  • YES! This is EXACTLY how a conductor should take Mozart's "molto allegro" in the 1st movement. Ton Koopman has brought us Mozart's 40th as it was meant to be heard.

Now to track down the rest of the symphony ...

  • Koopman has been my favorite since I was about 12 or 13. I remember not liking Mozart until about a year ago.... I was in the car and turned on the radio. The announcer said "And now.... some Mozart!" I thought "Oh great, I just might as well listen" I remember liking it. After they finished they said "And that was Ton Koopman with the A.B.O." It was the first time I actually liked Mozart. I could hear everything!!!! It was not romantic slush...

  • isn't it true that a conductor without the baton looks like a lunatic?

  • Well, it's beautifully transparent and versatile. But to me, the heart of Mozart's g-minor has to do with a crystalline sort of sadness. Koopman's interpretation is just too slender. This piece is not Mozart's expression of zest, is it.

  • @SachaFels I don't mean to be rude, I hope you understand that Koopman's not just a conductor/performer. He's a historian, like any good early keyboard player. I think he may have a slightly more expert interpretation based on several factors beside 'affekt'.

  • I confirm.... really orrible!!!

  • koopman è negato per la direzione d'orchestra. povero Mozart!

  • @goodmanmusica sei un impudente

  • mozart had just lost a kid he is deeply sad this movement captures the mood of the artist perfectly well bearing in mind that mozart never heard this work in his lifetime.

  • Why Baroque musicians think that ALL the music is baroque? I really don't understand. That is not Mozart!!!

  • @Boneggio And why is that?

  • @Boneggio You can't define something as a "baroque interpretation". And this is probably closer to the way Mozart heard it as well. Also, keep in mind Mozart's description of the light bow and how it is fundamental to pieces like this.

  • @Boneggio historically informed performance is much more sophisticated than "baroque" and "not baroque"

  • @Boneggio

    I agree, you don't understand.

  • Phantastisch!!!! Einfach Unglaublich Gut!!! Ton Koopman hat Mozart richtig verstanden!!! Incredible Orchestra and Ton Koopman a Great Musician, a great Conductor!!! Very Beautiful!!! Greetings from Mexico, thanks for sharing Abe Takawa!!!
