ANY ROVER THAT OVER HEATS FOR ANY REASON , ITS USUALY THE DREADED CYLINDER HEAT GASKET ON ITS WAY OUT .
OH AND BUYING ONE BUDGET FOR CYLINDER HEAD GASKETS ON PETROL ENGINES . AND DUAL MASS FLYWHEELS AND EVERY COMPONENT THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE CLUTCH , FUEL PUMPS TWO OF THEM. REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH ,
LOL SORRY I HAVE A MG ZT SO I KNOW , AND TO BE FAIR THEY ARE GOOD CARS AND MOST CARS NOW SUFFER THE DUAL MASS PROBLEMS .
@kawa7900 Thats why you want to avoid the 1.8 engines and go for the diesels and V6s! Every car have there problems, if you want an ultra reliable car, by a some dull japanese car.... just saying! :)
unfortunately the british car industry fell foul of mis management by incompetant fools more interested in golf than the worklngs of the company, by workers who became outraged by the management and went on strike (and in most cases rightly so) and by allowing the rot and decay of lingering design and engineering to stay in place and not changing things
if only we could go back in time and change things and let modern british engineering and design
Rovers were crap , no surprise they went under, poeple stopped buying there rubbish when the competition produced alot better for alot less.
But i love the look of the Rover 75, i am getting a new car next few weeks and still tempted to get a 75 but i know its best not too as Rover isnt even around anymore.
I love the 75. People would say they're crap, but they're not.
Its actually safer than a 2004-2010 BMW 5-Series. And this is a car from 1998, and was nearly the first 5 star EuroNCAP car, if Rover made the head protecting side airbags standard.
such a shame i really liked the Rover 75 i have been in about 4 rover 75s and people tell me that the estates are practical too i just really like the rover 75 the sad part is a lot of the first ones are ending up in scrap yards now so any thing registered between 1998 and 2001 R.I.P. rover 75 :-(
I have a Rover 75 Connoisseur 2.5 ....'Personal Line' special order Aubergine leather seats. Dials reminiscent of a 1930's watch which glow ' coral ' colour at night , walnut fascia, fantastic ride, lovely engine not ....growwll...like an Alfa Romeo. Very pleased with it and it's ' mini - Bentley ' appearance'. It's got class which stands out from the crowd of anodine Audis , BMW's and 'made-in-Turkey' plastic Mercedes with orange -peel paint jobs.
YH. in recent years, jaguar, land rover, aston martain etc are all suddenly owned by japanese ppl and the others like rover, mg and tvr all went bust - i blame germans and japs for stealing the car industry
The 75 was the best MGRover car they made;it was safe in a crash with 4stars,it was lavish with a generous spec and it was above all comfortable, only thing I could fault it on was rear legroom(not as generous as it could be).
rover 75 never originaly came with long wheel base. beautiful car though, but the one at 1:53 is an lwb chinese car (roewe 750) but the same car, its stil made, though (for chinese market only at the time, sadly)
I had a 2004 Rover, Full option. It turned heads. The problem I suffered from is engine heat frequently. Plus transmission rough shifting. I sold it cheap. Sad the company bancrupt.

To put things in perspective, being tested in 2001 by EuroNCAP, Rover 75 got 14 out of 16 points for the frontal offset crashtest (16/16 for side). At the same time (2001,2002), competing cars got as follows (out of 16): Audi A4 12 BMW 3 10 Citroen C5 13 Ford Mondeo 10 MBenz C 14 Opel Vectra 12 Peugeot 406 8 Renault Laguna 15 Saab 9-3 13 Volvo S60 10 VW Passat 12 Subaru Legacy 10 Certainly was 75 a good design, had classiest and most elegant interior too. But people preferred plastic dashes.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Killed before its time ? dont talk pish, it was an ancient design by 2004 and they were basically flogging a dead horse with their whole range and their crappy engines, get over it, rover are gone long live decent car builders now.
and what would YOU call 'decent' car builder?? Mercedes??? HA!! why do you think they're so flipping cheap and used as taxis all over the world!! BMW?!! yeah right... one of the reasons they got rid of Rover was because the German driver count apparently preferred the Rover75 to the Series 5 crap that bmw produced!
Help I am looking at buying a 75 diesel estate (Automatic if poss) anyway, what are peoples thoughts on the auto box mated with the 2 litre oil burner? There are many good points about the car that I like but the few people who post negative stuff have obviously suffered with it, now things go wrong with anything mechanical so what should i look out for
I own a 2002 rover 75 and although it's a very stylish car and has more features than a series 5 BMW, it is very slugish with it's pick up, it has a turning circle of a truck and worst of all it overheats after driving with the aircon on for an hour. Although they are very cheap now I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone.
No Problems with mine, had no breakdowns so far! I could agree with the air con, but i think the handling is allright! It is quiet a long car, but its far better than that china Roewe MG crap, by a long way!
Sounds like you were sold a pup mate.. Check the owners club for the fixes to your problems. I don't get the turning circle of a truck thing either??? I get comments on how tight mine turns. I wouldn't recommend mine to anyone either...it's definitely a keeper. Luscious.
@hypnoroo You can be unlucky with any make of car, but i have had a Rover 75 since October 2005 and so far i have been delighted with it, my plans are to keep it until it's a classic, bought it at just over a year old, so it's been very well looked after. I would recommend one to anybody, provided they are prepared to look after it, do that and they are as reliable as anything else.

@hypnoroo If it overheats after driving with the air con on for an hour then there is a problem. It shouldnt overheat at all, and if you keep driving it without getting it fixed then you are asking for some serious problems in the future. Warped cylinder head etc. My girlfriend has a Rover 75, she does about 700 miles a week sometimes and it is a fantastic car - has not once overheated.
The 75 was a great car my friend's dad had the 2.5 V6 and it was just the most awesome thing to sit in. The company folded because they could not produce cars like this more often. Of course, the fact that they didn't have backing like Honda in the early 90s and BMW for the 75 did not help.

The 75 is a brilliant car. I got my Classic CDT with BMW 2.0L Engine for £3500 53000 miles on the clock. Smooth, comfortable, and fast.

Fucking disgrace that Rover went to shit. What has happened to our once proud car industry? I've had 5 Rovers and they have all been great cars.

if Side Head protecting airbags where standard the rover 75 would of been the first 5 star car.
And the 75 is safer than a new 5 series
