  • Hello, I agree with you but You shouldn't sign the paper. If I were you, I could not sign the paper. If the police arrests me for no reason. Police will be in a big SH*& day that he will be fired and lose to his pension which my mom's brother is the CHIEF OF POLICE. I am living in Toronto, ON Canada. He is the chief of Toronto Police. He can fire the police if Police has discrimination against me.

  • I agree, the police should be more sensitive to people with disabilities in genereal and the Deaf!! Deaf are not disabled!!!

  • I'm sorry, I went to the link you provided in the comments and could not find the transcript. ???

  • I'm a CODA and this happens a lot... I actually get out of tickets by pretending to be Deaf because in my state it is the LAW that a cop MUST allow for an interpreter and it's sometimes a long wait. (30min - 1hour.)

    If your mom went to court, and she told them that the cop didn't allow for an interpreter, and he couldn't show the video, she could have gotten out of that; I'm pretty sure. XD;

  • @1RavynSkye pretending to be deaf... scored a point but it won't be long before they test you for sign language.

  • Happy New Year 2011! on a deaf specific dating site Deafornot dot c om, it requires members to disclose their condition upfront

  • Every American has the right to be informed why they are being pulled over, and if officer fails to communicate this in clear language to that the person can understand(hence they have spanish translators) thus same applies to deaf. They cannot issue a citation. Thus it would in most cases be dismissed.

  • Bottom line if you went to court, and officer didnt show judge in most case will accept your admission and reduce or dismiss case. Most times officers wont show, and if they did, if you brought your witnesses often times burden of proof is estabalished and case dismissed. I however advocate for the deaf, and disabled people, thus alike fast foods they have those electronic devices for menu ordering I think police should have something simular. with built in translator.

  • Comment removed

  • I will say, I agree that the officer should have made effort to communicate by other means other than oral. Many of us today have pagers, cell phones or documents in the glove compartment. While reaching for the glove compartment immedaitely is not advicable, Once you have initaited visual with the officer and they see that you arent some vicious criminal, they should reasonate and allow you to locate paper or use pager or some sort of method to communicate. Officer was being irrational.

  • this unfortonatly is the tip of the iceberg . im not a secretary and dont type

  • The counselor on a deaf community Deafornot dot c om said that "People who may be defined as clinically deaf (unable to hear spoken language) may or may not be members of the Deaf community."

  • "The other day I made a stop and found both the driver and passenger to be deaf. This surprised me, as I didn't think a deaf person could get a driver's license. But the driver presented a driver's license and it came back as valid.""

This is not ignorance, this is stupidty.

Did the deaf population have this problem in the 30's & 40's?

    Has society gotten worse?

  • @MicahDan235 In the 30s and 40s a Deaf person might not have even been able to -get- a driver's license. Read "In This SIgn" by J. Greenberg. It is a novel based on her and her husband's experiences working with Deaf people at an employment agency. Hearing people have been very stupid about Deaf people and it's about time things changed.

  • One more thing-I am a little confused about the "refusal to sign" thing...see.....in our state (TX), signing the ticket is not "admission of guilt" at all but a "promise to appear in court." So, when you sign the ticket, it means you promise to appear in court at the assigned date. If you don't sign, you go to jail because not signing means "you won't promise to show up to court." Signing the ticket has nothing to do with guilt/innocence of the crime-that is what your court date is for.

  • I think people kept focusing on the speed limit and how your mom was "wrong" because you kept mentioning how she "wasn't really speeding-it wasn't a big deal." I agree that 29 in a 25 is not that big of a deal but speeding is speeding and a cop can write a ticket. However, I understand that wasn't your main point. The officer handled the whole thing pretty shitty and a "well-written letter" to his department regarding fair treatment of deaf should be sent.

  • Deafornot dot c om is an online community for deaf, ASL and hearing-impaired friends and singles!

Have fun with photos, message boards, chat, blog and more.

  • Hey, Not in OHIO. They dont give shit.

We can read if they write is what they know. I hate it here OHIO, our laws are too weak in here....

  • Sad sorry ... ;). Its a nice example of the sort of thing that society needs to deal with to help get along.

Another is the horn!!! The horn is often used as a safety warning from one driver to another. Sadly, a deafie can't hear. If a car flashed lights too that might help?

  • mom vs cop - cop may win but it is WRONG!!!! officers cannot think they are above the law. they are the law but they have to abide by it as well. honestly, just truthfully being honest to God, mom should have won because this is just so unfair.

  • Barb... i have a feeling nobody who is as close minded as the ones who have commented negatively towards your vlog can possibly understand the difficulties that many Deaf have had with officers of the law as well as the government. i am not Deaf but i am an interpreter student and many of my teachers, whom are Deaf, have told me many many stories about getting held at gunpoint, and all kinds of crazy stories simply because they prefer not to make an effort to communicate.

  • In other case, driving 29 mph in 25 mph zone is speeding by the law.

  • That is not the point of my vlog. It is not about whether she sped or not, it is about not having an equal access to communication. When will you get it?

  • @avbria I'm hearing and i agree with you. Cops should have a notepad with them all the time or other means of communication with the df or hoh.

  • @avbria I'm hearing and i agree with you. Cops should have a notepad with them all the time or other means of communication with the df or hoh.

  • @Capsule21 To let you know that 29 in 25 is fine but if you are going 30 in 25 then it not fine. What I know from the sheriff office they said if the car is going 4 MPH more than speed limt will be ok.

  • @Capsule21 You are really offensive. Do you understand that? By LAW the cop should have allowed for an interpreter, and the cop lied on the ticket. He gave her the ticket without allowing her equal communication rights and probably took advantage of her. He could have written legibly, but he DIDN'T... A lot people try to take advantage of Deaf people in such situations and the cop was being a dick.

  • First of all, my mom is not dumb. Secondly, not all Deaf persons have pen and pad ready. A police officer should be sensitive when it comes to communicating with the Deaf. Besides, there are stories when Deaf drivers reaching out for a paper and pen in the glove compartment getting beat up or even shot prompting them thinking that they are to get a gun. My mom is entitled to have access to communication and for you to dismiss this is a shame.

  • @avbria acess to communications??? what are you even talking about??

  • @Derekinstpete who is blocking her access and how???

  • @Capsule21 your a pill and stupid pop a pill cause if u said that to my face im known for smashing mouths like yours sorry uncompassionate looser fuck u and the cops mother fucker

  • @Capsule21

you should be shame yourself do u know that most cops don't know nothing about deaf people anad u call us dumb??? well i wish u see for yourself if u were deaf like us and u see how hard that deaf people try to talk to cops and no matter what u should we want equal as same hearing people and that i am hard hearing and i can do anything and we deaf people do anything and you should shame yourself!

  • Just go to Part II and you will understand more...they didnt even provide an interpreter for my mom at court, get it? What is wrong with you? Can you read?

  • True but this officer refused to use it...interpreters are not to be expected immediately on the road, you are right however if you go to part II, the interpreter was not even provided for this Deaf Americans but immigrants so what do you make out of that? Besides this happened a bit more than a year ago not eons so it is not exactly ancient history.

  • well, Avbria ... This is part of the facts and non-facts Deaf People had a power to understand or not understand so it nothing being perfect in this entire world... Hey, it's natural human being that create Deaf people the way it is and etc. Have to understand one thing Hearing people had no way to understand one thing about Deaf Culture. You will know until you figure these thing out. Have a good evening...

  • True but we are talking about the law and Deaf people's right ya know? It shouldn't be messed up with and that every Deaf individual should have equal communcation access like anyone else. Thanks for your comment.

  • WAT? u make no sence ..please reread wat u just said..lol

  • What happened to your mom is awful. The constitution allows you the right to know what you are being charged with, even for a ticket. It doesn't say except for deaf people at the bottom. She has the right to be explained to her exactly what is going on and shouldnt be expected to guess because they are too lazy to accomidate her. Not right.

  • It is not what happened to me by the way. I am explaining what happened to my mom. Well, in case you didn't get what I said, I explained that the cop even refused to write what he said. Also did you know that it is a law to provide interpreters for the Deaf? Her rights were violated, simple as that. No one should tolerate the guessing game.

  • Does it really matter what, if anything, your mother could have communicated to the officer? In most cases, people make it worse by letting the officer know what they think happened. Just take the citation and state the case in court. The officer may have been rude, but it doesn't mean he wasn't right.

  • I am sorry but i don't understand is there somewhere i can read the story, i know ASL, but am not so fast at it.

  • I'm deaf myself and have been learning ASL for two years now. After watching this video, I am so grateful that my mother raised me orally, so I wouldn't get into situations like this one, since Deaf people seem to rely on ASL interpreters all the time.

  • Well, my mother was raised orally, too. It doesn't make any difference for her though. If the cop was more considerate to communicate by speaking a bit slower or writing on a paper, it would be a totally different situation. When being faced in situations like this, anyone can become nervous or something as it can led to misunderstanding.

  • When it comes to dealing with a law especially in court, there is no way any Deaf people, oralists or not, understand everything which is why ASL interpreters should be requested.

  • Did your mother have two ID card? One for driven license and one for hearing impanel ID? Police will shut by hearing impanel ID. That help so lots

  • No, we are not required to have HI id card for heaven's sake! A driver's license would suffice!

  • Sucks for your mom. :( I saw Part II; unfortunately I didn't understand quite enough, but I hope it turned out well.

Still, you may be being a bit harsh on the cops in that particular police forum. Yes, there was some ignorance, but overall, they were just wondering if the deaf could drive and what problems they might encounter. Personally, I'd prefer people ask questions (however "dumb" these questions may seem)instead of making assumptions.

BTW, you look very pretty in Part II. :)

  • I am just explaining what happened based on what my mother told me. She requested for a pen/paper and he simply refused. She requested for an interpreter and he again refused. How is he supposed to communicate with my mother? This is not an excuse for ignorance as it is just based on common sense!

Number two, it is not about whether if the Deaf can drive, jeez! FYI, all Deaf people are allowed to drive as long as they pass the test.

  • I understand. I should have mentioned that I am deaf too. _Of course_ we can drive... ;) ...also, I'm not trying to defend the particular cop your mother had to deal with. He was a jerk. I was referring to the policemen in the forum you posted. Even if they displayed a bit of ignorance (which really can't be helped, as you can't know what you've never been told), most of them recommended just having a notepad and pen handy, and being a bit more patient with deaf drivers.

  • By the way, statistics show that they are better drivers than hearing people.

Finally, I like how you close by stating that it is always good to ask questions than making assumptions. Also the last statement :-)

  • Because there less. But on a ratio basis, no.

  • Hey i am taking Asl for my language in highschool(pretty amazing) befor i toke this class to be truthfully honest i didnt not get it ya i understood the whole meaning of "deaf" but to me it was nothing more! know that the deaf community has a backround like american or hispanics i have much more respect for them. i am so glad that i am taking it for my 2 language credits into collage!!

  • I have a very close Deaf friend. Its sadly true that some take advantage of them. I was checking info on pay. its the same. But for ask her if she can read lips Come On not all deaf caan read lips. Like can hearing understand this sign sorry poorly made let me know ok peace ... sign word : \_|__| ?

if you know tell me if not i will tel you . That cop she saw was an Idiot. Sorry to hear that from signing. :( ga sksk. As for me my ASL is grade 4-6. at best. But as 2nd langauge :)

  • btw where is the sound ? this video sux

  • This is the language for the Deaf, duh!

  • ok i belevie you but that dont explains there is no sound in that video, this is discriminating normal people !

  • your the same idiot who made the same comment in another asl video. and are you implying that Deaf people are not normal?? trying learning a little sign, you might actually enjoy yourself.

  • Go back to mexico

  • Well, it is just interesting that hearing Spanish peole get to have interpreters in the courtroom while Deaf Americans couldn't even get one!

  • I have a question. I am studying sign, this video is good. About half way through this video, after you discuss Nevada Law, you bring your first fingers from shoulders to center, like a sideways 'need' sign coming together. WHAT IS THAT SIGN? I cannot find it, figure it, even try to learn that one no where. Help?

  • it's the sign for spanish (language). She was comparing how nevada has interpreters on call for spanish speaking people and so they should have them for deaf individuals as well.

  • Thank you! I learn so much from watching videos and to have a stumper like that one stop me is frustrating...appreciate you taking the time to reply!

  • It means Mexico, or Spanish depending on the context. Here I believe it's Mexico.

  • Good on you for speaking out against police abuse. Seems the wrath of the law is spreading like wildfire. I suggest you folks learn Common Law & put a stop to this.

  • I have many Deaf friends who have shared their experiences with the law. Many of them (cops) will be unwilling to provide an interpreter and I've heard many say they don't believe Deaf people should be driving. Makes me sick to my stomach how discriminating they can be.

  • Hi. I am hard of hearing and vision impaired. Back in 1997 at night in Minnesota. I was riding my bike home and a squad car was trying to tell me to stop. but I couldnt hear a thing. Went though a red light. and cop turn on his over head lights. So I stop and wait for cop and he is rude. I told him i cant hear please write. he wouldnt. and decides to yell. Made me feel stupid. I had no idea what he is saying. police are stupid and cocky. I think they can do things better than that!

  • I've had something similar like that happen to a friend of mine, getting pulled over and the officer wouldn't provide any effort of communications..He knew me from somewhere and knew that I'm hard of hearing but also knows that I cannot interpret..I do not lip-read that well..I was with my friend..He literally yelled at me to tell my friend what he said. I refused, for two reasons...Yelling at me, and NOT making any effort to communicate properly.

    Pisses me off!

great ASL by the way. =)

  • Wow I'm so jealous. I have taken sign for 3 years and I understood most of it, but it was a bit difficult for me. I definitely could not read the fingerspelling that fast though. I need to work on that, especially seeing as im applying for Gallaudet :-p

  • Boo!

  • Funny question! Thanks for making me laugh!

  • i learned sign language like the letters but im going to try to learn the full words i saw some letters in there but she was going to fast i only know how to do it slow but im starting to go a litte faster.

  • Is this a complaint about being pulled by a cop who didn`t know she, the driver was deaf ?

  • Not really...it is about no effort made in enhancing communication relations between my mother and the cop since he rejected the idea to write what he said since there was no interpreters provided.

  • if shes deaf means sht cant hear rite..?so lol why is she not talking

  • if u cant here u wouldent be able to here what other ppl are saying to you and you wouldent be able to talk good look it up on youtube. =\

  • thas my point..if she cant hear but can talk was point of it?>

  • Funny, I am talking with sign language so guess it didnt occur to you that way.

  • im saying wtf the point if u can use ure mouth to talk..

  • But imagine trying to speak when you can't hear your own voice, or learning to speak when you can't hear anyone else's.

  • Talk vs. use of speech are totally different things :-)

  • if u couldent hear you wouldent be able to sound out silibles and words you would talk verry loud or verry soft because u wouldent be able to here your self talk.

  • This video should have had subtitles, not being rude, I just don't know sign language.

  • This is intended for signing audience but non signers are welcome to read the transcript. Do you see many subtitles in other videos for the Deaf? I think not.

  • Ok, if it's for the deaf only then it should not have appeared in the reccomended videos for the day on accounts of people who are not deaf, then I would never have come here. I thought that it was attempting to spread awareness of issues with the deaf to a wider audience and as such would have subtitles. I didn't know it was only to discuss within the deaf community (and as such should have been filtered from me).

  • Excuse me? It is a free server and I do whatever I wish as long as I follow the guidelines. You are not forced to come here as you can quickly close my vlog when you realize you know zip about sign language and move on! Don't you know that there is a Deaf community video group if you check around. Not all of us are eager to spread awareness since it is a tiring job (imagine doing it over and over) and for once let us discuss topics what we like to share with each other.

  • one more thing if you have read deaf in the tag, then you would or should know that it is for the deaf and/or by the deaf. Providing subtitles is very time consuming and it doesn't make my vlogging experience fun so the best I could do is to provide a summary or a transcript so please give me a break!

  • All the other videos should have sign language and cut out the audio, not being rude, but it's just wasting deaf people's computer power.

  • Deaf people should not have a sound card at all then because just having a sound card would be the waste of power. Putting the sound card into D3 and turning it off can help to save some power, however sending audio to a computer that has sound disabled or off would not consume a measureable amount of power; so remove the sound card or disable and turn off the speakers if you want to save power.

  • I dont even use sound when compressing my video so the audio card is already off. Why are you worrying too much? You are not even paying for it.

  • The only thing that you could argue is the bandwidth of sending the larger streaming codec with the audio encoded. On the software side though once it receives the audio an audio codec could just bitbucket it completely and never decompress to save CPU resources.

But again, we have already established on this thread that this video is deaf only and I should never have come here, youtube screwed up by not putting on the correct segragation.

  • That is what I do...unfortunately not all Deaf people know or understand about this technology part.

  • your mom iz hawt@!

  • shee looks like a gangster making all those hand signs lol

  • wow!! i want your mom to be my friend.

    she is so cool!!

    run for president, mom!!

you got it all going on!!

when i'm rich... i'll ask her, and family, out for brunch.

  • NO DUR ITS CALLED THE COP AND THE LAW jesus christ man...

  • 0:24 shes doing the motion of jacking off a small penis!

  • Where's the transcript? I followed the link, but couldn't find a transcript there.

  • I don't read sign langauge but your mom is really cool to watch and she convinced me she shouldn't have gotten a ticket. Rock on mom!

  • GIANT BOTTEM LIP

  • i looked at the comments and don't have much to say about the vid but the comments were strictly from crettons with retarded moms

  • If this had subtitles or a voiceover it would be eaiser to understand for people who dont know how 2 sign.

  • 92 thousand viewers - how many do you think were in the deaf community? Agreed.

  • Totoish - What do you mean what an asshole? I have watched this twice to from start to finish and she NEVER shows her browneye. Kind of a tease if you ask me cause she acts like she's going to. She's just playing the coy and quiet type thinking guys will dig it. I got no time for games like that...

  • While this is great, it doesn't reach many people.

  • So how could you explain over 100,000 viewers watching this video and having over 800 subscribers? I do reach a lot of people and try my best to make my videos accessible by providing summaries/transcripts. Not many people understand Deaf signers and you would be surprised how many are curious about us and wanted to learn about Deaf culture. I am here to share :-)

  • there are just no words for people like you. thank you for being dead weight on Planet Earth. I really appreciate you keeping the world in orbit.

  • Are you talking to me?

  • lol, no, I was talking to some asshole. I'm not that rude--I respect your mom and definitely think she shouldn't have gotten a ticket.

  • Do you understand sign language? If not, then butt out! Playing the coy? What? I am just speaking my language and if you don't like it then leave. There is no tease, sheesh! Take ASL course and you will understand.

  • but she probably could spell, BTW it's 'write' not 'right'.

  • she is the god of charades

  • She's a hottie! Perfect girl too cause she can't say no ;)

  • wow, what an asshole.

  • Watch me saying this...NO! So guess I ain't too perfect after all!

  • man, i'm just learning basic ASL, and this is WAY over my head, i think i understood one word.. car. and mabye a few letters she started spelling out. :(

i was like, if i watch as many ASL lessons on youtube i can learn.. but this totally just put my feelings down:( i guess i should get into a class.. :(

just random comment don't mind me.

    ~hector

  • Cool, just keep it up like you would when learning any language. I know how it feels since it goes the same when trying to learn Spanish. One of the secrets to maintain your skills is to interact and practice the language with people who use them :-)

  • hello? most of us are not dear nor do I know more than how to sign happy. some sound would be nice. lack of it is not making me connect anymore than it helps.

  • Ahh, that is my first language and how I communicate other than spoken English so you are always welcome to learn ASL. Have fun!

  • Actually, your solution might be ideally logical, but not realistically. Realistically people (including people who work the system) are not reliable. My mom had a problem communicating with a cop and did what you stated the poster's mother should have done. The interpreter didn't show and the cop got away with throwing a ticket at her for swerving to avoid hitting a guy speeding between lanes.Idealistically the interpreter would have showed up and court hearings wouldn't play favorites with cops

  • Anyhoo, the point being that no-win situations happen and it looks like the story of the blogger might have been one of them. Sometimes things can't be helped and pinning the blame on her mom with a "should have done" probably wasn't too helpful. Sorry for the long comment. >_>

  • Okay, they "should" know. They have lots of things they need to know, so if one cop said "I didn't know you could do that" - anything more than a personal flaw? How many times at work do you say "I didn't know that" and it was something you "should" have known. People have this idea that cops are supposed to be perfect and anything lacking is the WORST thing ever.

Right, but a young person listening to loud music can get ticketed because it's impairing their ability to hear emerg vehicles.

  • If that's the argument then they need to learn every lang used in their area? That is completely ridiculous. I agree that communication is key. But how is it the cop's responsibility to learn every lange so he can talk to everyone he pulls over?

His first priority is safety. Their safety first, and then everyone else's. People don't help that when they start acting freaky or suspicious.

I think there needs to be a BASIC English requirement to drive. Just enough to communicate even a little bit

  • that looks cool

  • Oh lovely it's another ignorant youTube user with unresolved mommy-issues he feels he needs to take out on vBloggers.

    Oh Joy...what a treat...

  • Wow Gargezet, you're just everything wrong with the world wrapped into one little ignorant package aren't you?

So why don't you "Shut the fuck up". Douchebag.

  • Whew, you are obviously behind! It is a language for the Deaf not gang signs. It is called American Sign Language and it has been around here since the 19th Century or possibly earlier.

  • I think they were being sarcastic :P

  • 1# most people do hear emergency vehicles or else they would never pull over or attempt to get out the way.

2# moving around means you could be getting your papers ready(if ur junky) so a pistol in the face is a bit much. its not a carjacking

  • Exactly! It is a catch 22 thing! Thank you for your insightful comments.

  • #1 Tell that to every super loud stereo player on the road - plus it's rare you can tell where the sound is comming from until you see the ambulance anyway.

#2 Who pays attention to a horns anymore? The only time they are used is to flip people off or tell someone to hurry up in traffic. You have obviously never been pulled over or very rarely - if you are in a bad neighborhood a cop will aproach your car - gun drawn - if you are shuffling things around.

    Inform yourself - THEN comment.

  • #1. Where do you live? I hear emergency services vechiles a long way anywhere from 10-25 seconds before I see them off in the distance.

#2 If people do not pay attention to horns, that's an individual issue. You can't just say "Well people don't listen to them so lets ignore the issue". If that were the case, cars wouldn't have horns because nobody listens to them. And yes, depending on where you live, being pulled over it never a happy one. That's why you do your best to ensure their safety.

  • well in the south someone blowing their horn is completely different than in the city. i would think if they no longer had uses car dealers would save their money and not use them you. its only logical. and fortunately i live near roswell,ga. the safest place in america, but i was born in and lived in brooklyn. 2 different types of cops. u must live in the city and if not u really are just talkin(typing.)

  • Why is it insulting that a cop didn't know deaf people could get a lic? Okay, he didn't know, now he does. It makes sense as to why he would think that, doesn't it?

Driving can be very dangerous and it essential that all drivers are aware and have all their senses alert.

It has nothing to do with hate against deaf people. It is a concern for the public safety. Nobody should be insulted by THAT.

  • My topic isn't about that! The cop did not question anything about Deaf people getting a license. Safety? Deaf drivers make excellent drivers and statistic shows that. Please read the transcript and make sure that you are getting it right. The whole point is that no effort is made by the cop to communicate with my mother.

  • No, I understand what your main point was. I was responding to the last sentance in your description. That's great if stats show that, the cop didn't know so....?

And I do agree that it was not fair for him to make no effort. On the other hand, I think if your mom is deaf, she knows this; she should be carrying a notepad and pen with her whenever she goes out in public and doesn't have an interpreter with her. If shehad that, then he couldn't have refused it. I agree that that it was unfair.

  • You should get her a card.. like a business card that says "I am deaf, please give me a second to write on my notepad". Or something. I'm sure she could use it more than trying to tell a cop. If she goes to the supermarket or... anywhere else in public. She could leave one on her dashboard and have another one in her wallet/purse/pocket or anywhere else on hand.

It's just an idea so she could help herself more...

  • hahahahahahha 0:23

  • she couldve written, "I am deaf and I cannot read lips." Then the police officer mightve been able to communicate in that manner. I do not think its fair that the blame is just being put on the police officer. The idea of written communication couldve been thought of by both parties.

  • The cop already knows she is deaf, duh! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. The cop refused to write and do you call that fair? My mother doesn't have a paper and pen and asked the cop for one but he did not offer it and do you call that fair? It is just no excuse for this to happen.

  • honestly, i believe that deaf people should not be able to attain driver's licenses. This is because:

#1 - when emergency vehicles are behind them they will not notice until they look into the rear view mirror and notice the lights

#2 - in the case a situation where there could possibly an accident, the deaf driver will not be able to hear the car horn of the other driver(s).

And in regards to the communication issue. Why didn't the deaf driver write something down herself?

  • OMG! You must be living in Dark Ages! Sheesh, a lot of ignorancy on your part! Didn't you know that statistical report shows that Deaf are better drivers? We have eyes! There are so many hearing drivers out there who are not even paying attention on the road not to mention those who use the phone and should their driver's licenses be taken away as well?

  • i didn't quite get that

  • Ok when it comes to police, they no longer have our best interest at heart whether we are good people or not has nothing to do with law anymore. If a cop gets it in his head you are going downtown, thats it. No discussion, no rights, no freedom, no care, no justice, no respect, nothing. Its unfortunate its this way but I suppose everyone just takes it, nobody wants to cause any riffs. Believe me there is no such thing as innocent until proven guilty. Its guilty until paid in full!... :(

  • Hi Amanda...thanks..you certainly can post whatever you want to say about the incident. I have part two posted so you can see the results.

  • Well, yes and no. There was no interpreter provided in court and the fine was cut in half.

  • I agree with that part though; being denied an interpreter is illegal. It most definitely is unfair. And maybe this one cop was a jackass, I see no reason why they couldn't communicate via paper/pen. However, I think if this woman is deaf and goes out in public where she is expected to communicate, then she should be carrying a notepad and pen with her EVERYWHERE she goes.

If she had that, he wouldn't have a choice but to communicate through notes. Or at the very least, she could write to him.

  • chuckling..ok..thanks for the contribution of your thoughts. Ignorance is what makes it stupid.
