Love this orchestra and band. Especially strings. They all sing their own melody in one harmony with each other. If this world can be in one harmony like this..
After hearing and loving this song first, by Astrud, when I was 17, I heard it again, LIVE by Willie Bobo in the LA nightclub called the Pasta House, year 1970. I was 19 and an older boyfriend waltzed me in to the club to dance-no one carded me at the door! -BOY, was Willie's version different from Astrud's !! ! Both are very lyrical and dreamy ...but just imagine a pale white Germanic girl of 19 trying to dance to Willie's version with her long, blonde, hair in a nightclub full of Latins! Wild!
Hey Realness97- I'm glad you agree. I hadn't realized I posted this comment in the beginning of the year. The song by Jon Lucien brings back memories of a simpler, earlier time in my life.
I listen to this song almost twice a week, just hearing that voice puts me on a hillside snug by an oak tree watching the townsfolk and the sun setting on the land so golden...
well said, such a beautiful song, I could listen to the first verse over an over again. few can appreciate it. Tyler Straub did an amazing version of it too if you search for it.
Astrud was Sade's mentor, though I do not know if they ever met. Dindi is not difficult to sing at all. I am also a vocalist; mezzo soprano coloratura. The video part is so ridiculously monotonous.....same old blue photo throughout.
Gorgeous and haunting! I'm a vocalist and this song is harder to sing than you might think - the note intervals and chord changes require very precise pitch, while keeping the warmth and sensitivity intact. Astrud captured it in her beautiful rendition.
Dindi was composed by Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes and Aloysio de Oliveira. The English version was composed by Ray Gilbert. Astrud interpreted this song in the original-LP "The Astrud Gilberto Album"- Verve. Thanks for post this lovely song! Greetings from Brasil!
This is just perfect harmony between lyrics and a melancholic tune, this song always gets me
3 years listening to Astrud Gilberto, I still feel the same ...

great singing but what's up with the sappy strings? Did a bunch of union musicians need jobs back then?

Prettygia 1 year ago
@Prettygia There's no exact meaning of the word Gingi in portuguese. Also, in European Portuguese it would still be pronounced dihndee. lol.
