  • Oh, gee. I read about this in my newspaper this morning and had to come see what it was like. Just as I expected. Slush. Why do we feel so impelled to concentrate on what is dark, depressing, and hopeless? Is this art? Come on, people. Sarah wrote this schlock before she killed herself. How many weakminded people will read or watch this play and find in it encouragement to off themselves? Stupid.

  • @123gimmevids

When was the last time you actually read this play? I've studied this play for over a year and, categorically YES it is art, the contrasting literary styles alone are compelling evidence of that. The most powerful and amazing thing about this play is the very fact that someone with acute depression wrote so eloquently about their experiences, depression is a destructive illness yet Kane overcame this to construct something brilliant. Consider that before dismissing it as 'slush.'

  • @123gimmevids Are you fucking kidding? How dare you dismiss something so potent in such an off-handed way. What right have you or this newspaper to decide what is and is not art? You may not like it. You may not agree with the issues that it raises. But for one thing, many other people do relate to the depression which Sarah Kane describes here, and rather than "offing themselves," they take great comfort in knowing that they are not alone.

  • @123gimmevids For another thing (sorry, I ran out of characters), the fact that the play stirs such controversy shows that it evokes an emotional response from the audience. Isn't that what she was trying to do in the first place? To spill her emotions upon a reader or audience, in the hope that they can uderstand and reflect upon her inner thoughts which cannot be expressed? The play is an expression. Isn't an expression art?

  • What an amazing actress! I was captivated and she never faltered, not once. I am using this play as a stimulus for my drama performance, and this is incredibly effective.

  • Wow! This is pretty intense, It's a good interpretation of what Sarah Kane might have felt like, the vocal awareness in this are good too :)
