I'm happy they never did a remake. hate when studios remake stuff cause of better technology. games are art. if you re made the Mona Lisa every 3 years it would be just a painting of some stupid chick. I know square enix teases us a lot with tech demos like these, but i respect them for not pulling a George Lucius on its fans.
the thing that impresed me more of tech demos is that developers always make better things. For example this is like the 20-30% of the PS2, same as the one with Ganondorf vs Link on GC. When you compare this video with FF12 and the other one with Twilight Princess you get really impresed.
Gamedevelopers dont realize how important legendary games are, games like FFVIII and Legend of Zelda OoT, these games had so much to do and so many things to explore!
With that being said, why is it that gamedevelopers fail to see the big picture? we have the technology so where are the minds? sick and tired of all these mediocre unoriginal boring games! i just wish that they would remake some of the titles with better graphics at least, any true gamer would know what i mean.

Ugh why do they play with us?! A FFVIII with voices and better graphics, and Uematsu tweaking and adding to the soundtrack, and extra goodies in the battle system, and little additions and tweaks to the story! Maybe add a new town or two, add even MORE backstory to Cid and Irvine, maybe give Ellone more screen time!?
They did it with FF1, 2, 3, and 4, lets do it with the rest!!

Full motion Video- Real people do the action and it was ported to the PC and they just used The skin/texture of the characters. as you can see in FF8's FMV's, their movement are very flexible as it was done by a real human and not just some crappy computer.
CG- Just computer generated , so you would feel a little robotic.
Overall:
FMV- for the gracefullness and flexiblity for the movements
The same way they use motion capture for FMVs. They take the movements of the actors' limbs and map them to the limbs of the 3D models. The only way FMVs differ from CG cutscenes is that CG cutscenes are rendered in real time. They're both generated the same way, it's just that FMVs are videos of footage generated on another computer while CG is rendered by the player's console.
This came out a year before the PS2 was released 1999, after watching this tech demo I preordered mine, funny thing walking out of the store on that glorious 10-26-00 people wanted to buy my system for as high as $1000,anyways tech demos tend to exaggerate the systems capabilities, N64, 32X, Xbox are proof of this, the PS2 produced this in real time and games ended up looking much better after a few years, hard to believe after playing Timesplitters that game had horrible graphics for being PS2

see when it comes to favorites, no one can decide that. But, to me 8 was epic much more than 7. But when it those to which one was better to me 8 showed it, also depends in taste of what we like that determines what makes something better. 7, 8, 10, and 6 were to me the ones that pushed the envelope.
@eimaisklhros I agree. I love FFVIII, though FFVII should be liked for its own merits not just because everyone else likes it. But alas, there are those who say they 'love' VII but have never played the original game. Sure, now they have a chance now that it's on PSN. But before that, I would run into people all the time who would say that they loved it, but had only ever watched Advent Children or played Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.

I cannot thumbs up enough. VII, VIII, and IX are THE most epics (besides X, but it doesn't need a remake :D It's got the voices and some decent graphics) in the FF series. They ALL need PS3 remakes!

Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind FF7 and FF8 main character designs, and battle planning director, FF X main character designer, and Director/designer/story writer/ of KH series and Dissidia, and also director of Advent Children (just giving the mans importance and word worth) stated that 7 will be remade after his project FF Versus 13 in which he is basically the one man team.
IN deed Final Fantasy may be the most successful mainstream wise, but Final Fantasy 8 offered us something more than just a story, but a tale, a legend, a romance that really struck into my soul that brings good fucken times. FF8 Squall, is the most epic FF character ever made. The theme, the setting the scenario, and the background and story, .. this is a shakespear novel of FF.

8 was the first FF i played and i prefer it over seven. seven and eight are roughly equal. 8 has a much more enjoyable beggining in my oppinion but it gets stale by disc 4 whereas 7 manages to keep your attention until the end.
True, but 7 is looked at as epic for the wring reasons. 8 is more realistic (at least when it comes to characters) Whilst 7 has what most see as more epic characters. Even though when it comes down to the true philosophy it is just guys that are super imperfect trying to do what they believe is right.
If anyone disagrees I would love to hear there what they derived from the game so we can compare ideas.

well, you have to admit it - the fact it is overrated in the first place made it better. if not then we wouldn't the FF7 compilation (crisis core, advent children) which actually defeats any other FF titles in some way.

6 its good, but it has too many characters (i NOT the kind that use all of them and max the stats, so that quite backfired on me) and i only really like a few of them (kefka and shadow are my favorite in 6)
Another one to agree. Final Fantasy 8 was the best FF game IMO. But i'd rather it be HD quality now as i don't have my ps2 anymore. Plus with square enix bringing out the FF games onto xbox it would be a great achievement for xbox and I for one would go and buy it rather than a ff7 spin off/ remake.
Yeah it must look terrible on HD TV as it was crap graphics (But were good for its time) If only we could have a full remake of it with better graphics. I'd rather that than ffXIII Though i am looking forward to it.
I think Final Fantasy VIII is the only second or third FF title that I ever enjoyed after the series debut on a new platform. I guess thats part of the reason I'm excited about XIII as usually the intial release ends up being the best Final Fantasy for that generation.

This was never meant to be a full game. It was meant to be a tech demo. By the time the ps2 had come out, FF8 was the most recent FF game to be released, and BY FAR the best looking. If anything, it was a hint that the FF series would eventually be continued on the ps2.
Each Final fantasy game has a different story and characters. The only exception is the FF 7 compilation and FF 10-2, the only direct sequal. Each game consists of on going elements, such as monsters, chocobos, and magic. I find them to be exceptional RPG's and enjoyed each one. The first 6 are really fun, but most players start at 7 and go up because of the graphics and they are easier to find. The first 6 are usualy put on handheld systems these days.7-9 are on Pslaystation 1, 10-12 are on PS2
Final Fantasy 1 and 2 WERE remade, they were original 8 bit on the NES
However when they were put on Wonderswan they were remade to be 16 bit, later they were ported from Wonderswan to PS1 and GBA, then further enhanced for the PSP remakes

Yeah, I started on FF8 too! Then to FFX, then FF9, then FF7 (I have no idea which one's my favourite >_> FF7 and FF8 are big contenders though). FF12... didn't really like it =(
ff8 has the storyline that wormed into my heart the most, and the characters are so lovable and have the ability to change... my parents thought i was insane when i finished it, because the ending fmv's had me sobbing and then the home video part in the credits had me cracking up...i think they did that on purpose...
FF8 was the story that took my heart the most as well. That is until FFX came out, but I find them both to be on par with one another. 2 well crafted titles worthy to carry the name Final Fantasy. I'm not dissing the others by anymeans, 7 was great, 9 was ok, just 8 and 10 were and prolly will remain my favorites as far as the story lines and characters go. Kudos my friend!!

you should be familiar with the trend. FF1-FF4 had seen their remakes so logic states that 5 and 6 would be next on their agenda. after that 7, then 8. but it wouldn't arrive until 10-20 yrs from now.

But when it those to which one was better to me 8 showed it, also depends in taste of what we like that determines what makes something better. 7, 8, 10, and 6 were to me the ones that pushed the envelope.

But alas, there are those who say they 'love' VII but have never played the original game. Sure, now they have a chance now that it's on PSN. But before that, I would run into people all the time who would say that they loved it, but had only ever watched Advent Children or played Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.

@eimaisklhros Yeah, i get what you mean. VII brings in more money, so they spend more money on it. I agree with you the Advent Children was epic, and I will say that I really liked Crisis Core, but that's merely my opinion.
However, about an VIII remake. I don't know if they'll do it now, but apparently they had been planning one for the PS2 but it was, unfortunately, scrapped.

Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind FF7 and FF8 main character designs, and battle planning director, FF X main character designer, and Director/designer/story writer/ of KH series and Dissidia, and also director of Advent Children (just giving the mans importance and word worth) stated that 7 will be remade after his project FF Versus 13 in which he is basically the one man team.

Battle System - Draw Magic, free summons, and critical Limit break system. (those are the big things). IMO, the ATB is a bit faster.
Story - Well--many stories have that basic archetype of a chosen hero, destroyer, and a love interest...
Weapons - You can't buy them, you have to gather materials to "upgrade" them.
Limit System- Differs for each person. Rinoa=walk the dog, Selphie=random magic, Irvine=make/find/buy Ammo, etc.
Agreed, FF7 gives you a CHANCE for chara. background

8 was the first FF i played and i prefer it over seven. seven and eight are roughly equal. 8 has a much more enjoyable beggining in my oppinion but it gets stale by disc 4 whereas 7 manages to keep your attention until the end.

True, but 7 is looked at as epic for the wring reasons. 8 is more realistic (at least when it comes to characters) Whilst 7 has what most see as more epic characters. Even though when it comes down to the true philosophy it is just guys that are super imperfect trying to do what they believe is right.
If anyone disagrees I would love to hear there what they derived from the game so we can compare ideas.

Another one to agree. Final Fantasy 8 was the best FF game IMO. But i'd rather it be HD quality now as i don't have my ps2 anymore. Plus with square enix bringing out the FF games onto xbox it would be a great achievement for xbox and I for one would go and buy it rather than a ff7 spin off/ remake.

I think Final Fantasy VIII is the only second or third FF title that I ever enjoyed after the series debut on a new platform. I guess thats part of the reason I'm excited about XIII as usually the intial release ends up being the best Final Fantasy for that generation.

This was never meant to be a full game. It was meant to be a tech demo. By the time the ps2 had come out, FF8 was the most recent FF game to be released, and BY FAR the best looking. If anything, it was a hint that the FF series would eventually be continued on the ps2.

Each Final fantasy game has a different story and characters. The only exception is the FF 7 compilation and FF 10-2, the only direct sequal. Each game consists of on going elements, such as monsters, chocobos, and magic. I find them to be exceptional RPG's and enjoyed each one. The first 6 are really fun, but most players start at 7 and go up because of the graphics and they are easier to find. The first 6 are usualy put on handheld systems these days.7-9 are on Pslaystation 1, 10-12 are on PS2

However when they were put on Wonderswan they were remade to be 16 bit, later they were ported from Wonderswan to PS1 and GBA, then further enhanced for the PSP remakes

FF8 was the story that took my heart the most as well. That is until FFX came out, but I find them both to be on par with one another. 2 well crafted titles worthy to carry the name Final Fantasy. I'm not dissing the others by anymeans, 7 was great, 9 was ok, just 8 and 10 were and prolly will remain my favorites as far as the story lines and characters go. Kudos my friend!!

after they finish a ff7 remake, ff8 would probably be next on their list.
you should be familiar with the trend. FF1-FF4 had seen their remakes so logic states that 5 and 6 would be next on their agenda. after that 7, then 8. but it wouldn't arrive until 10-20 yrs from now.
