No, you can only install Linux cause only linux have distro compatible with Cell. I use my PS3 with xubuntu and uses like a normal computer.

Why does anyone do this. When you install Linux on your PS3, it installs it as a "Virtual Machine". When the PS3 does this it has locked setting on your CPU, Ram, Graphics Card, etc... So you are getting the power of a pentium 4 computer with 256 mb of ram, and a alright Nvidia Geforce 256mb. So there you have it folks installing another OS on your ps3 is like installing a OS on a 1990's machine.

Are you absolutely sure it's a .rar file? If you have WinRAR installed, .iso files will probably have the winrar icon.

If you downloaded it from a reliable source, it shold be fine. Hope this helps.

a hard drive is a hard drive no matter what size. I'd say give it a shot, 80 or 60 GB is more than enough space! Hope I could help

hey i followed everything just like he said but when i was formating the HD i had the option to format 4 different ways and i think i picked the wrong one. i think the right one is Fat32 so i've tried to re format it again and that option hasnt came up again.and when i try to install the OS is says No Appicaible installer was found can someone please help.

If i would you, I would pick Xubuntu (for ps3), only cause it has less use of RAM than the other os's, cause it's using Xfce instead of GNOME or KDE.

But Fedora is a good pick too, just somewhat slower, but it uses the 7 available cores on the ps3 on it's best for parralel processing.

I got xubuntu too, and I'm happy with it!

Oh and the alternate install cd uses a text-based installer. The Desktop version is a live cd. The alternate cd uses less RAM to install, so it'd probably be a better fit for the PS3.
