Manfred von Richthoven was a genius of air-to-air combat that even the enemy greatly respected and feared him.
von Richthofen enjoyed hunting, even if the prey was other people. That part I don't like. BUT he personified the traits of loyalty and courage, two of the finer parts of human nature. Germans developed the parachute to go into the aircraft later in the war with the Fokker D.VII... sometimes they didn't work. One ace Erich Lowenhardt fell to his death after a midair collision.

they had no parachutes!!! i would have been terrified to have been in those battles
