  • heyyyyy Tigrinya alewom diyom ab Ohio? Mashallah! Wesedina belu.

  • I speak a little my dad if from Eritrea

  • Hey good job!

  • my dad speaks tigrinya and hes from eritrea

  • I like how he is interested in the tigrinya language bcuz i am also tigray. And yes it is spoken in eritrea and in ethiopia but it originated from ethiopia. And also a little hint the ancient language is pronounced g ez.

  • so cool I want to learn more about this program! @ismailalam how can i learn more about this program? esp. studying east afr historical documents etc

  • it makes me so happy to know as an eritrean that this fine white man can go learn my language and then come to my country to conduct his "substantial" research on "human subjects"!!!! overjoyed!

  • wow u translate dokuments that must be very hard

  • Ancient "Geese" ? lol, Try again boi.

  • its sounds like arabic/somali..

  • @somrazy3 All Afro-Asiatic languages :D. I'm kinda confused a little cause Arabic and Tigrinya and Amharic and Tigray are Semitic but Somalian does sound like its more related than it is (Cushitic - or maybe all Cushitic languages sound related - or maybe cause its East Cushtic - or maybe the sounds and etc influenced each other since they are in proximity).

  • Haha ewee ur tigrinya is so cuite !

  • I am curious as to whom is teaching the Tigrinya language at your University? Is this professor Eritrean, or has he/she learned the language from an Eritrean?

  • @DaniB0626 I'm kinda curious now too. If they are Eritrean they really taught you well, but if not then your teacher must be a real pro!

  • lol im ethiopian and i cant even speak that shit ...shame on me i guess but then again there are million of languages in ethiopia so im good

  • @dazebhen1 fudge you... i am ten years old from eritrea and i speak it

  • @TheMakinsense101 thats because u are eritrean....and tigriga is not the official language of ethiopiaso i am not expected to know

  • @TheMakinsense101 learn me! i live in holland but my mom is from eritrea so we are going to asmara in the summer en i want to speak with my grandmother....

  • interesting.

  • i feel like i know you from somewhere . . . . ramapo college?

  • i am canadian but my parents are eritrean i am trying to learn tigrena he inspiared good luck for your study

  • eeeeewwwwiii tsada sebaye

  • The region in Ethiopia the young man is referring to is actually the Tigrai region of Ethiopia pronounced TIG-RYE. Unfortunately, it's sometimes spelled Tigre. Tigre, pronounced with a short 'i' and accent aigu on the 'e', is an Eritrean ethnic group that speaks TIGRE, not tigrinya. Honest mistake, though.

If you went to Eritrea, your pronunciation would improve. --Gual Ere.

  • @XxRomanov93xX ur still a taliban who hides his face in the video that u recorded yo self..... disgrace to all ricans

  • @XxRomanov93xXand why u hding yo face when u speaking taliban pussy as muthfuka dont even goot the guts to fuckin be brave

  • @XxRomanov93xX oh yea u got blacks in yo fam ight its funny u live in south east daygo .. pimpin i live in the east side so wuttz good lets catch that fade over the east side btich come over here and talk that shit wassup now muthfuka .... tryin talk shit baout my ppl u cant talk yo alkeda ass salma alukyum muslim speaking shit out of here fuckin arbain nigga

  • @XxRomanov93xX ur dum ass fuck udnk wut ur saying.. wut are u is the question are u jealous u dont have negro blood in u its fuuny how ppl didnt like being black/ African back in the day now everybody wanna be one of us lol.. eriterians are liek a gumbo pile genetical mixxtures of gereek romans, protguese some arabic races and italians big time..

  • @XxRomanov93xX

Of course. You know nothing. You can only mention unnamed "science" and some deragotary words spoken poorly. Let me guess, Mathilda? LOL! You are a joke. Leave Africa and African people be. You cannot and never will define us.

  • @XxRomanov93xX

You geneology is backwards and you know nothing of the origins or the arabic language. Languages like Tigrigna is the mother and that "genetic marker" was carried by people who look like them and given to your pale brethren, arab or not.

What makes you think you can speak for millions of people you are not related to and know nothing about? What is a "black negroid"?

  • @XxRomanov93xX

Wrong on both counts. I am simply one who does not tolerate lies and ignorance. I support the truth and apparently the truth is a waste of time to you.

    Salam.

  • @XxRomanov93xX

Apparently you have never known nor know nothing of the people that inhabit the country now known as Eritrea, nor their history. The man is a WHITE man named Joseph Greenberg who used references to the bible to come up with that arbitrary linguistic term.

People who speak Tigrigna are AFRICAN BLACK PEOPLE. The so-called "semetic" language comes from AFRICAN BLACK PEOPLE of the horn and Yemen.

Try to meet one before espousing your ignorance so loudly.

  • @XxRomanov93xX

Tigrinya is spoken in Eritrea. Eritrea is in Africa. The people of Eritrea come from all over that part of Africa and no where else.

Tigrinya is an African language. "Semetic" is a term made up by some man you do not even know.

  • That is outstanding Joe! Keep it up brother. LOL, And your accent is on the money.

    Sincerely,

    Filmon

  • Sooo cute!!!!

  • it's wierd that an american know better tigrinya them me.

    But why tigrinya?

  • Eritrea doesn't have an official language.

  • wow thats really great..salaam!..im very proud

  • Mesgun tsubuk tigrinya teserab alaha!

  • hey , i guess you can say kemai aleka since you are doing you tigrigna laguage study is mostly Eritreans', i believe thats how they say when they speak in front of an audience in Eritreans. anyway keep learning! .

  • well just to correct you, u said " kemei aleka" it literally means, "how you are you" to a signle person(male) , so the right way to say it is " kemei alekum"! that means how are you, to everybody without specifying any Genders , but sometimes we say "kemai alekum" to elderly(male) people to pay our respect. maybei should be your teacher :).

  • u are so goooooooooooooooood zubuk :DDDD coooool hahah xD

  • Is there any way I can get in touch with you, I am interested in learning this language and about its people. Post a comment if I can write you.

  • that's was awsome.

  • I love that u tryin, ad'yokha!

  • it would make sense to study Amharic as oppose to Tigrina, considering how Amharic dominated and shaped every aspect of that region. then again the guy is a P.H.D student so one has to assume that he know what he's doing.

  • @mike7743 Tegrinja was the main language in East Africa after geez spoken by the people. And Amharinja was only for the king not for the people. So actually Tigrinja have big influence in Amharinja

  • @nakfa

    uhm, Wrong, try again.

  • you forgot Amharic

  • tigrigna was there already before the misspelled tigrigna labeled geez - very important

  • for semitic is big yeah but if you compare with han or another launguages is small.

  • whwhy he is speaking tigrinya

    tigrinya is a small language

    9 million speaker

  • 9,000,000 is not small language

  • u r sooo cute mr. salam

  • I wonder which type of political documents written in tigrinya he's trying to translate, and why they haven't already been translated into English by those who already speak both English and Tigrinya

  • haha lol, do you know how old tigrinja is smartboy. politic doc. is not only in the modern day 30 40 years but also a mid and long history. Tiginja political history is longer in Africa and middeleast after Arabic and Heberw.

  • Joe:

That is really great. I am proud of you to find this clip on youtube. Thank you for your effort. I would be a nice idea to post again a new clip sincce your Tigriniya is way better than most of us.

    Best,

    Semira

  • Aw keep up the good work Weday

  • omg, that was really good, and his accents wasn't as bad as mine.. lol.. great job.

  • Ye3enyelay, Salaam,

Brilliant, if it was up to me all universities would learn tigrinya

  • bravo!!

  • Good Job bro, keep it up . try to go to Eritean or Ethiopian ristorante and order ur meal in Tigrigna . Ajoha ! Ajoha ! meaning Carry- on .

  • ere ere...

    :)

  • Wooooo! His accent is excellent!

They teach Amharic as BA Degree in London, UK at SOAS.

  • Wow! Good job!

  • i wish most people can be more open mind, than close mind for any thing, good luck white man and good job

  • I'm truly blown away with this news - Tigringna being in taught in a US university is by the oddest thing I have come across in Tube world. Though I live and associate myself with NYC, I can't express how much i appreciate my native language now after watching this. All the best to you and all others taking the language. It really isn't easy unless you are born with it.

  • oh WOW!!! very nice

  • Good for a foreigner. Pronunciation and knowledge could be increased though. Keep it up though.

  • very good job Jovanos!!!

  • Kudos! But after three years you still can't pronounce the word "Tigrinya"? Good job, though? :]

  • jettssolo, Tigrinia is a more complex language than you think. You seem not to know the language well. you should encourage instead of mock for those who venture out of their linguistic element. even you it took three years to develope your tigrinia as a baby. Think of it that way. they are learning as a baby would. leave the comments to linguistic experts and retain your negative commments.

  • Oh No He De'ent! Elelelelelelelelelelelelelelelle

    Anta Americawit!

  • cute guy!

  • i agree :)

  • You ought to be proud! I wish the university of Las Vegas taught Tigrinya. You're so lucky.

  • yeah i wish there was one here in toronto i lost the language along time ago

  • I know right?! I lost most of my language after two months in pre-school XD!!! hahaha!

man I suck. I need to brush up on meh skillz.

  • very impessive, its so funny white people talk in tigrinia lol

  • He did really good though!!!

  • There is nothing funny about that.

  • way ke tsubukk natay stahdah howay

  • hahahha

  • can someone help me out, im ethiopian and i dont even know how to speak amharic/amarignia and i want to lear, my parents always speak to me in english cuz there used to it, so what should i do im only 17. should i listen to more amharic music and watch amharic shows and movies or what, plz help me out i reall wanna know how to speak my own language

  • im an eritrean. I was born in the states.

I learned my language when i was young.

    Ways to learn your language?

If your community is tight nit......... Then go to your church and sit in sunday school ... thats what i did.

Im not rich, but i saved up my sophmore year in highschool and went back to my country eritrea where i was drowned in the language, made friends and since i hung out with them, i found out how to speak it. Now im fluent and have an accent. Good luck and hit me up

    -1

  • my community wont help cuz they speak english to the kids and amharic to one another, but going back to ethiopia would be a good idea, im thinking of doing that some time, thanks

  • Tigrinya and Amharic have almost the same alphabet too! You should learn fidel script, it helps! It's really easy too, because the letters represent sounds only, and it's just memorization. I have this book from bebu school (that's what we called it XD) so I can just look in there, but there are online stuffs too. You can use it for english too, if it helps...(?)

    ^_^

  • watch ethiopean movies and especially comedies with subtitles. I'm eritrean born in the states and i understand everything i hear but my speech is broken. oh yeah, tell your parents to speak to you in amharic...i think they'll be happy to help.

  • i try to watch ethiopian movies, but its hard to get a hold of the ones with subtitles, and the thing about my parents is that amharic is not our native toung, harari is but i prefer to learn the official official language amharic first, so my parents are no help, sometimes though when they feel like it, thanks though bud

  • I'm raising my kids in my country for at least 11 years before I consider moving back to America. I'll have to learn to though.

  • Keep on researching dude.

  • stibuk aleku, isika nay behakee ambassa eeka!!! I was shocked when I heard the intro, your good!! egziabher higizeka zehowey (may god guide you brother) Beruke ma'alti!

  • dude - i think it's awesome that you're studying an African Semitic language, and even cooler that it's Tigrinya, but as a PhD student in Tigrinya, you really ought to know how to correctly pronounce 'Ge'ez'...it's not like ghee (Indian clarified butter) with a 'z' on the end...

  • damn I am ashamed I am from ethiopia and I cant speak my own language

  • That was trippy!!!

  • oh wow.... dat was hell weird

i've never seen a non habesh speak tigrinya....

    gud job tho

  • Joe, Sam saw the video and told me to watch it. I am so proud of you. I see from the comments that people like it too so if possible you know how about more.

  • Tegrigna has more than ten million speakers both in Ethiopia (Tegray) and Eritrea. The student has to make the needed correction. There are more Tegrigna speakers in (Tegray)Ethiopia than the entire artera..Oppsss what did I do?

  • what did you do? I don't think anyone denies it.

  • Nice job! I've heard of this Eritrean professor who teaches the course at Ohio University. I'd like to send a thank you specifically to the professor! Reach one teach one.
