  • what song was this?????????????????

  • St. James Infirmary

  • I liked that they use euphoniums instead of trombones.

    No one respects us!

    this was great though.

    =]

  • A Tuba Quartet will generally have two tubas and two Euphs. A smaller F tuba may be used in lieu of a 2nd Euph, however, trombones should never be substituted.

  • Actually, the most common instrumentation is two euphs, a bass tuba (F/Eb), and a contrabass tuba (CC/BBb)

  • Why should trombones never be substituted?

  • If you put trombones into a tuba quartet as a euph substitute, you lose the overall sound of the group. The Euph part should naturally sound round and "floofy, whereas a trombone is a directional instrument and will not project the desired sound. Hope that helps!

  • Thanks for your reply, but that doesn't really answer my question. When you say "desired sound," aren't trombones the desired sound for dixieland? And aren't tubas more floofy than sousaphones? It's just a question I have.

  • sounds like new orleans to me looks like it too

  • Any particular reason for them using Sousaphones in this?

  • nope just felt like it

  • I was hoping you'd say because of tone difference or something, but I still like your decision.

  • I like sousaphone for CERTAIN types of jazz. And this is that type.

  • I agree 100%

  • I played that for my jazz band!!
