  • oh is tht it

    haha.

  • Great advice about picking.

  • I just got a Gibson ES165 Herb Ellis model guitar....now all I have to do is work out which notes to play and which order to play them. Sure is different to playing a Telecaster.

    Herb was a legend.

  • Così si insegna.Suonando molto e poche chiacchere. Viva Herb Ellis , un grande della chitarra jazz.

  • I just started learning the guitar and I keep asking prospective guitar instructors if they can

play Herb Ellis. Of course, they either never heard of him or they can't touch him. Never did I think I'd find a master class on YouTube delivered by the man himself. God bless YouTube.

  • @Shooters141 ... If you just started learning guitar, you should listen to johnny smith, or better yet you should try to get his complete small group recordings box set from mosiac records.

  • My God! He's a good ol' boy. LMFAO. If anyone had told me he was a country boy I'd have wanted to punch him in his face.

  • i love his hums and mumbles

  • Migod, Herb just asked me to play with him!

  • He has a fat pick not larger then a quarter, lol. Sorry, that was funny. All jazz...

  • How fabulous is YouTube - we get a lesson in jazz guitar from one of the all time greats. In the mid-1980s when he was in his 60s, Ellis had his own trio that played weekly Mon-Tues nights in West L.A. at the old Imperial Garden Restaurant. I used to go religiously - to get three hours of music from an all-time legend with an audience that seldom exceeded 20 people.

  • @sensei48 You're so right, I was lucky enough to see Herb and Barney Kessel in Chicago back in the mid 70's and still remember that show.

  • @sensei48 Wow that must have been amazing. I lived in South Florida and Chubby Jackson and his son Duffy (whom I went to Miami Beach Sr. High with; I never spoke to him, just saw him hanging out with the rockers) played in small venues as well. They put on a hell of a show.

  • @sensei48

    You lucky !

  • This is probably the single most important jazz guitar video lesson in history for me! :-) And I mean it. Thank you again, rushing to buy it all, I see some parts missing!

  • Thank you for posting this. Its great to hear Herb giving instruction.
