  • Belgium owns this sport really

  • @Gunshy132 you've never been to a criterium, have you?

  • So Cyclocross is like Mountain Biking using a RoadBike? cool!

  • dominate this with a mountain bike

  • cross is the fun version of road racing. instead of doped up riders and local pros hopped up on viagra the only thing dangerous in cross is when the spectators are handing out beers every lap. near the end its like dui cross. uber fun unless half way through you need to piss

  • I just started road racing, and was curious about cyclocross. Thanks for making this video! It looks really cool, I might try it out!

  • I wonder is an XC bike can do it faster...hmm...

  • @lerlo

Suspension usually isnt needed in a cross race. Consider it more weight to lug around and a way to zap efficiency. With that said, a rigid 29er with small tires can pretty competitive. Personally, I like the drop bars to tuck into on the flat sections.

You have to try it, it is way more fun than racing XC!(coming from a competitive XC racer)

  • Thanks for this. I might be planning my first cyclocross race very soon...

  • very nice summation.

  • Why would you use carbon 5-spoke mag wheels for cyclocross

  • @squiresuzuki

I'm going to assume that you didn't notice the beach cruiser.

  • THIS is cyclocross:

    watch?v=oekD4wPobiM

    (also watch part 2)

    :D

  • I need to get myself and my cyclocross bike to some of these events!!!

  • nothing looks more distracted and annoying.

  • nice bikes

  • Very cool!!! I wish we had something like this locally.

  • 0:22 effin sweet kiss outfit

  • 0:39 Is that the same goose from expert village?

  • Hmm..this looks like it could be fun!

  • It looks cool! i love any kind of 2 wheel pursuit

  • i dont really get this what is this sport

  • i live in the salem area just getting started in riding any ideas of trails, groups that are taking riders?

  • get mtb's damn it

  • or even BMX would be better

  • @MaderaiderRC

I cyclecross, mountain bike and road bike. You can have plenty of fun with all of them and they each have different things to offer.

  • most fun biking sport ever...and he's right - it's a bunch of crazy people :)

  • Really cool looking sport. Just got a bike that can be set up for cyclocross. Now just have to find a course in my area.

  • I can;t imagine doing jumps with drops, shit's intense.

I'll stick with my Yeti for anything off the pavement :P

  • i went to hell and it was full ,so i'm back here

  • thanks alot for making this video... it is a perfect video to show people who have no idea what cyclocross is

  • I had no idea what it was and this video explained everything and even gave some insight xD

  • @dbassboy94

    this isnt cyclocross either

  • I love that TDI in the background of the woman's interview. I love that chug a lug.

  • Nice work, sure wish they had cyclocross races in my state.

  • suit yourself you fat pig

  • haha!

  • Sounds like you run from challenge.

  • cyclocross carbon bike. best of both worlds

  • Thanks but i already bought the road bike already but i might try to turn my old road bike into a cyclocross or fixie.

  • i cant belive theyre jumping road bikes, i would still want like a bike with like semi knobby tires and suspension (with lock out)

  • Suspension isn't very useful in cross racing. Plus it makes the bike considerably heavier, and you end up carrying your bike quite a bit in a cross race. And they aren't true road bikes. The frame geometry is most similar to road bikes, and the tires are definitely skinnier than MTB tires, but they aren't your standard 23c road tire either. Most 'cross tires are minimum 28c.

  • okay so lets say i have an old school road bike, if i were to slap some beaded tires on there would that be good or would i be better off using my mountain bike?

  • @bikemaninasia

    Are you serious?

  • @koko56 very serious having ridden cross in europe and usa, I can say usa cross is a stroll in the park compared to cross over the other side of the water

  • @bikemaninasia

Yeah - but not exclusively. It depends where you race.

  • @bikemaninasia perhaps you picked some lame courses in the states mate, cause seems you're talking out yur arse!

  • @shaokem listen when you have done both you can comment but I can tell you that USA cross is limp compared to Europe hence the reason you pussy's never do well when you come across the water, but then again you guys are used to getting your arse kicked outside USA

  • @bikemaninasia Ooooo! You're an expert! I'm sorry, my bad... you must have been to every cross in the US. My apologies!

  • cyclocross is the midway point of mtnbiking and road cycling, just wanted 2 say that

  • ahaha drama.

bikers drive me crazy sometimes, it really draws some of the biggest a-holes... but i love biking to death.

and i really want to try cyclocross. i'm transitioning my road bike to be more cyclo-friendly, this video really helped me get an idea of the racing. great job!!

  • But you're talking about amateur cyclocross!!!

World class cyclocross is much harder and the bike's limitations are MUCH more strict

  • aaaaah this looks like so much fun! definitely going to want to hit that up in the future

  • Is it just funny because they're using road bikes and not mountain bikes?

  • The reason they are using road bikes is because of their light weight for when they need to run with the bike on there shoulders.

  • This video makes me happy I bought a cyclocross frame for my urban assault bike when I lived in San Francisco. Now I have to replace my slicks with traction tires because I live in Oregon and I want to do this. It looks like so much fun! Where do I sign up?

  • come to belgium, and let see what your made of

  • Spongeboob11223344, you are clueless!

  • im racing tomorrow

  • Anyway I can get a dvd? I want to start showing it at Mellow Johnnys.

  • i just completed my first race of one of these today and it is frikin hard

  • Excellent vid, I love it!

  • Nice video. Makes me want to try this.

  • Great video!

  • AWSOME VIDEO, CONGRATS!!!!

  • disc brakes..

  • ... work with narrow tires, spongebob

  • PISH ME TO THE LIMIT GRRRHHHH ;)

  • STFU spongebob and google "mountain bike".

And if you think MTB's riding is crappy, some with me for a loop so I can make you poop yourself, before, I ride every drop of energy you have out you, leaving a rode hard put away corpse where your body once was.

  • top level xc riders rides cx

    you maybe no...

  • @Spongebob11223344

    What is your point?

  • It's about 80 years older than mountain biking and in no way meant to represent mtb or be similar. Due to mountain bike components having originated from road components, there is still alot of cross compatibility, especially in the drivetrain. They use inexpensive (sometimes) mtb stuff because its more durable and works better in the crud than roadie stuff and easier to replace when it breaks and is worn out.

Cyclocross is a way for roadies to train in the offseason, it's not mtb... Idiot..

  • why always insulting with idiot and so on...? ^^

  • Yea seriously, why "Idiot"? You can comment back without being insulting.

  • @mattsavage People make a mistake thinking cyclocross is road riding on dirt. It isn't. Cyclocross is more akin to being asked to perform well on a less technical mtb trail riding on a road bike. If a cyclocrosser wants to improve their riding they should spend more time on single track with a mtb bike. Uncouple the horse from the 80's ideology that VO2 is the holy grail. Cyclo is not about maximal VO2 it is about power and interval training.

  • i would totally do whoever did the VOs on this.

  • Good job. Nice video! Great sport. I do alot of road riding and light offloading on my road bike mixed with running, and cross training. I see that here is where I belong! All of this time and I didn't know that.

  • wicked sick I love this

  • Great video and a really good advertisement for our sport!

  • GREAT VIDEO. TERRIFIC FILMING

    NANA

  • Grinding. Very cool.

  • Great job - liked the writing and pacing. The interviews captured the spirit of the event. Next time come a little earlier and catch the unicycles!

  • if i had any athleticism in my whole body, this video would make me want to do cyclocross, and not just because i was involved in filming this. haha. but seriously i like the addition of eric rutledge's narration at the end. eric taylor is an amazing editor. :)

  • Nice production

It give the desire to practice
