Dang. GM made an Olds back in '57? I wish GM didn't discontinue the Oldsmobiles. That type of car and Buick cars last a lot longer than Chrystler cars, Ford cars, foreign cars, and sometimes, GMC, and Chevy, but Pontiac (discontinued in 2008) is a great car.
Jesus had the only automobile in His time, a great big aqua blue Oldsmoblile 88, with lots of surface rust from His jaunts to the salty Dead Sea. He would ride through town at irresponsible speeds, taunting prostitutes & playing Johnny Cash on his 8 track tape deck. The Pharisees would curse him, the working men would shake their fists, & the women would swoon… Jesus had two things hanging from His rear-view mirror: a picture of James Dean, & a wineskin full of red wine. He wuz da man!
I looked out the 8th story of my dorm window one fall day in 1974...below in the circle drive was a 57 super 88 4dr blk with blk and white interior..89k...found who owned her by sitting on the curb till they returned. Stayed after them till they sold it to me for 200.00...my college days were made by having this car...nights of driving throught the NC mountains listening to Ft Wayne, Id radio oldies and the lights from that beautiful dash...oh how I wish I still had her......
Very nicely done. What a great car. I had a friend with a Super 88, in two-tone grey. Were the fender skirts a factory option, or after-market? I think they really add to the car's appearance.
the super 88 had a 98 engine with 277 hp; slightly larger bore 4 bbl. carberator and some minor ext. and int. trim were the differences. the '57 super 88 outfitted in stock accessories would outperform a '57 chevy 283 ''power pack'' option with their 4 bbl. equipped 283. supposedly it had 1 hp per cubic inch making it 283/283. my dad and his friend who had the chevy decided to put them to the test and that was true, in spite of the heavier olds.
I used to have one!!! It was a Super-88, and the same color. Mine had power windows and the J-2 but not the fender skirts. The top was originally blue. I had put a white top on but had plans to change it back to blue when a long period of unemployment forced me to sell it. Won a couple blue ribbons at Olds club meets with it.

Nice. I can see some similarity between the front end of this car, and my 1998 88 LS. The big oval is still there.

One of the most beautiful cars of that era! I'd love to have one in two-tone white over black.
