I really like this song, it has such a good feel to it. I've always been a Beach Boys fan but do not remember the name of Jeffrey Foskett. Maybe I knew it 40 years ago. Lovely harmony and sentiments.
A masterful J.F. song here. AND - to YOU ALL who've offered up comments, directly below- my god, I have honestly never before come across such a CONSISTENTLY high-calibre collective QUALITY of commentary on one page. My heart-felt congratulations to you all, on your advanced erudition & insightfulness -not only about Brian, my 'til-I-die' IDOL of course .. but about Jeff, Carl, Melinda, BW's children, and that creep Landy. I saw BW & his awesome band in Sydney, Aust, 2005 & also 07, he's A-OK !
I do recall seeing Brian in concert in those days...smoking heavily, sitting at the piano looking off into space mostly. Amazing difference with how he is these days. Alert, pretty energetic for a 66 year old guy. I think he was too heavily drugged out in those days..he takes prescription medication now, as I am sure you know, but obviously under much closer medical care. Looking forward to seeing him again next month. I never got / get tired seeing Brian or the BBs ( old days ). Enjoy.
Actually, I met Jeff F. a while back when Brian was doing one of his shows at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. Jeff was with his fiance, now wife. Nice guy. I always thought that Carl had the best pure voice in the band and loved seeing him sing during the old BB shows of decades ago. But Jeff does have that falsetto down like the old Brian.
I can't help but wonder how much cigarettes and a rumoured stroke have altered Brian's voice. I agree with you though Carl was the Beach Boys hands down. It still hurts to this day to hear that voice and know he's gone.
Brian's voice probably was at its worst on the "Love You" album but has improved alot in recent years. Carl was a smoker from the age of 14 but it never took quite a toll on his voice. I am not so sure that Brian ever had a stroke although rumors persist. He admittedly takes considerable medication daily that may take its toll. His new album, Lucky Old Sun, has some nice stuff on it. Hopefully, I will catch his concert in NYC on 11-21. Something about seeing Brian live keeps me young
Still play the live from the Roxy CD set and Imagination is still my favorite studio release from Brian. I Just Wasn't made for These Times still gets a play once in a while too. Have not seen Brian live in any format since about 83 or so and the Landy effect was still apparent. When he goes that will just about close the book on the California sound as far as I am concerned. I am glad Jeff is keeping the summer alive. (Sorry had to do it)
Landy really did a job on Brian, didn't he ? Brian seems to have found happiness, ( finally ? ) with Melinda and his 3 young kids. He deserves it. I always found it ironic how Brian would often sit stoically at concerts at the piano, seemingly unaware of th joy he brought to all the folks in the audience. Maybe now, he finally gets to walk along Long Promised Road.
I've always liked that song and with Feel Flows are probably my favorite Carl tunes. LPR was probably the best Brian, Carl, and Jack Rielly collaboration during the 70's. I recall in Anaheim in 76, Brian had to be helped on and off the stage. He had to be close to 350lbs. He looked out of it then too.
Thanks for this Terry. You really did a great job on this production. I've never heard this song before, so I'm hearing this for the first time and I'm really enjoying it. Great song!
colind you over analyzed the song...the lyrics are a lament to things that seemed so much a part of one's life and why did they suddenly change....when you graduated from high school we all thought life would still be the same...it wasn't and won't...
Given that Jeffrey is a key member of Brian Wilson's fabulous 11-piece touring band right throughout the New Millennium, I am compelled to say that I find this song by Foskett to be most strange, and even somewhat maudlin & vexacious. I just find it difficult to connect to; and the lyrics are a little too much on the negative side for my liking. Maybe some of Jeff's other work is more impressive. I must admit - I've yet to get into him & all of his musical works, in any kind of depth so far.
I have a CD of songs influenced by the Beach Boys released on Varese around 2000. There's a really great song on this CD called "Through My Window" by this guy. It's made me want to hear more by him, but I never went searching for anything more of his. This song is OK but not as super as that other one. In Nov. 2005, Brian Wilson appeared on Jay Leno's show with Neil Diamond and some unidentified male singers, and I later learned that Jeffrey Foskett was one of them.
You really need to get this CD. It has an acapella version of Neil Sedaka's Laughter in the Rain, I live for the Sun that Jeff often does live. It also has Through My Window which sounds very "Pet Sounds"-like and is a great cut. To me there is only maybe two songs that are so-so.
so glad to see Jeff a part of the Beach Boys 2012 reunion

I love Jeff's stuff.
Then again I've been a life long BB fan too.
But the man can perform the same genre so good.

Jeff was in the Beach Boys concert "band" and has been a big part of Brian's resurgence in mainstream rock today.

unless i'm wrong Bill Lloyd wrote this song...Jeff is one of my heroes, but credit where credit's due. right?

Many writers write songs but I guess Jeff's rendition makes it his song. I think that's what colindominy was saying.

Sometimes i feel so "old" -even iam only 22 with true memorys of maybe 10 years. So how am i gonna feel when iam 40 or 60?

It's not so bad really until your face catches up with the reality of the actual age. Then it truly is an eye opener.
