  • I always remembered the master chief looked like phobos and ranger for some odd reason.

  • I used to love this game

  • PC FTW

  • oh man i had this game on dc, this was the shit man. wish my dc never broke and i never had to sell it :( good ol days

  • Are you allowed to play against bots in this game? Or is it strictly player vs. player?

  • @Bludhoundz8 The whole video is me vs. bot's. You can have a max of 3 bot's, plus your self making a total of 4 on any given map. Dreamcast Quake III gets an extra mark here as the AI is more intelligent than the PC version. It also contains the original tier single player mode where you face the AI on their own maps, some changes here and there but your find it's a 10/10 game mode with an extra VMU maze to complete for becoming the Quake 3 champ which is different on all difficulty settings.

  • Today is January 2012 and the memories still will not die!

  • I wasted a school year playing this game all the time, all nights long and going to high school tired as fuck lol

But it was worth it, I never enjoyed a game more

  • You ever play Quake Arena Arcade?

  • could someone tell me if it is free to play online now?

  • It took me, SOOOOOOOOO long to get used to the controls on this game on the dreamcast. I still cant, either. I have the dreamcast version.

  • hot damn! i used to play this on PC and those graphics are just as good! may have to pickup that dreamcast thats been sitting at the local microplay recently...

  • @AAMD11 Keep your eyes open. Quake 3 could be released for XBOX 360 today on XBL Marketplace. Will not be the same with a lack of Keyboard & Mouse as that was the tools we had on Dreamcast but Dreamarena Fever ere I come!!!!!!!!! :)

  • @F4O oh man thanks for the heads up! I actually just renewed my XBL Gold earlier today

  • @AAMD11 No problem. Quake Arena Arcade is a great little version. The good times are back tho less serious than it was 10 years ago. Very pleased with it. Enjoy!!! :)

  • @F4O Um excuse me is Dreamarena still up? Plz reply.

  • @PrrrromotionGiven 1st of March 2002 was the day Dreamarena was taken offline. Your need Dreamkey 3 to get online with a DC today tho that's something I stopped doing like 10 years ago...

  • I remember useing the controller to move and the mouse to aim. ah, the good old 56k days! I remember bitching about the PC users having better internet speed then us Dreamcast user.

  • the music for the dreamcast version of quake 3 made the game so much better

  • i remember playing tjhis one

I spent so many fucking hours on Garena lol

    good times

  • The music brought back those evenings playing dc quake!

  • shit ! that was my first time in quake and my first game on dreamcast

  • quake on the dreamcast can still be playde online in North America

if you google dreamcast online you will find a website were they will show you how to get online

  • thank you by the video ,I need listen this beautifull song of war and blood ,level 2

  • You can still play on independent servers. Try signing back on guys theres servers up for this game! i recommend importing a broadband adapter from japan.

  • i remember bein in 1 of the top clans on dc days i remember the music the simple 4 man only servers some of the best maps created were on dc

  • Frankly, I always viewed Quake 3 as a inferior next to Unreal Tournament.

  • Oh shit, you record it with videocamera?

  • Back in 2008 it looked better, youtube has messed it up over time and this was before they started to support HD. Was recored on a DVD Recorder VOB, compressed to DivX and the original is fine. Blame youtube.

  • wow that brings memories back

  • how does this work??? there is no second analog stick -.-

  • Keyboard and Mouse on Dreamcast

or like playing Smash TV on SNES, the 4 buttons become up/down/left & right leaving the analog stick for free look and triggers for fire ect...

  • just play Quake Live which is almost the same and faster 2 play.

  • why didnt you play it on the longest yard that is the best level of the game for me

  • @Nosfreak2000 The gayest one. Falling downfest

  • for some reson i love dreamcast,i remeber playing quake when i was 6yrs old, good times

  • am I reading other peoples comments right? Can you still play this game online on your Dreamcast?

  • yes you can my friend live befor my house he got a dreamcast online and we play quake 3 online...how many people you think is online 5,10....no they have like 200 people is online no joke

  • I got a copy of this off ebay recently so now I need to figure out how to run the internet connection for it through my laptop!

  • do you have xbox live its the same thing if you dont ok you need i dont think so the only way its you need a modem because in this time laptop was not technologic to do that

  • you can still play this online i use the PC version and i was connecting to a server that said "sega dreamcast" no joke, and this was in 2009

  • Requires the dc-mappack.pk3 52MEG if you were playing genuine dreamcast maps... The game is coming to XBOX 360 XBLA, but how sad will it be with the lack of Keyboard & Mouse??? :(

  • yeah that's gonna suck no keyboard or mouse but im guessing itll be more like quake live and more like the quake 4 controls which werent too bad for the 360

  • Sega closed all the SegaNet server but people on the dreamcast could still get to the PC servers. There are still some games you can play online and there are some where all the servers are gone. To bad, but at least you can still play some online.

  • i'm sorry but what consol is this????

  • Sega Dreamcast.

An amazing version of Quake 3 isn't it. :)

  • damn right how are the controls?

  • Dreamcast.

  • What are the controls for the controller?

  • The thumbstick is used to aim, the ABXY buttons are used to run/strafe, R is used to fire, L is used to jump, and weapons are changed with the D-Pad.

  • You could also use the Dreamcast mouse and keyboard for this game.

  • For what it's worth, I too had lots of fun on Quake 3 for the Dreamcast and I remember getting on some custom PC servers that could have odd settings.

I was able to record some online games on a VCR at the time and I have one at least that was ripped onto the computer. I don't have a working VCR any more though :( I could stick it on here but the quality might suck.

I had a US Unreal T version too that you could play with the Browser disc and get online with.

  • lol in the description "Today is December 2006 and the memorys will never die! However my skills have lol."

  • yah i still play online on this :)

  • Could you explain how you do that? I thought all the servers closed, but I heard that Dreamarena (for Europe) still hasn't.

  • SegaNet has been gone for a long time now. But people can still get the PC servers on there Dreamcast. That is how people play other games online, but some online games can not do it anymore because all the SegaNet Servers are closed down

  • what is the differece between q3 arena and q3 revolution on the ps2?

  • i remember when i had this game on dc, pc users were also able to get on our servers and they always had an advantage

  • Eh, I didn't like Quake 3 online as much as I did Unreal. Reason being that I felt it didn't handle dialup connections as well as Unreal.

  • The online side of Unreal T for Dreamcast was cut from the european version...

Dreamarena in europe was locked to european players which kinda kept things smooth-ish for our sad lil 33k modems and Quake3. I recall the US DC Q3 was world wide, had it running on my DC for a while so I could play for free so maybe thats one of the reasons why US DC Q3 wasnt as smooth online as it could of been??

  • That could be it. I do recall chatting with some UK players on that game from time to time.

  • i commend you on your use of the rocket launcher my friend.

  • best weapon EVER

  • Perfect !!

  • I used to run a server for this game frequently. It was limited to 4 players by the game design as I recollect. I had it running on a 2.4 ghz machine and I connected to it with my Dreamcast over my internal network. I used the Dreamcast Mouse and Keyboard and I had it set up as a railgun only server most of the time. It was a server side Mod and it was a fun time for a while. Too bad the game servers are being taken over by Big companies. It used to be free

  • Wow!

I used to play DC QuakeIII all the time, You haven't lived until you've kept every finger crossed to hope the 4 player connection works over a 33.6kbps modem ;-), until the servers went or I got broadband and using dialup became stupid... can't remember which. I even sent of for the final Dreamkey update (Dreamkey 3 - Anyone remember that?) Dreamcast was a great console, best console before the current crop/crap of consoles came in. :-)

  • what are the controlls to like look around and move on the dreamcast for quake 3, since thers not 2 anolog what do u use??

  • If you buy the NTSC version of the game, you can go online...even with a PAL dreamcast.

  • there are still private servers :/

  • really?i had no idea¡and for unreal tournament?

  • I have been asking around alot!! PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION! Is it possible to play this game on the dreamcast splitscreen using 2 sets of mouse and keyboard??!!!?? So 2 people using a mouse and keyboard in split screen on the Sega Dreamcast???

  • Say in the PAL manual, page 36. "Each player is allowed to use up to two peripherals simultaneously." It also adds that, "but two Dreamcast controllers used by one player is not allowed".

I read that as a YES, 2 Mice and Keyboards can be used on dreamcast at the same time when playing Quake 3.

  • I wonder why is only 4 player on internet an 30fps,, the dreamcast is not weak, an I consider unreal tournament better on dc, I enjoy the online back in the day :D

  • spent alote of nights playin that on DC it was the funnest and and maybe the best lookin game for DC

  • i just bought my self a dreamcast and this game. My question are, how do I play this online? And do I need to set up something on the dreamcast?

    Thanks...

  • They still have servers available if you live in the USA. You can still get online but the dreamcast comes with a dial up modem. If you have cable or DSL you need to get the broadband adapter. send me a message if you want a good link to a forum about this same issue. I just googled it. Hope this helps man.

  • in the united states seganet is off line. but if you still want to try it the dreamcast should have come with a 56k modem and a phone cord

  • I am looking forward to show us about Lan between many platforms.

  • thanks for share.

Someday i´ll upload a video show how setup a LAN with xbox,PC and dreamcast quake 3.

  • This game is awesome!!! You should add more Quake 3 videos.

  • So this is why Quake 3 Arena looks like crap on the PS2, it was just a damn port from the Dreamcast.

  • Haha you fucking wish it was a port of the Dreamcast version!! The video quality here is bollox, cheers YouTube... Other than that the DC version was very faithful as could be to the PC version. At the time the masses never even had PC's that could run Quake 3 as well as what the DC was pushing. PS2 Q3 was done by EA and looks jack all like the DC version. On Dreamcast I did and you can, play PC players who have the DC_mappack..

BTW Dreamcast Quake 3 also runs in VGA. Mouse & Keyboard. AVIT!

  • Ok, if the PS2 version wasn't a port, why did it literally look like crap on the PS2?

  • Because Electronic Arts (EA) I guess, built the game from the ground up and added there own elements to the levels. Its called tampering. The FOV on PS2 was way out making everything look wide. IMO it did not resemble Quake 3 very well at all. Unreal Tourny on PS2 was better than Dreamcast mind. Q3 PS2 came at a time when not many people knew how to code on the machine, get the best out of it. One of the earliest FPS there was for PS2...

  • who thinks anrki is the best quake charecter

    I doooooooooooooo

  • Use to play this game 7 years ago online on the DC. Best fps experience ever. Does anyone ever go on anymore?

  • I wonder why they made a new soundtrack. The old one was awesome...

  • dreamcast quake3 mini game maze in memory stick screen :)))

    >>>i never played ps quake3revalotion

  • great console!

i've been playng quake III online on dreamcast for long time

  • I loved that years of Dreamarena and everything which had something to do with it, including the online gaming. When I've listened the music of the "Q3A" menu a bunch of memories have came to me. Simply some of the best years with SEGA!

  • EXCELENTE VIDEO

    DREAMCAST RULES

  • I play tis game online in my sega dreamcast is perfect mutch bether on Dreamcast

  • Awesome.

  • Something about Quake III never quite gelled with me. I much preferred it on DC, but even then it had a very impersonal atmosphere. It was just map after map with no goal in sight. Dip in, play a few stages turn off. I quickly wondered what the point was.

  • great game, this was my first online experience and it was awesome!

  • same here. had a great time. inspired me to build my first pc just for Q3.

  • haha yeah! Made me go and buy at new PC. At the time P4 2.4Ghz had just come out and thought it was smart I could run 4 Quake3's on my new PC all at the same time lol. I later started playing 3wave which was awesome, but at the end of the day the PC scene was a bunch of ignorant bast ards and I lost intrest. DC Q3 was quality!!

  • why was the pc scene ignorant bastards? i still play q3 on pc. the scene is where all the best fps players are.

  • On dreamcast we all grew together and respected each other as if the scene was one LaRgE clan in its self. Fucking amazing times that have not been repeated on any system since. The magic comes from everyone playing on the same hardware. When I hit PC everyone was out to win and I never seen so many cheating time nudging 125fps vof twisting mothers in my life.

  • CONT: Some would even drain the bollox out of a server just to try and be ahead of everyone else. All I saw was many, many poor players who had no idea on how to control a map because they were pathectic 1 life every min spam shooters. Alot of serious players jumped to 3wave and from me PC Q3 was best played via 3wave. Maybe I enetered PC Q3 scene a bit late, but at the time it was Cr@p.

  • CONT: so having said that, on PC it was each to thier own because there wasnt much friendlyness going on. Even other dreamcast players felt the same having spent a heck of alot of money to jump on PC Q3.

We also started running the DC_mappak for our selfs just to keep the flame alive. Was laughable because on our grounds we owned where the pc boy thought it was just a woopy-do free download. DC Q3 for the win. ;-)

  • Completely agreed. The community was the perfect size, small enough to always find people you have met before, and large enough over the years to always find a bunch of servers to play with people you haven't. Plus, we pretty much all DM/FPS virgins. It was really interesting to see basic strategies develop and swiftly become adopted across the community. Fact is, this is the first and last FPS game setup so well for 1v1 on any console since then. Being able to spec a match was great.

  • Also, I would say various PCq3 communities were quite decent because there is no unified "PC q3 community". Many branched off from various mods and laughably different point releases. Some better then others. For example the more hardcore quake3'ers (osp>cpma) still have a rather large yet tight nit community. Many of them are decent, of course some are complete dicks. Though, to hang and have fun there you have to really try to up your game. Not my gig anymore. Can't wait for QuakeLive!

  • Because the PC players were generally a bunch of nobheads. The PC version may have been the better game, but the players on the DC version were far better to play with.

  • no offense but i think thats all in your head. I saw plenty bba dc players go at it against pc and win. also it helps to oil mouse rollers not to nitpick.

  • Guess what, a Micrsoft optical mouse works on Dreamcast and I would imagine many more optical mice brands would also. ;-)

  • i remember playing this game for hours, dreamcast foreva!

  • Not really, the PC version is better. Not many people could run it in 1999 though.

  • Whoa, this looks way better than the PC version.

  • Yes. You'll need to search online with your pc and find the free servers and then follow the instructions to playing online with your DC still...

Basically people are running free servers, so whenever those servers are up, and they let you in, you can play.

  • OMG!! I play that game for hours and I love it so much. DC fo' life!

  • seganet is gone, but people have free servers for many of the games.

  • so i can still play online like today if i wanted and stuff cause i just got a dc im a retro gamer so thats why but still i can?

  • onlineconsoles dot com

  • thanx dude

  • this game rocks i wanna buy it for my dreamcast

  • get a pc controller and download quake 3 for free. Its servers are up and runnin mofunzone and many other sites have it.

  • I wish I could find the soundtrack to the dreamcast version, so many memories and a great soundtrack.

  • Buy a dreamcast and rip the music. Sorted. ;-)

  • get xfire(dot com) add me, rabidnova, ill give you q3:arena downloadlink, its gone open source for pc, and to eb honst, its the best fps ive played (and ive played alsmot all of them that mena something onln8ie) its allways the same, but there loads to do in quake! not gotten boared and been playing for about 5 years now

  • best fucking game good times i wish the new systems would come out with powerstone

  • The PS2 version never had a chance. It came out in the days when people found it hard to code for PS2. EA took the game up and yes it sux. :)

Thanks to DC Q3, Team Arena used a couple of the DC exclusive maps. Q3 Threewave was awesome back when I used to play it!

  • does seganet still work?

  • I didn't realize that Q3 had a different soundtrack on the DC; cool - wonder if it's "lying around" somewhere online?

  • This cost me a fortune playing online. I payed 1p a minute on BT and one quarter it was about £90. I was in a clan called team frag and then started one with my mate called NFG. we were quite the team. Plus with the added novelty of mocking the foreign players!

  • dreamcast 4eva

  • can people still find games online nowadays its pretty old now

  • Not on Dreamcast, they shut down the Dreamcast dedicated servers. But if you upgrade to the latest point release there is like 100 servers, although most are empty.

  • Man this brings back memories playing it from almost the day it was released until it pretty much went the wayside after the xbox came out. So many great times playing and making a lot of cool interweb friends. Little did I know how baddly I stunk at the game until I got on the PC and downloaded some ZeRo4 demo's. lol

  • Continued.. Ahh well, fun times. I had a few names over the years:

    Jester7*Dfc CoLd{9mm} c0ld*DD,[T-Verta]iH* and L0D|c0ld Still quite a few active ex-dcq3'ers on irc.enterthegame , #l0d is a good place to start.. Peace!

  • also should have made this online gameplay.

  • there are 4 players online right now.

  • How did you look around? Like up and down? Assuming the movement is on the joystick.

  • Just like PC. Dreamcast has Mouse and Keyboard support which comes as standard. At the time of play I was using a Microsoft optical mouse via an adaptor. ;-)

  • its hot thits all shut up

  • q3a for dreamcast is much better tham pc version!!!, do you know where to donwload the music of q3 arena for dreamcast (sorry, idon´t speak english very well)

  • wow if i had that good quality and played on a Dreamcast i would own lol i can own without good ass Graphics lol but like this lol wow and you should change the /cg_fov 110 so you can see eazier lol

  • wow lol wow lol wow.........

Discription, long time no play. Got by just fine without tampering with the fov, sound is everything on both DC & PC. DC runs a 30fps and the aim is not pixel perfect as it jumps around 3 pixels as you turn. Would take time to get back into it...

  • whoops...I stand corrected, folks!

  • First online console play, first broadband support, first M/K support...and, first console to have a combo joystick/trackball built for it...which was a boon to those folks who had serious trouble coordinating the standard M/K setup. Major innovations all around, but it couldn't compete with Sony's market share...*OW!

  • actually first online console play was snes research it.

  • nopes it was the nes, but the first one properly was the saturn but the world wasn't prepared for worldwide service, dc also brought the damn modem installed and a worlwide service.

  • genesis had an additional modem way earlier than snes came out, so you said: "research it" :D

  • i dunno i was sayin random shit to look like I knew what I was talkin bout

  • Both the Genesis and SNES had a third party device called Xband for online play. The Genesis one was released a little before the SNES one. The Saturn's Netlink was the first online service made by a console manufacturer, the precursor, so to speak, to Seganet and Xbox Live.

  • man I use to play Q3 at my friends house on his computer and computers cost so much money back then I couldn't afford one but I did buy a Dreamcast and I played q3 online with my Dreamcast and... with the keyboard mouse! Dreamcast was so ahead of its time,, these next gens should be bowing down to sega!

  • this is my bbb town: lianghu.chapso. de

  • DC emulation isn't great at the moment. Quake 3 on the Dreamcast was awesome. I played it for years when I came out, and then later switch to the PC version. I had so much fun in those days. :)

  • i am a dedicated quake 3 player at heart on the pc. and have never seen the DC version until now and holy shit it looks good :). is there a way i can emulate the game on the pc?

  • dude seriously learn how to shoot. and pc's better than supid dreamcast

  • Mengekyou seriously, learn how to spell.

  • man thank you,I loved this game on D.C,it was insane

  • at least some people remember the good ol DC days, i still say Quake 3 was one of the best PC to console translations. me and my cousins still play Quake on a farly regular basis. ahhh nostalgia

  • I just connected online in Q3 DC for the first time in years, because I found a free 56k ISP today. Too bad there wasn't a single other human DC player. Just a few dozen empty or bot-filled servers.

Anyways, I am looking for information on the DC version's soundtrack. It's quite different or arranged compared to the PC version, and I was hoping for some track names and info on the credentials behind the music and such. Thanks.

  • my favourite song is in this videos, but í have not found it yet, damm......(i don´t speak english)

  • US Ntsc quake 3 arena for dreamcast is still online and it will be forever cause it doesnt support to dreamarena. you dont need to have original copy.

  • No it isn't. They shut down the dedicated Dreamcast servers all over the world.

  • Not sure who your talking too... You can run dedicated Dreamcast servers with the PC version, (v1.6 I think it was) using the DC Map Pack. The servers run on the same servers as PC users. PC users can also join if they have the DC Map Pack. DreamKey 3 kinda patched Quake3 DC so it would look for these servers insted of Dreamarena,(here in the UK that is).

  • Plus the Dreamcast version had more arenas, and a Raging Soundtrack! My fav song from Quake 3 is in this video :D

  • Hey I had Q3 for DC too. I loved it. Great video, I loved this game so much. Just isn't the same on PC :-s 5 Stars!

  • Glad you liked it, just wanted to see some action on YouTube of how cool the DC version really was. Tiz true about the PC version. Its nice the bots on DC are more human like than the PC version because as the video shows you can still have a lot of fun even if the game is never going to talk back to you ever again. :(
