I was fortunate enough to meet this guy and the rest of the guys in the mid 90's when they stayed at our hotel. i was a fan since the crossing. RIP Stuart, very greatly missed
probably one of the most underrated and under appreciated bands ever...they had a guitar sound that was truly unique and, unparalleled back in their time....the Edge and Johnny Marr seem to be the 2 "alternative" guitarist back in the 80's that got the most pub and they were and are quite good however, for my money, Stuart was a genius of a guitar player and, he and Bruce together created masterpieces of music...
i think there should be a statue erected in scotland. as stuart has so much influence over so many people accross the world i would gladly donate towards it.
He said so much in his music. I play a little but wish I was better I would love to play more of his music. Keep it up mate. May your dreams stay with you
I listened to Big Country since I was 12 and I'm now 18, so I guess I'm the next generation as my Dad went to see them in the 80's..I can guarantee that my generation won't let Stuart's legacy die. Stay alive.
Never got to see these guys LIVE .....so imagine my feelings when I found out last Thursday that they're playing four gigs in January with Mike Peters (The Alarm) singing with them. Thanks guys for bringing a dream of mine true. :-)
i dont believe ive listened to a band thats moved me more than BC does.
i found them when i was 16, regrettably about 4 years after Adamson's death, the first song i heard was "Save Me" from the 1990 album "through a big country" (at least thats what my media player says its from anyway) that song has stuck with me ever since.
im 22, first song by BC i heard was "Save Me" and the band has stuck in my head ever since, cant believe i didnt find them till 4 years after Adamson died ... its something im ashamed of.
i havnt listened to a band that moves me more than BC does.

I followed Big Country far and wide. Sorry but this is lift music! Get over yourselves, sycophantic fools. I am quite sure he would have loved to be known for passion and power not a lame dirge. My opinion only of course, which I should be allowed.
LOL, did someone once tell you were witty and you actually believed them??? feel free to come around and meet all my mates called Billy, nevermind the rest. Cogito ero sum. How many times you seem them live?
You are annoying and petty. I saw them from the beginning to the end. Shared drinks with him and Peter Adamson in Ayr (Scotland) By the way, he could not not take his drink too well. There is so much more but....................nah, enough said! Go away and grow up. Maybe play with your posters.
Stuart, ... is the reason I love music, the reason I picked up the acoustic guitar, the reason I create music, ... and the reason I believe. As I hope this video conveys. Among all the great accomplishments in his life, ... one was moving me enough to believe ...
I want to thank all of you ... each and every one. We have come together to remember and praise Stuart, and that's what this video was meant to do ... bring us together. I spent some time yesterday indulging in Big Country, and believe the epiphany I experienced should be shared. I felt the soul of Big Country in the song "one in a million" ... the ebow throughout the song and at the very end. Listen and tell me you aren't ... MOVED ...
The song title is "Fragile thing" from BC's last and arguably best album "driving to Damascus". Most bands fade away forgotten, lets hope another generation rediscovers this underappreciated band with unlimited talent. Stuart lives on in the music he left us. Let us all celebrate. Let the dream stay with you...

Thanks for all the memories and great times John Brebner

you're damn right. crazy fact is that i like big country nowadays more than i used to in the eighties. that has got nothing to do however with the passing of stuart.

He tragically ended his own life. Not sure exactly when, but probably almost ten years now... Ironically I have a signed copy of 'The Crossing' where Stuart signed 'stay alive' to me... So, so sad...
I didn't know Stuart was gone. Big Country without Stuart won't never be Big Country. I loved Big Country, but now Big Country is gone, Jesus Christ. But I say it was Nice knew Big Country and Stuart. Super weird, here in Rio we knew about the death of De Freitas, Joe Strummer, Michael Hutchence, Kurt Cobain, the retire of Bill Berry, the death of John Eintwistle, but nothing about Stuart Adamson. I'm so sad.

lol i remember BC live in Aberdeen & a fight started in the crowd between 2 estate rival gangs stuart stopped the gig & told them to go outside & kill each other he got a whole lot of respect from a lot of people that night & he played burns a man's a man for a that. rip son of scotland
How so very eloquently put; my my....you must be so bored as to be posting obscenities about absolutely nothing/no-one you know about; trying 4 a reaction; is that how u get your kicks?
Look, yeah i rised to the bait; your post made me fuckin' mad ok? Can you not just appreciate the music you're into and disregard[without a comment] anything you hate? There's tons of stuff i fuckin' hate...
Stuart was an ok human being; i know you disagree...but in what context? Ok, you prob hated the music....hate the fact that fans are posting here; but seriously..what is your gripe?
To answer your question. It's not that he hates, it's the fact that he can write whatever he pleases to upset you and have no repercussion on him. Anonymity is their strength. Ignorance is their downfall. so... ignore.
It's from on of the "Rarities" albums, I'll check which albums have the different versions. Te other version is more raw big country sounding, ... you will love them both!!
I often find myself wondering what Stuart, was thinking of when I watch this video, as it seems ... a very heartfelt video by him. Very moving. The guitar work, and his expressions. It's why I chose this to use as my tribute to him.
fantastic band, memorys of my chilhood, the skids and big country on the radioand and totp, pure class, what a sound, reccomend you watch the film restless natives-bc soundtrack and very very funny, all the best to all big counry fans everywhere, a 40yr old teenager again
It fills both my heart ... and I am sure Stuart's to be recognized and honoured by all of the remarks of praise and memories that have been posted. I am proud to have been a part of bringing all of us together to show our respect for Stuart. His legacy ... lives ...
I was an absolutely massive Big Country fan back when they started and was lucky enough to meet them on a few occasions. I must admit i started losing interest around 88-89 but how upset i was to hear Stuart had passed away made me realise what an impact he and the band had on me. I have started collecting their stuff again and im blown away at how good it is. I hadnt heard this song until today and its absolutely amazing. Fantastic songwriter and Fantastic band
Life is hard indeed; especially when you have a purpose to show us all. I hurt for the man who couldn't live his life as God intended. I miss Stuart Adamson greatly. See you in the WT.
Lovin this version. I'm 31 from dublin so i grew up with BC. My brother saw them on the same bill as U2 and Simple Minds in the 80s. Bastard! Thanks for the post.
betilii, the song is called "Fragile Thing", my favorite!! I have found a couple of versions of it, just Stuart, making slight variations in the song. Enjoy! Thanks, and much respect!
am a 21 year old guy who lives in Mauritius and i discovered big country on my own, i immediately fell in love with that band and Stuart Adamson voice and specially Watson's guitar.. thanx a lot for that vid man.. what the title??
WHAT CAN I SAY...Met Stuart in Glasgow in the Pavilion..RunRig were backing band.......then the guys backed up Runrig.........LIKE LIFE,,,FULL CICLE..GREAT POST E...THANX ........RIP STUART
Enough said, ... hope you like the vid, Stuart was and is the reason I play. Hope the vid conveys that. Check out the vid by "dellyboy34" and enjoy. Big Country is still the best
very good thanks mate. have u 2 thought about your favorite bands yet, just out of interest. i'm currently trying to upload a clip of bc playing steeltown live in berlin. look out for it. stuart jamming at the start as ace.
my remark was meant to be a reply to alfordway's comment... i clicked the reply button and expected it to be next to his comment... sorry for the confusion...
my dad found out the program for that concert and the ticket stubs yesterday i was well chuffed. just wondering what both your top 5 bands list is, mine is something like this.
Kevseabass, what cool parents you have taking you to see Big Country as a child, sound like really nice people, tell them from me that was a cool thing to do.
Delly, question mate, ... do you play, cause a bass is nothing without a singer ... drummer, or guitarist. Lemme know, cause at least we have the same taste in excellant music Cheers.
i think we should set up a Stuart Adamson appreciation society, if we ain't already have! Keep rockin' boys, it's good for the spirit. Exquisitly, go get that bass man, respect.
Kev and Delly, u are both becoming steadfast friends!! Yesterday I watched a few BC vids and I began to miss my bass, as Tony Butler is the best bass player ever. I am off tomorrow to buy one and re-light the flame. Thank you bot and Stuart, for the motavation. I would love tomake a mark as they have.
this might come out twice!! i got into big country when i was 6 and used to wear anything tartan and always wore checked shirts, i ain't scotish but for me it was like wear you football teams shirt. my parents took me to see them when i was 7 in shepton mallet in somerset. i've been hooked ever since. i listen to music every day and always fit a big country song in.
I had a jod about 8 or 9 years ago in an electronics company near Belfast ( I'm from Larne, Northern Ireland) and was sent to Dunfermline for 2 weeks training (stuart's hometown). There i met guys who grew up with him, played football/rode motorbikes with him etc. One guy said "Good defender that cunt!" in a friendly way. They all had a good word to say about him and the utmost respect for him. That was a nice experience. Kev where are ye lad, Speak soon boys.
sometimes (very rarely) you may here a big country song whilst out and about. i remember hearing porrohman being played loud from a passing car. i almost started running after it. most bands are liked because they are too popular, with big country the adoration is purely in the music and the band. you listen to it,take it in and make it yours, because you love it so much, not because it's popular and everyone else like it.
hello sir, long time, del

go and suck stu's dead dick, u fucking pillock.
HughPikey 4 years ago
How so very eloquently put; my my....you must be so bored as to be posting obscenities about absolutely nothing/no-one you know about; trying 4 a reaction; is that how u get your kicks?
Ah well; each to their own.
Oh, and it's Miss Pillock to u-ok?
tyeistops 4 years ago
you are the saddo who must be so bored to rise to the bait, then giving out little pep talks and lectures. where do you people come from?
HughPikey 4 years ago
Look, yeah i rised to the bait; your post made me fuckin' mad ok? Can you not just appreciate the music you're into and disregard[without a comment] anything you hate? There's tons of stuff i fuckin' hate...
Stuart was an ok human being; i know you disagree...but in what context? Ok, you prob hated the music....hate the fact that fans are posting here; but seriously..what is your gripe?
That he committed suicide? That he was loved?
tyeistops 4 years ago
To answer your question. It's not that he hates, it's the fact that he can write whatever he pleases to upset you and have no repercussion on him. Anonymity is their strength. Ignorance is their downfall. so... ignore.

I often find myself wondering what Stuart, was thinking of when I watch this video, as it seems ... a very heartfelt video by him. Very moving. The guitar work, and his expressions. It's why I chose this to use as my tribute to him.

Fantastic songwriter and Fantastic band

my dad found out the program for that concert and the ticket stubs yesterday i was well chuffed. just wondering what both your top 5 bands list is, mine is something like this.
number 1. big country (of course)
2. lynyrd skynyrd
3. Razorlight
4. Audioslave
5. ocean colour scene.
i play drums but i'm nothing compared to mark.
burkenbauer 5 years ago
Kevseabass, what cool parents you have taking you to see Big Country as a child, sound like really nice people, tell them from me that was a cool thing to do.
dellyboy34 5 years ago
Delly, question mate, ... do you play, cause a bass is nothing without a singer ... drummer, or guitarist. Lemme know, cause at least we have the same taste in excellant music Cheers.
exquistlyempty 5 years ago
i think we should set up a Stuart Adamson appreciation society, if we ain't already have! Keep rockin' boys, it's good for the spirit. Exquisitly, go get that bass man, respect.
dellyboy34 5 years ago
Kev and Delly we should all meet someday and toast Stuart. Turn up a mug for a great man, writer, musician ... and spirit.
exquistlyempty 5 years ago
Kev and Delly, u are both becoming steadfast friends!! Yesterday I watched a few BC vids and I began to miss my bass, as Tony Butler is the best bass player ever. I am off tomorrow to buy one and re-light the flame. Thank you bot and Stuart, for the motavation. I would love tomake a mark as they have.
exquistlyempty 5 years ago
this might come out twice!! i got into big country when i was 6 and used to wear anything tartan and always wore checked shirts, i ain't scotish but for me it was like wear you football teams shirt. my parents took me to see them when i was 7 in shepton mallet in somerset. i've been hooked ever since. i listen to music every day and always fit a big country song in.
kevseabass 5 years ago
I had a jod about 8 or 9 years ago in an electronics company near Belfast ( I'm from Larne, Northern Ireland) and was sent to Dunfermline for 2 weeks training (stuart's hometown). There i met guys who grew up with him, played football/rode motorbikes with him etc. One guy said "Good defender that cunt!" in a friendly way. They all had a good word to say about him and the utmost respect for him. That was a nice experience. Kev where are ye lad, Speak soon boys.
dellyboy34 5 years ago
sometimes (very rarely) you may here a big country song whilst out and about. i remember hearing porrohman being played loud from a passing car. i almost started running after it. most bands are liked because they are too popular, with big country the adoration is purely in the music and the band. you listen to it,take it in and make it yours, because you love it so much, not because it's popular and everyone else like it.
