  • thank you for this, this is so awesome! I love it and the show,of course. Is it open for the public?

  • Nice footage. I've loved the show my whole life!

  • IV BEEN IN THAT MANTION. IT WAS SO COOL. THE ROOMS ARE SO BIG. EVERYTHING IN IT LOOKS SMALL. AN THAX............

  • @Ullyvonpiv where exactly is that mansion at? i always thought it would be great to go have a brandy with quentin! please let me know

  • Update now to the castle. It is a private home, and being restored. Ghost Hunters just did a show from there, and it was pretty interesting seeing the inside of the house for the first time. Since the tv show used a studio for the interior, and just the castle as the exterior.

  • i really like this old video. it take me back to that time.

  • Collinwood obviously employs Gallifreyan technology. It's smaller on the inside than on the outside. And you can walk through the front door, through a short hallway, across a small drawing room, and magically there are windows on the other side... with a view of the tower room across the way.

  • their only one place in the world. like this.

a place high above sea a place called collinwood.

i due have fond menories of collinwood.

    i due reminese.

  • outstanding old video. it take me back to that very time

i can forget it.collinwood. it part of me.

  • very very good.

  • That was really super. Thanks. I am doing a drawing of Collinwood. Your close-ups will help me see the big picture in detail.

  • Nice video footage of the house. I enjoyed the the show's opening and closing audio sequences serving as a framing device. One can imagine Victoria Winters stepping out for a quick trip to Collinsport. It's very clear to see that the ivy growth has been removed, as it was apparently a threat to the condition to the building's facade.

  • Had it not been a college dormitory, the house would've made a terrific bed and breakfast place.

  • Awesome, thx for posting!

  • best soap opera ever - imaginative, campy, mellow dramatic, great story line, ahead of it's time - all the ingredients needed for a winner. Never been another one like it. My mom used to watch this show religiously - after I got her hooked on it as a little girl.

  • I visited the house the real name for the house is seaveiw terrace the family all died out and left it for the Salve Regina University. I went to the house in a thurderstorm It was amazing!! and the student let me in to wander around but it was nothing like the show at all I also got to walk to widow hill on the cliffs at the ocean side I will never forget it the house that blew up in true lies movie is just down from this one and is the office for the campus.

  • awesome! Thanks for posting this. I watched the show religiously until it went off the air the first time.

  • I too rushed home from school to watch this...I pretended I did live @ Collinwood....I was such a freak!

  • were there any shots used from the inside of this house or was it all sets?

  • on the corner of Ruggles and Ocean

    Newport, Rhode Island

  • where is the mansion actually located

  • WOW!!!! What an amazing house! Just curious to how many rooms it has?

  • Get TAPS in there to check the place out! They're in Rhode Island! They might find Barnabas puttering around in there.

  • I think the Old House was in Tarrytown New York, on the property of the Mansion used in the movie Night of Dark Shadows. It burnt down. I may be mistaken, but I think I read this somewhere.

  • Does anyone know where the house is that they used for the "old house"?

  • If you weren't familiar with the show, you might think it looked like a state mental institute. LOL.

  • Great video, these takes are better than the ones in the show

  • WOW!!! Thanks for posting this. I also loved the show, ran home from school each day to watch it, also wanted to live there. So nice to know it is being restored. Yes, it would be perfect if Johnny Depp used it for the new movie. I can't wait as he will be perfect as Barnabas, maybe even better than Jonathan Frid.

  • We were just there in person two weeks ago. The Carey's who own it are wonderful people and are now in the process of restoring it. The Salve Regina school is now out. The inside of the mansion is wonderful!!! It's every bit as fabulous as the outside. One of the guys in our group knows the Carey's personally so we were able to explore "Collinwood" for a whole day. It's actually called "Seaview Terrace"

  • OK I know someone has probably brought this up already but being a fan of Dark Shadows I would like to know where this house is and if anyone still lives there.

  • What a shame, that big grassy area is perfect for horseshoes, been bags, volley ball, or a softball game. It wouldn't matter to me if it were mortals or immortals playing.

  • I watched the show as a kid I was very grown up and Mom and Dad left me at home in the summer I sometimes watched but was scared back then I wouldnt mind to see the estate pretty neat .......... I,am a little braver today anyone ever make a video tape of it at night no one still lives their ?

  • Thanks for this wonderful video, it's nice to know it's still around. What a shame about the Old House, I believe the place was deserted in reality too. "Collinsport" is still around, don't recall the name of the place until I get my books out again.

  • Since moving to CT I have been to Newport several times, and each time I make sure to spend some time walking around "Collinwood" and absorbing the energy of the place. Thanks for posting this!

  • Great video! I last saw the old girl in 1990, and it's nice to know she's still holding her own! Wouldn't it be great if Johnny Depp used it in the upcoming "Dark Shadows" movie?

  • Thanks and bless you so much for posting this--I ran home faster than anyone!

  • ahhhh! the house really is haunted!!!

  • check out 4:25 minutes into the video, and pause at the window...I don't know about ya'll but I swear there is someone looking out of that glass door!!!

  • I think I see something there. You're right.

  • Dude, did you really go there in person!?!

  • It's so good to know the 'big house' never changed through the years. I know 'the old house' burned down years ago.

  • Beautiful video! I love the zoom ins! Thanks for posting this~

  • Wow. Does this ever make me emotional. Is there any possibility of you making it an option to see this with the "Watch in high quality" option now available here on You Tube?

    Thank you so much.

  • could you give me the address or is it easy to find?

  • It's on the corner of Ruggles Ave & Wetmore Ave in Newport,RI..

  • I have family who live in Bristol, RI, a neighbor city to Newport. When we visied during Dark Shadows' run on the air, we used to drive by & saw the house. On a dark, stormy night when Narragansett Bay wsa rough seas, it looked just like the entrance, especially near the cliffs. We almost saw Barnabas behind every tree & bush. The poster who mentioned tours until Oct. was right and a lot of fans still visit, even though the show first aired 40 years ago. Great clip. Thanks!

  • The house is called Seaview Terrace. The Spratt(Old House) House burned down back in 1969.

  • The first voice over was the very first episode, the final voice over was the very last episode. I shot the video myself when I was in Newport a couple of weeks ago. The house is used as a dormitory for upperclassmen from Salve Regina University. To my knowledge the house is not open for tours. and I too wish I could live there!

  • it's located in newport rhode island. it is now a school for boys and they live there during the school year. it's also opened until october for tourism. alot of us dark shadows fans go there and visit.

  • Brian was this the real end of the series i know the voice is but not this vid!!!!

  • Wow I never knew this was actually a real house. Where is it located ? Thanks for posting ;-)

  • I WISH I COULD LIVE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
