Considering what passed for 'pop' in those days-(Herman's Hermits, Beatles) Floyd was something like metal to them, they just didn't know what to call it. This song even prior-arts the 'black sabbath chord' (root, 5th, diminished 5th) listen closely at 1:18 in this file. There are also other cuts on tpatgod that rival 'Purple imho. (e.g. interstellar overdrive)
