Loved this single from the album in Black and White and Colour I think I still have that Cheap Trick Tee Shirt, first one from a Rock band I ever had.
HEY MAN ALL I KNOW IS I SAW CHEAP TRICK WITH UFO AND GAMMA AT THE PROVIDENCE CIVIC CENTER IN 1982 OR 1980 AND I SAW CHEAP TRICK AT THE OCEAN STATE THEATRE IN 1982 OR 1980. I AM 47 YEARS OLD AND HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF CONCERTS, SORRY I CAN NOT REMEMBER EVERY YEAR I SAW A SHOW. AND I WILL NEVER CALL THE PROVIDENCE CIVIC CENTER WHERE I SAW ALL MY HEAVY METAL THRASH KICK ASS SHOWS FROM THE 80S,THE DUNKIN DONUTS CENTER. EVEN IF THAT IS THE NEW NAME. I SAW OZZY WITH RANDY RHOADS IN 1981 AT PPAC IN RI
its sad such a great generation of music is dying because of the lack of taste and indivdualism back then there were hundreds of good bands with great songs so much great diversity today its just rap that sounds all alike or rips off the old generation and wtf is with a jonas brother getting on the cover of rolling stone!?!?
I was at this show and remember there new slick jackets. Trying to remember if this was the show that Cheap Trick headlined with UFO and Gamma (with Ronnie Montrose)
@oozilchoo HEY MAN I THINK THIS SHOW WAS AT THE OCEAN STATE THEATRE, I WAS THERE I WAS 16 YEARS OLD. THE SHOW WITH UFO WHICH IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS AND GAMMA WAS AT THE PROVIDENCE CIVIC CENTER IN 1982 I THINK. I HAD FOURTH ROW CENTER THATS WHEN I WOULD GET TO THE PROVIDENCE CIVIC CENTER AT ONE OCLOCK IN THE MORNING TO GET A NUMBER FOR MY PLACE IN LINE UNTIL THE DOORS OPENED SO EVERYONE IN LINE COULD BUY THIE TICKETS. UFO WAS A LAST MINUTE ADD ON TO THE SHOW . PAUL CHAPMAN ON GUITAR.
DAMN I love this song. Hey ASSHOLES who run the SO CALLED "Rock & Roll hall of Fame". When is Cheap Trick going to get thier due?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who's it going to be next instead of Cheap Trick? ........ K-Fed. Pull your collective heads out of your ass! Cheap Trick is the Best!!!!!!
that's your opinion and I won't hold it against you, but you also have to think that they are admired by many musicians and they have 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records, placing them fourth behind the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Kiss for the most gold and platinum albums by a band in music history. so I think they've paid their dues and have desereved it.
CT has never used pre-recorded backing tracks. The closest they did was an on/off stage keyboard player in the late '80's early '90's. Leave the backing tracks to bands like the Crue or Leppard. No offense but CT doesn't need it.
These guys are incapable of sounding bad live. Seen 'em live nearly every year since '94.........spot on every show, every song. These old clips show they've always sounded killer!!!!!!!
Awesome. This band is beyond legendary. I was going to post the same thing as mikepo so I gave him a thumbs up. Tom's bass was amped to sound like a guitar at times.
No, that's not a guitar, that's Tom's distorted 12 string bass. Part of his setup sounds like a bass, part of it is also running through guitar amps, that's a big part of how they get such a full sound.
@mikepo Although there is probably some normal soft tube distortion, I wouldn't call his bass "distorted 12-string" per se. He runs a fairly clean tone, doesn't he? Anyway, you're spot-on, his huge 12-string chugging notes are what gives CT this full sound, even when Rick is playing all over the place. I always found the Tom bass solo to be really silly. He basically just tremelos a few notes and dances around. Not much you can articulate on 12-strings like that.

Fuckin A! could these guys dig in. The only 70's rock band that was punk-relevant. Huge fuckin sound!

This must have been right before Tom left the band for part of the eighties.

no kidding, Cheap Trick and RUSH are the 2 bands that haven't been put in yet, that really deserve it.
sgtpepper1138 2 years ago 2
With all due respect, Rush sucks!

plus they've been together for over 35 years without any member changes, even through Neil losing his wife and daughter (that's pretty messed up).
sgtpepper1138 2 years ago
Technically great musicians, but they bore me. Jerk off music. Geddy's voice drives me nuts, and their ethos is all wrong. Fly By Night Away From me!
rcknbkr403 2 years ago
really?
neither one of them are in?
...wow...
and hearing some of the "rock" that they do put in that is... just... "wow"

Why do I hear a guitar while Rick isn't even touching his?
Unabomber2 2 years ago
Yeah...I noticed that, right at the 1:28 mark. Maybe the tape was off a bit..out of sync, because everything else looks fine with the performance

I bought the "Budokan!" box today. 1 DVD and 3 CD's :D
Unabomber2 2 years ago
That makes sense. Could it be that Rick's guitar was 'echo'd as well?? Sure sounds like it.
Great band...and this song was a killer classic.
ProbertFire 2 years ago
Absolutely, that's part of the signature CT sound. It was missed while he was gone in the mid 80's.

if you're talking about 1:28 it's because he's doing hammer-ons with his left hand but you can't see that on the screen
zombiesarebad67 2 years ago
It's Tom's 12-string bass that you are hearing on those parts.
missilechicago 2 years ago
Youare right! It is! Holy S***! That bass sounds almost as heavy as Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister his Rickenbacker bass guitar!
I love this song!

LOL! Yes it does. Him and John Entwistle put together, in one bad bass!
