  • This is so cute,

  • This was fun, thanks.

  • Where'd you get the giggling sounds near the beginning?

  • @MikuMikuBeat they are sound bites from my Mac. Cute, eh?

  • Lovely. I like the soundtrack.

  • @FloorExercises thanks!

  • thanks for very good movie ... I really like it.

  • @fn200506 Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it. All the best in 2011!

  • Everytime I see ducks in action I feel like cheering.

    What a treat this is.

  • I found out - from someone who knows ducks - that these babies were probably only ONE DAY OLD when they made this journey! Makes it even more amazing doesn't it?!

  • Thanks

    Good movie

    Yours in Polish

  • It´s just INCREDIBLE the power of instinct!....

  • It was amazing to see the mother's response every time she came to another fence, and the babies kept following even though they must've been pretty tuckered out. There's a part in the film, after they cross the street, where they actually do stop for a few seconds - the camera work is abit blurry at this spot. I left it in the film because that's the only time they actually did stop & take a break - & I wanted it to be represented in real time. It lasted about three seconds!

  • Just had to watch it again. It gets better every time. Quack Quack xo

  • A most Beautiful Video ..gotta love those urban ducks : )

    Rocket

  • I wish I knew why she chose the place she did to lay her eggs, as it seems like such a daunting journey for those little ones. Could she have done it on purpose?

  • For my humble experience, I can tell you: she didn´t choose the pavement for ANYTHING When this disarrangements and troubles appear, i´m sorry to say, is when a HUMAN hand was on the way; ALWAYS.

She was probably getting back to the place she was taken away from. Or sth like that.

But the good news is that she, they, found another human hand.. but one of the goodies ;) that´s what i call GOOD DUCK ;)

  • "Good Duck" - good one! ; - )

  • This is so incredible!!!!

  • Thanks for your comment. I think the little ones were probably only four or five days old - they hadn't been on their feet for long. They sure kept up with her though - and I was amazed that she hardly ever looked to make sure they were following. I found out in my research later that they can see all around without turning their heads - so she knew where they were. She also knew where I was - and she must've known that I was there to help.

  • Oh my goodness...that is so incredible! And I didn't know they had peripheral vision like that! How interesting! :D Thanks again for sharing!!

  • Pefect for kids, very enjoyable and well put together.

  • Thanks BH! I've shown it to kids from age 2 to 97 and it brought laughter and smiles to all.

  • Loved it!! Reminds me of the McColskey book "Make way for Ducks!"

  • Thanks for your comments. I didn't know about Make Way for Ducks until a friend watched my video early on and mentioned it. My knowledge about mallards was pretty limited, actually, before I had this experience with them - and then I started researching.

  • Et moi aussi.Bises pour toi et ton mari, chere amie.

    David.

  • Well done! Very rich in meaning. Filming, writing, narration, and musical score all outstanding. Submitting for children's programming? You could also edit to 4-5 episodic shorts (as in Sesame Street). Wonderful!

  • Thanks! I was asked to be a Visiting Artist at a local public school - to show it to one group of kids - and by the end of the first showing, I'd been approached by 3 more teachers wanting to show it to their classes. Five different groups watched it that day, and what a joy to hear all of their questions and comments after each showing! My fave - "how did you know what they were saying to each other?"

  • Oh that is really delightful!

  • That was an amazing journey those Mallards were on. Their instincts got them to where they wanted to be. The Canadian scenery was beautiful. I would like to visit Canada someday. Especially after viewing this video. Well done.

  • Thanks for your comments! I truly couldn't believe my eyes, sometimes, as I witnessed their instincts in action! They were definitely on a mission. There were times when the Mother could have made a quick flight, but she knew the little ones couldn't follow her. I was in awe as I watched all those tiny feet moving so quickly to keep up with her!

  • coming back at you from my personal channel.

this is such a great storyline and I loved watching this the second time around. thank goodness there were no dogs on the loose.

    endless starz

  • Thanks - I've watched it so many times & it still brings a smile to my face! I had no clue where she'd take them - even though the Wetlands Conservation Area is within a mile - I had no idea how they'd get there. She kept sniffing the air, & then would choose a direction. I hoped that, eventually, as I followed them through people's back yards with my camera rolling, someone would come out & wonder what I was doing - and help! Thankfully two did - they stopped traffic, so I could keep filming!

  • beautiful footage of our Canadian wild life and a great story to go with it.

I was very entertained watching this.

    thanks ToneKats for sharing

    endless starz

  • Thanks - I'm so happy it finally uploaded properly, so I can share the joy of it with all of you!

  • This is a very nice video. There is something I don't understand, A duck doesn't lay all the eggs at once, but when they hatch they are all the same size and age. ? Puzzeling.

    Thank's!

  • Thanks Curt. After this experience I did some research on them - my curiosity had been piqued. They lay one egg a day, and then sit on them for 28 days. So I'm wondering - did the mother choose the place intentionally - or just happen to lay the first one there and then decide to keep going?

  • Belles images.

  • Merci Beaucoup!

  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful story!!

Tell Rockabillyotis I said hello. :)

I was expecting rockabilly when I saw his name as a sender but got something VERY diifferent :)

That video is too cool!! :) It is an early morning here and you already made my day :)

VERY well made and you very clearly put much time and effort into making this. Professional quality, including the background music and everything. I wish we had more videos like this in Youtube :)

    5 stars, no doubt!

  • Thank you so much for your comment, and your rating! Brings a smile to my heart hearing that it made your day! <3

  • nice jp

    i think u r on a mac

maybe have more than one duckling in the dialogue eg sibling rivalry

    good camera work

    pierre

  • Thanks Pierre. Yes, a Mac. (and yes, I'm never going back!) I had the footage 'in the can' for about a year before I finally got myself a Mac, and then got all the digital editing software I needed to do this. Then the learning curve was something else! But so much fun!! I love every part of the filmmaking process - I'm like a kid in a candy store!

  • Beautiful and delightful. So glad you were able to load this. Well done, JP. Amazing what will wander into your life if your mind is open.

    CJ

  • Thanks Craig. Indeed, amazing - and really no thinking involved at all - just being present in the moment, responding second by second!
