@Uatemydoodle Actually it's not if you go back to some of the very first manga's by Kosaku Anakubo who wrote the "Pocket Monsters" series you would find that clefairy was indeed the intended starter pokemon of red. however the anime had disagreements on some of the original concepts the main character was changed to pikachu and red renamed to ash. I believe that the pocket monsters series still goes on today.
@NightcoreFTW hmm what you say sounds correct however if it is for pocket monsters and was changed for pokemon it doesn't really count. But i guess you could look at it being the first idea however not for pokemon.
