over E.C., check out Mississippi Fred Mcdowell to experience what real blues sounds like. You're welcome.

  • I've been listening to Mississippi Fred Mcdowell & Mississippi John Hurt and lots of straight delta blues for years and many other musicians. You can never be righteous and degrade slow hand like this I'm not an EC worshiper but he proved that he is a legend.

M Fred Mcdowell is cool and a true blues father but the man never got out of the box of delta blues and bone sliding, EC is universal, what EC did to the music is more than what Fred Mcdowell did for sure. :)

    Peace

  • If you're talking about universally popular music, then u r absolutely right. Eric Clapton is perhaps the most commercially successful guitarist in history. But even Clapton admits he'll never be able to sound as good as JJ Cale. And what MFM & countless other blues "fathers" "did" was simply create and play the blues better than anyone since.

  • Your right about JJ Cale & Mississippi Fred Mcdowell , but wrong about Eric C...He's right there with them. Although there are those of us who heard JJ's After midnight before Eric recorded it , but there are hundreds of thousands that would never have heard of these people if it wasn't for guys like Clapton. There is no competition - this is a meeting of spirits (past & present) Dig it and forget the politics. Peace

  • EC has turned on 100's of 1000's on to MFM? MFM & countless others r still unknown to the mainstream. If it wasn't for an old LP in my parents collection, I wouldn't have heard of him either. And of course it's not a competition, but after decades of fans declaring EC "God", in other words "the best", it gets on one's nerves when every single blues cover that I hear him do simply turns a passion-filled classic into souless boring elevator music. Need I list the examples?

  • 'Been waiting decades for this dream duo! The CD is Magnificient, one of the greatest collaborations ever, & infinitely worth the wait. Can't receive enough praise from REAL Blues, REAL guitar, & REAL music lovers. Absolutely Fabulous!

  • I have this cd 'The Road to Escondido'. Brilliant cd made by 2 of the best!

  • Ride The River... Ride The River... this is grammy material

  • how come noone has commented these wonderful people yet? hey every1, this album is awesome! thanks fast focus tv!
