This theme will always have fond memories for me. They started using this theme right around the time LSU was starting to return to relevance in college football and was used for some of their big wins and heartbreaking losses during the first few years of Saban's time there. Good times
Can you smell the season in the air! Today's date is August 20th, 2010. The time is here folks! The 2010 College Football Season Is Among us people! YEAHHHH!!!!! Can you tell I'm a NCAA Football fan??!!! GOD, I can't wait!
I can understand why they changed this theme. I liked it and still do like it, but listening to it now it does sound a bit old. Now the ABC theme from the early 2000s on the other hand, they should have kept. That theme doesn't really have an old sound to it and is perfect imo.
I'm trying to find the marvelous highlight music for college football that one of the networks used in 80's and 90's. It's not used now, but was great -- sort of haunting melody. Anyone know what it was?
You know when you think about things in the past and you hear something that reminds you of it, and you kinda get a tingly feeling in your stomach and feel sad and happy at the same time and want to cry tears of joy.
I remember coming home after saturday films from my HS football game and watching a college football game on ESPN with this song kicking everything off. Great memories!
I still see myself as a 10-11 year old listening to this theme everytime West Virginia and Virginia Tech would play each other. Why can't this one come back?
Thank you all for your kind words. It was a sad day for me when I found out espn had removed my music without any indication. I am however fortunate to have had such a long run from 1993-2006. Yours truly Anthony DiLorenzo composer of ABC Sports
I wish ESPN would bring this theme song back for BOTH their own College Football telecasts and the ESPN on ABC Saturday afternoon and Prime Time Saturday night College Football Telecasts! The present version that debuted in 2004 is BORING!!!

I saw the 1991 Citrus Bowl on ESPN classic recently and sure enough, this was the music used by ABC, not their regular theme.
And yes this was better than the 2004-2009 music with the boring monotonous drums. Thankfully the new 2010 remix sounds clearer and less crappified.

WTF with the -1? I've heard elements from this theme more recently than 2003... especially :28-:33

The current theme is just a re-done version of the old theme. Some similar cues still exist.

Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried went together with this theme like bread and butter.
Nothing like Franklin and Gottfried doing Saturday night games in the south.
