  • after metal box....best album..literally

  • this isn't weird music. this is good music.

  • weird music...

  • @MrMethadrine

    weird genius!

  • Oh John, you nut 8D

  • Ginger Baker on drums here...

  • First saw this video in between live sets at Ding Walls(?) in London, approx. 1985. Made me reluctant to take the stage.

Vai is crazy, extreme and incredible here.

Lydon is (as usual) in-your-face nihilism.

    The perfection of Punk.

  • Album came out right before Roth's "eat 'em and smile" which grabbed all the Steve Vai glory...but the PIL stuff has always been the ace in the hole during any serious discussion about Vai for those of us in the know since it came out. vintage solos on the part of steve, and nice to see lydon at least act angry again.

  • R.I.P. JOHN McGEOGH

  • I like it how the toy robots are spinning round going crazy no doubt feeding on Johnnies energy which is of course being carefully channeled through his anger!

  • My favorite PIL Song! Saw 2-3 times in 87 and 88 with Lime Spiders and INXS!

  • My favorite PIL Song! Saw 2-3 times in 87 and 88 with Lime Spiders and INXS!

  • This is one of my all time fav PIL songs, so awesome...the guitar is amazing! Lydon is a crazy genius!

  • amazing song by one of the best bands ever

  • Steve Vai ftw

  • is there a song called.."fair weather friend"??? or is that the line in a song

  • F(arewell my) F(air weathered) F(riend)...

FFF - first track on same album

  • cheers!!

  • ALBUM is very underated, its a great album with some great guitar work.

  • this writing kinda suxd -- I guess johnny was tryin' 2 tell Us something --

  • This album had the craziest line up in rock history. Lydon, Vai, Laswell, Worrell, Tony Williams, and Ginger freakin' Baker. My favorite PiL disc.

  • Right on you named em all, It is the best disc put out by pil. Lydon was a crazy dude but he knew how to bring in real talent to keep it interesting.

  • you don't know nothin' about pil records son. only i do. and don''t yew forget it little squirt!

  • Ok boss, All hail the king of PIL knowledge. GIke moldberg. Now Im gonna crawl under a rock and listen to some elevator music. Guess I should throw out all my Sex pistol/Pil stuff Any self respecting"squirt" would. Poor poor pitiful me!!

  • you've got the right idea. all hail the king! not only of pil but of everything. that's how fucking brilliant i am son. don't throw out your pil and sex pistols albums. just allow ol' gike here to tell you what is what. metalbox/second edition, public image-first issue, album/compact disk/cassette, and the flowers of romance are the best albums mang. and never mind the bollocks should be in the top 10 records on any list or the cunt needs a crack! now get out from under that rock and scram runt!

  • Holly Fucking Hooters wings Batman, You must Be the SHIT fo sho!! Fuckin A right about the Never mind the bullocks, Its in my top ten of all time, but what the fuck does a RUNT Know?? Glad I graduated from Squirt. To runt I guess what your sayin is IM FUCKIN MOVIN ON UP IN THE WORLD. cITY baBYS rEVENGE MOTHER FUCKER!! kEEP ON SLAMIN THE WORLD! OOOH yeaahhh

  • i am definitely the shit son. thanks, i know. it's in yer top 10? i guess i won't have to give ya a crack then. i can let top 15 go, but anything after that, i will beat you the fuck down and regain my normal composure so quick, it would be as if nothing even happened. yes brah, yer moving up. soon you'll just be a milksop or even a goober. then who knows!

  • Say it isn't so! I can be a Milksop or even a Goober?? I have arrived, Put the fuckin stakes on the BBQ, Kick the fuckin Dog, and slap your momma. Im on my way to being the Shit just like you!! oh shit!! Im tearing up }sniff sniff.. Im so proud "these things in EASE" Every dog has its day!!

  • it's so son. you've now progressed to being a drip. now go enjoy yer steaks brahh. pretty soon you'll be have the man i am drip. keep striving sir. it will happen.

  • A drip!!! wow Im gonna celebrate US style, Im poppin in a 50 round magazine and bustin loose on the MOON. Im striving on full auto Brudda!! NOW what does this Mean?

  • home, sweet home

  • Rotten goes Faith No More...Did he "sell out" or...

nonetheless this is PIL's best song.

  • Great stuff! Did Vai show up in any videos with PIL or go on tour?

Vai's 'attitude' fit in perfectly with PIL.

  • i like it. lydon sounds a bit like jim morrison in this. were'nt the doors in the list of his "boring old farts" too, back in the sex pistols' era?

  • john likes the doors

  • apparently he does. and like i said i like the song. but there are also other elements in it . i can hear echoes of pink floyd, and the residents too.

  • I never implied that you didn't like the song.

  • In his autobiobraphy Lydon says he always liked the Doors.

  • yes, i 've heard of this. well he had to like some rock musicians, otherwise he wouldn't get involved.

  • Great song from a great album

  • david gilmour could have played guitar on this track!sounds like the guitar on the wall

  • I love Vai's work with PIL.

  • @Rawlinson18 ...his solo on 'Ease' is absolutely epic. One of Vai's best ...that you never hear about.

  • @Rawlinson18

Steve Vai is on record as saying he thinks he did some of his best stuff with PIL.

I have to say I agree, I love their sound.

  • Swimming with sharks, just as cool as this, 20 years aside, what a talent. John Lydon, you accompanied me through college and you still hit the button. Top banana!

  • Happy Birthday Johnny.....WOW 53....

Your still the Man :-) Jimi

  • Amazing Song

The Band That Lydon Should Play Again And Over Again

  • I remember playing this CD non-stop at art school, 1990?

Didn't know who Vai was at the time, but I remember loving the crazy/creepy guitar.

And when I heard that it was Baker pounding the drums, I thought, That's pretty kooky!

    But yeah, it works.

    Genius.

  • in this song tony williams is drumming, who is in my opinion even a bit more amazing

  • he is amazing but I have to notice that this is much less rhythmically complex than some of the other stuff he's done

  • yeah this is pretty standard if you compare it to the stuff he did with Miles Davis, but he would've completely outstaged Lydon if he drummed like that.

  • OMG, this song is AMAZING! luv it! very inspirational, btw hes hot ;)

  • John Lydon is an amazing person, he inspired me, hes the man. \m/

  • Wow, another Videoclip from 'Album'. Are there any more clips from it besides 'Rise'?

    23,666 Views. hehe

  • is that sex pistols singer?? and where is vai?

  • yup... is the guy from the sex pistols. and Vai only played in the studio, he didn't go on tour for this.

  • @belsenghost I saw these guys in concert 3 times!!!

  • Lennartlbanez, yes, that is the sex pistols singer John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten)- Re: vai? doubt he ever played w/him - check out early P.I.L. 'Careering', 'Poptones'-had a great guitar player Keith Levine. Cheers! - D.

  • I have an annoyingly small part of this on a BBC 2 1989/1990 welcome to the 1990's New Year Special that I have on video, which tries to span 1980's music across things like barking mad, etc. This was one of the best pil albums after Flowers of Romance. Sheer brilliance.

  • Im not a Vai fan ( I usually cant stand shredding, apart from Dave Navarro occasionally) but he was really good in this album. This whole album was great

  • I loved this album. I used to listen to this

all the time in the 80's!!

  • Tony Williams? Wasn't Ginger Baker the drummer on this album?

  • Both Tony Williams and Ginger Baker are on the album. Tony Williams did this track.

  • This song is not regular.....

I remember so many long, in some part's is censored?

  • 2:00 True Lydon deep attitude :)

  • still miming to Alice Cooper

  • whilst stamping on your face at the same time, thats real talent.

  • I would let Mr Lydon stamp on my face for the price of a cigarette, given all these stupid regulations of where you can light up or not. If you're half as talented, you can have half of such. Thank you for your humour. All the best.

  • would let Mr Lydon stamp on my face for the price of a cigarette, given all these stupid regulations of where you can light up or not. If you're half as talented, you can have half of such. Thank you for your humour. All the best.

  • ace ace and ace! lydon vai and baker what a trio and the albums great too

  • It's amazing...almost 30 years later, and they still have a better sound/ measage/ and music skill than 90% of the crap on the radio today...or in the past few decades for that matter.

  • Check the credits on this album if you wanna talk about skill. It helps when you have Vai, and people from Cream, P-Funk, and Miles Davis. There are legendary musicians all over it.

  • @funhunter671 no shit man, those were the days, todays music BLOWS.

  • steve Vai with Rotten??? jajaajajajaj

  • yeah it works, usually steve via was working with

pricks like david coverdale but with lydon genius was the outcome

  • you're confused, David lee roth is a legend his songs have attitude and charisma along with Vai's quiant/unique guitar playing and sense of humour = genius

  • You're confused, I said Coverdale!!?

  • A forgotten gem! This band (all members) was truly unique! Great songs!

  • Five stars. Lydon commits to this song with gusto -- I'd never seen this video before and it's truly worthy of the song.

  • Why didnt Album sell about 30 million copies?!?!?!?!?

  • Ohh God Lydon You Was You Are And You Are Gonna Be Always A Genius.

  • well said

  • totally agree, the man is a legend.

    this album is the best

  • why has this song been edited like anything, was this virgin's idea?

near the end john's facial expressions reminded me a little like Bobcat Goldthwait in Police Academy

  • I CAN NOT let see it this video

  • Just read Steve Vai is quoted "This was one of my best contributions"...

  • Yes, its quite an interesting bit of playing by Mr Vai.

  • Yep...so quite MINIMALISTIC :)) compared to Passion and Warfare ;)

  • Yes, Elusive light & sound is a recent one I really like by Vai.

  • the best is lydon no doub

  • Nothing bad for an Irish guy born in London at the same daywhen his immigrant parents came to England. Despite -- and even because? -- the meningitis, the total ammnesya at his 8, the curve on his spine, the lack of musical education... HE IS THE BEST!

Love him or hate him: this man broke the Music History in 2 parts: Before and After the Punk. HE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE ENTIRE POP CULTURE HISTORY. He changed the course of rivers of thoughts. The rest is the rest.

  • hahaha, yes, I agree

  • John Lydon - the big suit years LOL

  • This brings back alot of memories. I love PIL!!

  • I especially prefer Steve's solo in the song Ease on that album. Too bad there's no video of that...

  • Ease... wow very good song, esp. Vais playing indeed!

  • the last great pil album!!!

  • No one can scream a great song like John Lydon... good stuff. I only wish it had been the whole song, but hey, all the songs on that album (Album, lol) were probably too long for videos.

  • pfft, if a guns n' roses like 'November Rain' which goes for 8:53 can be played in full, although not many music programs would allow it and the same for a Queen song 'bohemian rhapsody' which was played in its full form I'm sure 'home' could have got the same treatment. I think 'ease' is the longest song on the album

  • ease would be the longest song, but they could've played it also. radio sucks. same old songs played on and on.

  • When i bought "album" I didn't see steves name on any of it.I thought whoever it is playing is amazing. But that style of playing sounded familiar.when i found out who it was i played it again, and now i enjoy it even more.I don't know why.

  • Just Great!!!

  • "Better Days Will Never Be..." :(

  • So even Johnny succumbed to the '80s sound'!

  • Great album , good track too! thanks for posting

  • I have never seen this vid - Thanks for the upload - Weird thing about this album is that Steve Vai does the guitar which is incredible - I met Vai at a record store signing 1 day and had him sign this album on the cover - He thought that was a rare treat and he liked the fact that somebody actually knew he played on it...

  • Priceless...

  • I'm amazed this is the concept they came for a film clip to this song AND that's not a compliment, it doesn't suck but its not good either. Before I saw the clip I expected more from a film clip for a powerful rock, political song. Its a shame this song is edited

  • I thought Public Image Ltd. was a group Johnny Rotten did after the Sex Pistols. Any connection to this band or just the same name?

  • Well, this is Johnny Rotten's band. And, believe it or not, he's the singer.

  • I'm just a bit ignorant about this. Is John Lydon Johnny Rotten's real name? I admit it did look and sound like him but I was thrown off by the credits. I'm very impressed at the people he's playing with. I was interested in the S.P's in the late '80's and then later got into funk and found out about these other guys, just never pictured them playing together. Thanks for posting and thanks for the info and any more you have.

  • Yes. John Lydon is Johnny Rotten's real name.

  • Such musical power put behind a guy who screams. But then punk never was my thing.

  • His voice is wonderful on this album.

  • As usualy, video sucks. But one of the greatest songs from the greatest album ever

  • Interesting Tony Williams and Bill Laswell both jazz folks on this. Or are these different folk with the same names.

  • Good song - shit video.

  • lydon and vai. wooooo

  • It was a bit disappointing since I expected to see more fire. But still, it's an awesome video.
