Donnie Darko is in my opinion the best. Better than Pulp Fiction or Requiem or anything. It doesn't make sense or contain everything you need to understand it completely but that doesn't matter to me because the sci-fi stuff is only 3% of it. It's so beautiful. I love the human sweetness of it. It's like an enchanted world. And the sountrack is amazing. That film connected with me, I love the way it made me feel. I also loved "Lost and Delirious" which absolutely ripped my guts out.
I didnt see the movie Southland Tales or The Box. They both look like peices of shit. I loved Donnie Darko and I think that everyone tried to force themeselves to like Southland Tales because they had the same director. I cant see why else you would like or watch a shitty movie like Southland Tales. I thought your video was great. Fuck all those haters who are dissing the video.
In fact, we should all take dumps and send them to his home so he can look at our CRAP for a change. And he can view them for free, our gift to him. I think Richard would like that. :)
She's right, with all the resources this guy has available to him there's no excuse for all the CRAP movies he's been delivering to the public. He either needs his film making membership revoked or be banished to a non inhabited island where only he can watch the CRAP he makes. If you must watch his films, find a way to do it for free and use the money you would have spent on a hamburger instead. People shouldn't be paid to make a piece of CRAP every couple of years.
I also didn't care for/disliked the Box. It was fantastically contrived and not in a good way. I really don't see how someone pushing a button can lead to a random wife DECIDING to shoot their husband. It makes no sense.
I couldn't get through Southland Tales. I know there's clever commentary he's inserting into it but I just don't care to find it out.
Favorite movies: Leon the Professional. Donnie Darko. Mulholland Drive. Audition. Memento Mori(<---very flawed but there's redeeming factors).
The reason "I am legend" sucked so much is that they had to change it due to stupid people who can't understand meaningful plots and just liek explosions, the oringal plot was for the zombie to come in, take their fellow zombie that will smith was expiramenting on, and just leave him alive, to show that he was the monster. But modern culture can't take that.
Southland Tales is a symbolic, metaphorical masterpiece. It's a representation of American fear and politics (hence the insanity) Dont insult something you can't interpret you stupid naive bitch.
oh this is cute ;) I'll have you know I have both Southland Tales and The Box on blu ray. I find them both to be well acted (with the exception of Sarah Michelle Gellar, she is truly useless) and thought provoking. great music too. some people can enjoy films as an "experience" and don't require conventional plots (like with EVERY film Chris Nolan did after Memento). I bet you would hate Eraserhead and El Topo too. anyway, you're pretentious. and your videos are absurdly boring. good day.
@Kethizzle I love Chris Nolan and David Lynch and calling me pretentious for not liking the MOST PRETENTIOUS MOVIE of all time means YOU need to read a dictionary. YOU have a nice day :)
I won't deny that Southland Tales gets a bit unfocused at times and may be confusing when you first watch it but A METRIC TON of Richard Kelly's talent and imagination come through as well. It is pretty messy, yes, but miles better than most of the unimaginative, cookie-cutter garbage that is released these days. I don't see how you could consider it the worst film ever.
honestly, Southland Tales is amazing. i watched it on Netflix and i give it a 9/10. the amount of detail is incredible. it's funny (intentionally, no accidentally). it is NOT necessary to read the graphic novel first. shit, Kelly had to read Revelations (probably the hardest book in the Bible to read) and managed to come up with symbolism for EVERYTHING (you just need to look closely). i'm going to BUY Southland Tales and The Box because Kelly is unique. PS there are no aliens in the Box.
@ImaginarySam you liked southland tales and think it's deep, you are fuck fuck shitty shitty, also way to be a misogynist!!!!! hope your eyes bleed and you shit from your fingertips
first of all, i am not a misogynist and none of my words imply that. and there's no need to try and be fancy. just say sexist. also i'd like to point out it is not and never will it ever be possible for one to shit from their fingertips. you're entitled to your opinion, but this video is not a review for any movie or an opinion, its you bashing on Richard Kelly. you try to sound sophisticated but really its just excessive whining. a 5 year old can make a video talking shit.
@imagesfromapoet Southland Tales is trying many things but "deep"is not one of them. It's an absurd satire of American Culture in style of someone like Thomas Pynchon.
i understand words just fine. i interpreted what you said as "if you don't have a big budget, your movie won't be as good as a movie with a big budget?"
Something I just realised about what you said about the box, maybe the whole wife pressing the button thing, is a poor attempt to reference original sin.. You know, Eve, temptation, the apple. Kinda lame, but eh
I wanted to like southland tales, but your right, god, it was horrible... I love Donnie Darko tho, I thought it was amazing, and find new things every time I watch it.. A movie is good when you can watch it again and see new things in it :)
She's right 'Southland Tales' is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I watched it last night and went to bed irritated that a movie could be so contrived and yet still so incoherent!
I liked The Box as a SciFi mystery. Not deep, like you said, just people getting controlled by aliens and probably going to alien paradise or something like that xD. I liked the concept, basically, and the acting wasn't bad compared to recent big movies. The Box was okay to me.
@CaramelDancen Like that Nick Cage movie? (sorry, wasn't sure if I gave the name it would spoil it for others - although it's pretty dire so it'd probably save them from having to waste 2hrs of their lives)
When I first heard about S.Darko I figured Richard Kelly doesn't own the rights to Donnie Darko anymore and someone wanted to make money off of it but that he's actually involved in that terrible sequel.. still I have to give him credit for making Donnie Darko though, no matter how many terrible movies he'll make.
I love Donnie Darrko but I have to agree with you on all accounts. Especially Southland Tales. I bought S. Darko for 5 bucks from Blockbuster used and completely hated it.
God, I got roped into watching The Box. What a confusing piece of rubbish. I LOVED Donnie Darko, but yeah The Box was horrible. Just watching it had induced a head ache.
I saw Donnie Darko when I was young, and fell in love with it. I was excited to see S.Darko when it came out, and was very disappointed. I withstood it, and liked some of the scenery and concept but all in all it was crap as you mentioned. I don't see any connection to Donnie in this movie, and I don't understand why there is a random bird. I'd like to hear you opinions on the flaws int his movie, Sam. :o
I was literally just reading up on The Box this morning trying to decide if it would be worth watching or not. I might just avoid it now. Also, I'm shocked someone besides me as actually seen S. Darko. Worthless movie.
@Deafinition it's really that bad. and I watched S. Darko because I thought it might be ok but there was a huge fucking flaw that was so bad that I couldn't handle it--so in the first movie, the trails meant where you were going, but in the 2nd one of the trails snaked up that cross.....fuck continuity I guess!
"The Box". Better twist would have been that the wife has a miscarriage, because technically a foetus is someone you don't really know, as alive as you believe it to be. (Really hoping not to spark a discussion on abortion, etc.)
@Deckof51 in the original story, the husband dies, and the wife is like why him? and the guy says "do you think you really knew your husband?" which is pretty awesome
See, now you explain it - Yes it is. You could have gone with the secrets and lies before she pushes the button if you wanted a psudo-detective story, or done it backwards and had her push the button without thinking, getting the line about "Did you really think you knew your husband?" and have her investigate into a mistress or a secret family.
But I'm a morbid child hater - Miscarriages for all!
I got bored by Donnie Darko. It just found it to be very dull for no real reason, and people wouldn't shut up about it which pissed me off even more.
The only thing about Southland Tales I liked was Kevin Smith. I'm a huge fan of his - actor, personality, or director - As much as an asshole as he might be/seems to be reported to be personally.
Don't attack things that you don't understand because you just sound ignorant.

Uwe Boll? really?
you're credibility was low to begin with judging solely from the title of this video. it slowly spirals down. then you get to Uwe Boll?
holy shit.
PS again, it is sooooooooo gross when women curse especially repetitively and unnecessarily. fuck fuck fuck shitty shitty.
see how unintelligent that makes me look.
expand your vocabulary a little bit.

sorry, but i can't take you seriously.
you said basically if you don't have a big budget, your movie won't be as good as a movie with a big budget?
that is just straight up foolish.
Christopher Nolan made Following with like $6,000. great movie.
Memento was made with 9 million (pocket change for Steven Spielberg). amazing movie.
Michael Bay made Transformers 2 with 200 MILLION dollars (shitty movie)
see what i'm getting at?....
