@FenrirLupus I agree. Sold the Jazzmaster about 12 years ago for almost twice what I paid for it simply because it was built before CBS bought out Fender.
old reverb tanks that fender used to make (still do in reissue) . You cannot get that sound without a tube reverb tank. The brown face 62 Showman helps too.

Some of your socalled Guitar players of elite think of this as garbage, lol most of them cannot even play a 12 bar blues. This stuff is harder to play than it looks.I would rather listen to this than Eddie Van I copied everyone in so cal that did not make including me.I was doing Hammers before Eddi Van Fuck was born.Jeff Beck showed me how to do them which explains why Eddie followed me around the whole SoCal circuit.I turned my back to the audience when he was watching me.
Mosrite neck was so perfect you only had to touch string for it to contact fret instead of pressing and made it so easy to play. Couldn't duplicate that feel on my Jazzmaster no matter how I adjusted it. Mosrites from that period go for about 10 times what they sold for if you can find one.Ventures got a lot of people playing guitar with their "how to play guitar" courses.I love how they just bang away on songs without all the facial expressions and jumping around like today.True professionals.
I learned how to play pipeline off one of the Ventures how to play albums in the 69s. Of course I was doing it on my dad's archtop. Didn't have quite the same sound as the mosrites :)
@lesvance01 My 1st amp was a Magnavox Console tube stereo through auxiliary plug. Then a big Silvertone and finally a transistor Vox Buckingham. The Vox would override once you pushed it and wound up plugging it into Silvertone and splitting into both speaker cabinets. I didn't know back then to bypass overrides. Memories, right?
OMG! I used to USE Score® - clear hair cream! I used it on my "Flat top with Fenders" haricut back in the early sixties. Anybody remember THAT style? LMOAO !
The Ventures stand at the top of the pile of great instrumental/surf bands. They did so many great tunes of their own as well as improved cover versions of others songs.
Nokie Edwards as multi talented as he is has got to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and Mel Taylor a timeless drummer as well. The Ventures are great musicians, although covering many songs, they are original having their distinct sound.
Hi ricbeach, thanks for one of my favourites of Ventures - The Diamond Head. By any chance can you locate and upload the title song of the movie 'Carnival of Thieves' by Ventures? This is an early 60's movie.
Ah, the wonderful sound of a Mosrite Ventures' Model guitar. I have a 66' bass in three color sunburst. Great playing guitars. I have a video of me playing the Mosrite on my page.
