Yeah it will cost more to restore a muscle car and make em run even 12's, but there is much more satisfaction that comes from getting to that point after years of hard work.

  • an evo gets 28 miles to the gallon, is a nice ride, has 4 doors, and nice backseats, and is also cheap to insure, and with a bigger turbo will do well over 400hp. not to mention it knows it way around a trun, unlike any domestic I have ever driven.. expect for a corvette maybe.. but that $70,000

  • It's not intelligent, it just has a lot of forced induction. A guy down the street from me has a 400 block with a 350 crank (380 or something) in a '66 Chevelle that makes 650 hp with a single 4bbl carb, no nitrous, no f/a and that's easy to do. Dart block, 12:1 pistons, Victor Jr. heads, .600 cam, 2" headers, forged crank and rods, 1250cfm Dominator carb. We slapped it together and it made nearly 650hp and it will NEVER have any problems. A 4cyl pushing 650 hp will have problems down the road.

  • Thats would be a 383 setup and its a 350 block with a 400 crank. 650 hp is alot for that setup. Who did your machine work on your block and who did the tuning?

  • No machine work. It has a brand new Dart block, crand new heads, etc. We just put it together and gave it 36 degrees advance and haven't even touched the carb. The car weighs 3000 lbs, has a 4500 stall, 3 spd trans, ful manual VB, 4.10 gears etc.

  • Shit man I don't know. Look on craigslist in your city for a built motor that someone is selling. you can usually find a 300+ hp motor completer for $1000

  • that statement is just not accurate at all. because the way computer managed cars are today with a simple map change you can take it from 650whp to a less extreme daily driver map. also, a v8 has 4 more cylinders for something to go wrong with. my STi has been making 450whp for over 2 years now and i havent had a single issue with it. i drive it everyday to work like i did when it was stock. and i still get 25mpg. it all depends on how well it was built/quality of the parts.

  • My 04 STi makes 452whp and 461ftlbs at the wheels. im sure i could dig up the dyno sheets if your really that doubtful. it has a gt35 rotated mount turbo on it and a black APS front mount intercooler. it was tuned by a good friend of mine using opensource tuning (romraider/ecu flash) i drive it everyday to work and back. and if i keep it out of boost i GET 25mpg

  • That's true. Take a long wood plank and put it between to cinder blocks and try to break it. Now get a much shorter plank of the same thickness and try to do the same thing. That's why smaller engines can last so long with so much boost. People seem to get the idea that smaller engines are weaker when they're not always.

    had to get a qualifier in there. I was just explaining that people tend to think smaller engines are weaker when engines like the 2JZ can handle 1000HP while a Ford Modular has trouble going that high without extensive modifications that will cost you more in the long run, and possibly still be less reliable. Part of that has to do with the aluminum block, but you see what I'm getting at...

  • thats why a lot of people use the cobra blocks when they are panning high boost. they are cast iron, and stronger internals, im pretty sure the 2jz is too, thats why they are so heavy for being a 6cyl. Buying racing blocks really isn't that expensive some of the mustangs make close to 2000hp with Dart blocks etc. and high boost, ive read about mustangs using the mod engine and running 7-8sec in highly modded cars, but lets face it anything under a 10 sec time gets expensive regardless of the car
