When i think about American Gigolo now, i really have to laugh! In 1980 when this movie premiered, i was at the tender age of 17. Nobody knew before then that this film, with such a Controversial theme, would go on to do what it ended up doing; and that is, "Revolutionize" men's fashion, and not just in Hollywood! Richard Gere, who happens to be one of my favorite actors, really hit it out of the park with his "Styling&Profiling" and gave us an inside glimpse of a lifestyle that is very real!

Keep in mind that the only incurable STD known at the time of this movie (1980) was herpes. AIDS was unknown, until about 1984. It's all fun and games, until Mother Nature says "NO!"

I feel like this film foreshadowed the 80s, the sleek 80s like John Delorean and his car, Duran Duran, and shoulder pads. I also like the noir look the cinematographer gave it.

Saw this in the Theater back in 1980 and can honestly say it is Gere's finest performance. John Travolta was suppose to get this role but passed on it. Trivolta went on to also pass on an Officer and a Gentlemen. Both are great movies with Gere, but this one really shows Gere's raw talent.
