true but the T-72 sported a 125mm smooth bore cannon just like the t-80, t-84, and now t-90s. its about muzzle velocity not the size of the gun when your trying to kill tanks. but not only did the iraqi's have bad armor but im sure chinese and russian generals know how to use their tanks better than iraq. the german army used to havethe best tanks and they lost so its also how you employ your forces.

Also, maybe you live under a rock, but like every single country but USSR/Russia, the Iraqis used shitty export models, T-72M, that didn't even have composite armor, no decent systems of any kind, didn't even have real APFSDS rounds, just steel rounds with only half-charge at that. Do note that most of the ~several hundred destroyed tanks were T-55 or Type-69, and many were unmanned.

T-72M does not even compare to the T-72B, which even today is better than most every non-Russian tank.

@GoldenZealot21 ok but the point i was trying to make is that it matters more who is using the tanks than what model tank it is. if your betting on technology alone to win the day you'll surely be defeated. for example, american shermans tanks against panzer mk 4's, tigers, panthers, stug assault guns etc...who had the better vehicle? and who won the war? and the tiger's and panthers were supieror technologically to even the russin t-34/85 or JS-3 stalin's. but yeah i must live under a rock guy.

I's either an Arjun or a T-84 Oplot, or T-84 Yatagan *There's virtually no difference between the two 84s, the Yatagan is a export version sold by the Ukrainians to the Turkish Military

T-84s look like much bulkier T-80s with much larger turrets. they're cylindrical, but all the extra parts make them look square

strategy is different. soviets beat the nazis by numbers rather than quality. Ever since ww2, soviets believe massive numbers is the key. CHINA does the same.when it comes to tank design, soviet tanks meant to deep ford, and to out-surpress and out gun the western tanks. (125mm vs 120mm)

Well, the weight differences is all in the ARMOR.

M1A2 is not 70 tons, it's 68 tons.

The extra weight means M1A2 has more armor protection.

Not that I am saying T-90 is a bad tank. Just to point out that you shouldn't count the heavier weight on M1A2 as downside.

The M1A2 has a much larger internal (protected) volume than the T-90, almost 2 times more. T-90 has a greater internal volume to mass ratio. The Abrams would have to weigh around 85-90 metric tonnes to compare in armor weight. Don't forget that T-90M does have Relikt ERA, which is not only unbeatable by any NATO APFSDS, but can even through its advances and dual-layering defend against tandem-HEAT as well. Oh yeah, DU serves as bad armoring. But it's cheap, so throw it in M1

Well India has supposedly chosen it over T-90 but right now T-90 is stil their main battle tank. Arjun in my opinion is an ok tank but it would be wise to keept the T-90. There aren't that many Arjuns that have been built if thats what you mean.

T 90 fails to do well in hot rajasthan deserts...arjun uses moderate number of israeli systems and does well in hot climates...arjun was also tested with trophy active protection system...the Battle management system r quite similar to merkava...india used both russians and israelis technology...in my opinion it would b the best against any chinese technology...
