I apologize humbly to you, for sounding like a prick. I too use mostly emulators, tho i do still have some retro machines set up. Just with emus you can change and enhance things, such as make pal games full screen, make games play faster or slower, turn of sprite to sprite and sprite to background collision. I use a usb modified zipstick (remember those) to play 1 button game consoles such as 2600,7800,Amiga etc, and an original xbox pad to play multi button games.I prefer retro to moder.Respec
@bazfanv2 Naw, your not a prick, it's cool. I came off a bit...abrupt also. I have 16 real consoles, some semi-rare (Bally Astrocade, Fairchild Channel F.) & 50+ emulators/100,000+ ROMs. I just like having ALL the games (TOSEC/Goodsets) to play. What's a "Zipstick"? For playing Atari 2600, C64, etc, I literally use a REAL Atari 2600 joystick, via USB "Stelladapter". I also have an X-Arcade Tankstick/2 joysticks, 20 buttons, & trackball in the center, it's used in homemade arcade cabinets.
@gjc82071 The Zipsticks like a competition pro, its the same one i used on my Amiga many years ago, I had it converted to USB. It makes playing emulators a bit more authentic. I have dedicated my external HD to retro gaming. I have the latest consoles, but they dont get as much use as my retro collection.
@bazfanv2 The authenticity factor is why I use the real Atari 2600 joystick, haha, so, I hear ya! I too have an external HD (500gig Seagate Passport) loaded with retro games. My latest console is a Sega Genesis. No X-box here, although I do like modern RTS War games on PC. We seem to have a bit in common, & you seem pretty cool. Hey, you ever try out Kaillera Client? It's supported by some emulators & allows for internet multi-play. There are a few classic games I would love to play PVP.
@gjc82071 I use Kaillera to play mame games (bubble bobble, final fight, sunset riders etc,etc and ive used it to play sensic soccer for megadrive. Not played in a while as it can be difficult to do PVP unless your a streetfighter or king of fighters addict. Im 36 from england, and im a big retro gamer. U seem pretty decent too.My external is a philips (matches pc) 500Gb.So yeah - seems we have a lot in common.
@bazfanv2 I'm 39yo from Niagara Falls, NY, USA. I've yet to use Kaillera, I just know of it's existence. So, your a "big" retro gamer, but I am a COLOSSAL retro gamer, hahaha *joke". But I do love them dearly. Got a few questions. Do you have Stella Atari 2600 emulator? If so, "Stella'dapter" get it? little USB adapter for Atari/C64 & I guess Zipsticks. Found it at Atariage.com. Are you @ all into any war/strategy games? I want to play Colonial Conquest for Commodore 64 SO BAD!
@bazfanv2 Hey, I wouldn't ask a stranger for their email address, or give them mine & all that, so if you want, why not send a comment through my youtube "inbox"? That why we get more then just 500 characters to write. I would play Bubble Bobble with you, or especially Final Fight & those "beat'em up" games. We could like "finish"/beat them. Play from start to end. I would like to know which consoles, games & emulators you have & like. Do you have MAME & MESS? & do you like War/Strategy?
@bazfanv2 Check out my channel. I NEVER use emulation if I don't have to. None of my game reviews done in the past few years have used emulation. When I did this video I only had a USB capture device and it didn't work with some of the older game consoles (even with a VCR to convert RF to composite) so I had to use emulation here. But it's not so much a game review as just looking at the console itself this just happens to show some games. I guess I shouldn't have compared so much to 2600.
@bazfanv2 Really, exactly "what" is the big "difference" between real vs emulation? I see no difference really (& yes I have real consoles AND emulators). They are as similar as the best Cubit Zirconia vs a real diamond. No "real" difference. Also, I like having literally EVERY single game, for EVERY console, rather than lugging out/hooking up my real consoles, for what is essentially, identical game play, especially with my USB Atari 2600 Stelladapter, using a "real" Atari 2600 joystick.
@bazfanv2 Know the difference in what way? In that 1 is a real, tangible, manufactured piece, of plastic & electronic gaming components, ie, a game console; As opposed to the other being just a PC "program" that duplicated CPU & functions, in order to play ROM images of games ? Or do you mean that there is an actual difference in not only game play, but audio & visual properties? I don't think more than 1 in 1,000 could tell the difference, & as far as "game play" I use a Stelladaptor.
@gjc82071 I apologize humbly to you, for sounding like a prick. I too use mostly emulators, tho i do still have some retro machines set up. The Atari 5200 came out shortly after the Intellivision, and totally smoked that system. The 5200 arcade games were SOOOO much better than anything else out at the time.
Great comparison. Even though i am IntellivisionDude, i will admit some games were better on the 2600. Centipede looks better on the Intellivision but the 2600 version plays better. I like both versions of Demon Attack. I'd say Burgertime is main example of Intellivision crushing the Atari version. A lot of the other games are like apples and oranges.
Well, to conclude, true, both the 2600 and the intellivision has its advantages & disadvantages. As far as the games that are on there, well, better graphics don't make a better game.
Hey Great video review. I know someone already mentioned Tron had multiple speeds that you could play at, disc for fastest. I thought it was worth reiterating. Also there was a computer component released which was different that the ultra rare one you showed. It had a plug in module on the side like the intellivoice. Lastly you can play every atari game on the INTV via the 'system changer' which accpeted atari carts!
Intellivision is WAY BETTER and has better controlers for most games ones you take a little time to get used to Intellivision games. Atari did not even take advantage of the paddle controllers or those special driving controllers that came with that Indy 500 cartridge for use in any of their other driving games, mainly the paddle controllers were only for all the Pong variations of their games and Break Out.
Intellivision had 3 action buttons or as some people called them back then Fire Buttons
I'd agree that it was an ambitious system BUT with two caveats. Many titles are TOO ambitious and need a much more powerful hardware setup to pull off (B-17 Bomber and most sports titles for example). Also the Colecovision and Atari 5200 completely eclipsed this system. The titles were unique and some are downright impressive, others have not aged well.
I agree with everything you said besides one thing. Tron Deadly Discs has different speeds to play. So if you don't choose the faster setting then yeah it will be slower then the 2600 version from the start. It is a common mistake people make when comparing the two. But as a guy that has owned the game since birth, I know these kind of things
Thats cool too. So far I prefer my Colcoevision above all, I don't have many good games for Intellivision. Maybe if I was more framiliar with the system, and had more, better games, I might like it more.
Some!?! Alright? You really did grow up after Atari's heyday! I still play many of my favorites on my Atari emulator and you can't beat the game play of many of the games. They shine in their simplicity. I'll take gameplay over graphics any day!
Oh, I got the real deal, too! I've got all of the original systems from back in the day. The really cool thing about emulators is that you can carry them around with you anywhere. I frequently wonder what the 13 year old version of myself would do if I could time-machine my laptop back 27 years. I'd have lost my mind!
Yeah, that would have been crazy, I don't really enjoy emulators, nothing is better than the real thing right! and besides, some games you need special controllers for, like star raiders, and that makes it even funner to play.
These games are now considered primitive by some people. I liked pole position in the arcade. Never have played a real intelevision. The Atari had some alright games. This is coming from someone that grew up during the SNES,NES,Sega and Playstation era of gaming, so i have been spoiled with those types of games. I am very open minded when it comes to trying new things!
i think you could of done a hell of a better job than that for your new intro poor as before, the music is the same as before lame, the video's are still as good as ever though.
The new intro runs really bad, no offense but use the original. Also its lit more, alot of your video's seem to be filmed at night which could be better if filmed in sunlight. Don't mean to crit (spelling) your vids. love your video's. They could really better lighting.

it was these "crappy" consoles that paved the way for next-gen and future consoles leading up to today's, they're classic and innovative.
and most of the games from generations 1-5 are usually far more better for gameplay than some of today's, and still really enjoyable
