This is a great set of videos. I recently purchased the 550B and Dillon’s user guide DVD. Your videos make an excellent supplement to Dillon’s DVD. In some aspects of assembly, you do a better job than their DVD and the instruction manual that comes with the unit. (Example: You attach the operating handle and use that as the guide for where to place the cartridge collection bin bracket. That's much better than Dillon's "approximately one-eighth inch clearance" instructions.) Many thanks.
This video series is what I have been looking for. I am thinking of getting back to reloading (been 40 years ago with a RCBS Rockchucker) and was thinking about a 550. My fried down the street has one so I may bug him to show me how to use it also..
Great videos! Why did you pick a Dillon over a Hornady? You said your not convinced the Dillon is the best press, which progressive press would you say is the best? would you purchase a different model or manufacturer now? Thanks
I bought one of these RL 550 B presses, watched your excellent video, set mine up, making .45 rounds like a pro now. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. A+ you got it all, just one goof in your set up, but other than that perfecto! ( the goof is the failsafe rod for powder delivery. and I don't really know if it matters which way you put it in, but the instruction manual shows the assembly from the other side.)
Great video. Saved me a lot of time understanding all about reloading and finished now about a thousand .308 Win with the 550B. Had some problems in the beginning. I would suggest to use a case lube kit. If you don´t you will probably end up having a case getting stuck in a die.
Thanks for the video, bought 550 back in 1985, starting having problems with primer bar sticking and watching your video saw a primer track bearing which I didn't have. Just ordered one, hope it solves the problem. Would not have been aware of this part without your video, thanks
Well, uhm, let's see....maybe because it's part of the human spirit to use hands & arms for the purpose of self expression. It also has the effect of connecting with other "humans" the message that you're trying to convey.
Now don't confuse this action with a stoic robotic type of person that just stands there, speaking in a monotone voice, and boring the viewer/listener to death. ; )
Thanks for the video. I am thinking of getting the 550 B. I did not realize I would have to do assembly work. Without your video I would have been caught completely off guard when I saw all the loose parts.
Great video! Thanks. For anyone looking for a great reloading bench.... I just bought one at Harbor freight for under $200.00. Just google the site and use key word "Bench". Thanks again fo rthe informative video.
Thanks for this video series. I was already leaning towards the Dillon 550b, and after seeing your video that confirmed my choice.
You did an EXCELLENT job of showing the setup in an easy-to-understand presentation.
I've finally gotten all my components in, and all my reloading needs. I'll be building a reloading bench very soon (this weekend?) and setting up my reloader and getting started!
is the LEE LOAD MASTER PROGRESSIVE PRESS as good as the dillon 550b (operates the same way) the reason i ask is i can get one off craigslist for 150 bucks, wondering if its a good deal or not
Thanks a lot for all the effort you put into this series. Really took the hesitation out of the process for me.
I will pass on the link to this to my buddies.....and if any Dillion CEO's are watching this....HIRE THIS GUY!!!!!!! he just sold me on your product!!!
I just want to say "thanks" for making this video....it has really enlightened me. You have a unique ability to explain everything in easy to understand terms and are very thorough. This video series is golden!
What dies are compatible with the Dillon presses? I was thinking of starting to reload .303 British since its hard to find good FMJ rounds these days, and good surplus is getting impossible to find. I was thinking of Lee or RCBS dies but I'm new to reloading and am at a loss.
Lee dies are fine, as long as they have a standard thread it fits great in the dillon press. I actually have a set of 303 british Lee dies that I was going to use to load some for my brother in law. I use Lee dies for .44 mag on the dillon too, works just fine. IMO, not as good quality as Dillon dies, but you get what you pay for.
Really enjoyed your video. I just set up my reloading bench and I am waiting for the press. There are 2 sets of reloading video's on Youtube that have been so helpful and your is one of them. Thank you and you really inspired me to start reloading.
You make referance that some people think the 550b is the best. You then say "I'm not that convinced". I am looking for your input. Baiscaly what press is your best?
For me, it's a tie between the Dillon and the Hornady Lock n Load. I'm not sure any one press is "the best", like a lot of people claim Dillon is, more like they both have different strengths. Dillon has the history of being good, which is why I went with them for a press.
I've got both, I've had the Hornady LnL a long time but got the Dillon 550b later and feel the Dillon is a better machine. Seems to be a much smoother machine with less tweaking.
Wow, first of all thank you for the great video, My first time towards reloading, and I am great full you took your time towards helping the rest of us out

You should use a scale to measure what the dillon is producing. The scale itself is checked with known weights.
jamz8844 1 week ago
when you use the dillon, how do you find the powder to be measurement on the dillon have you ever did a check with another scale thanks.
