  • The first few moments of the album sounds like Tool Third Eye and I wont be surprised if they sampled it.

  • Sure, Cynic are metal, but they have a lot of jazz and fusion influence. You mosh to metal, but you groove to jazz and fusion. With Cynic, I like to meet in the middle. That is, I would rather stand at the fron, mind my own business, and just fucking nod/bang my head to them. Then again, I don't push people around for any band. I'm certainly no hippy, I just don't care for moshing.

That being said, don't judge people because they don't do what you like. Shut the fuck up do your own thing.

  • @m0eDr3adzz Oh my God, shut the fuck up. You're not better than anyone because of your taste in music; stop acting like such an elitist prick. It's embarrassing for the rest of us who listen to this music.

  • This should be track 1 not 8. You need to swap it with Nunc Stans. :)

  • One thing that I've realized about Cynic is that their songs, all of them, have the uncanny ability to make the listener feel very, very, small.

  • i went to a cynic concert and tried starting a mosh pit but all the hippy pussies werent taking into it. CYNIC IS METAL!!! go see phish if you dont want to mosh!!

  • @tomistomasinensis what the fuck? anybody who would mosh to cynic would look like a fucking dumbass.

  • @tomistomasinensis You would mosh to this song? -sigh-

  • @WhySoBass No not this song, Focus stuff. But your right, after all why would I want to break a nail or bruise my ovaries like you guys?

  • @tomistomasinensis You are a very sad little boy.

  • there are no words. in a good way

  • @m0eDr3adzz exactly. there's the optimism. See, the universe just rewards you for having a good taste in music by giving you cheap concert tickets and a deeper musical experience. haha

  • In a way I'm glad that they are under rated. this sound I would greedily keep for myself.

  • I would certainly call this prog rock or prog metal and technical. in what way to "death metal" or jazz apply to this? Not a criticism, i just want to learn more about the way genres are defined. people who say categorizing music is dumb are themselves dumb imo.

  • @jsteele07189 I think the jazz label comes from the degree of syncopation the rhythm section employs - particularly in Sean Reinert's drumming. This is probably more obvious on their first CD Focus. There's also a good amount of tension and dissonance in the chords used, which I'm sure also contributes.

  • @SymphonyX3000 hmm, yeah i can see that. I think i just need to listen to more of their stuff.

  • Death is way better

  • boring and pretentious

  • @Residentevilgal Quote from your profile: "i like to say things that are offensive and make NO sense!"

better response to your comment then anything I could say

  • @TheHideousRevelation I don't see why no one has found this reply to be as funny as I have within seven months! Or at least commented about it... That's classic.

  • @TheWolfpack666 Haha, thank you! Even I forgot about I wrote here...

  • The fuck does he say at 0:09

    i love it

  • @inkbullets I think he say "We raise the vibratory level".

  • The ending is so bad ass!!!! That 13/8 shit!!! AWWWW YYEYEEAAAAA

  • Cynic fans stay true. It should be main stream but its way more metal that its not!

Some people just dont get how good cynic is. They just like your basic, not put together well hardcore of screamo shit.

  • @DSDshenanigans I can think of a million reasons why cynic, and hundreds of other bands shouldn't be mainstream. The money can go to their heads causing them to not produce fucking amazing music. Posers'll start listening to it...damn scene kids. They would have to change their style to make it more mainstream friendly. The fact that this music isn't popular is what makes it so great. Metal fans should be appreciative of that!

  • @falige amen brother!!

  • @falige Under no circumstances will cynic ever change their sound to become more acceptable by the mainstream.

  • Paul Masvidal, lead singer/songwriter of Cynic is an amazing talent. His music is beautiful and haunting, like from another world.

  • I'm seeing Cynic in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre on July 22nd...where they're starting a US headlining tour!!!!

  • One of the best albums of all time.

I want more of them :D

  • Cynic starts a US headlining tour July 2010. Gonna be awesome. And I got their new ep Re-Traced, it's great. Can't wait for the US tour!

  • i could see how some people say it sounds like tool, i mean, its choatic as hell, and as far as drums, there is alot of tom use going on and not so much on cymbals, and it sounds like a ton of timing shifts, which is something tool does alot. however i pretty much doubt either band derives any influence from the other.

  • I always thought Reinert was a little like Carey.

    Plus incredible doublebass.

But no, they aren't much like tool at all.

  • it sounds like triad lol by tool

  • why cant you like tool and cynic at the same time

  • I´m going to see them tomorrow in mexico city with municipal waste!!! its going to be fucking awsome yeah!!!

    Cynic is awsome

  • hahaha

    awevo man estubo bien chingon

    la banda pornogorera hahahahahahaha

  • Aguevooooo!!!! ese fue un concierto y no mamadas

  • Cynic are amazing!! But I can't find this album!!!

  • @ ungrats tool rocks and daney carey is the master of poly rtyhms and time signature changes. His actual drumming is very creative as well. Tool does not sound like Cynic but they both rock!

  • i go where my ears lead me. and for almost 17 years of my life they have lead me well. go cynic.

  • Cynic are underated. but it is really about time they got some recognition that they deserve, for thei excellent material. This band may not be as popular as DT or tool, but five years from now,you may find them touring together.its not like i can tell the future or anything.its just a matter of finding awesome music;)

  • Cynic is a very underrated band. They deserve a wider audience.

  • SO underated

  • @PanzerTank521 The same can be said for most progrock bands. Ever hear of Rishloo? It goes with the genre.

  • @PanzerTank521 They must earn it..

  • @PanzerTank521 amen to that!

  • @PanzerTank521

    True.

They would have had a wider audience if Paul, Sean & Sean didn't release all their albums under 5 diffrent bands...

  • no man tool are the poster boys of progressive music i like both bands and both bands have sick ass drummers this sounds nothing like tool its just different if you think danny carey sucks than you obliviously know nothing about music or drumming

  • you motherfucking piece of shit....when cynic existed tool were palying teir dick.......read the history asshole or don't speak....

  • Comment removed

  • @nikossofis they only started like 3 years before Tool and Tool has more material out lol

  • @TheDallyLama Well, that's also because Cynic broke up pretty much right after Focus came out, and only reformed in like 2006.

  • I disagree it sounding like Tool. They sounds quite different to Tool. Haven't heard anything close to Cynic.

  • i dont think they sound like tool but the beginning of this song, before they start singing, i think it sounds a lot like triad by tool

  • look people! tool released opiate in 92/cynic released focus in 93/ both from same era however cynic did not put out an album again until 2008/i am saying influence!! not sounds like!!. there is a difference.

  • levenorion? same era? what are you talking about???

Cynic is from the Florida death metal scene, tool is from LA....

Sean and Paul worked with a guy named Chuck Schuldiner (kind of an important person in metal... he made the band Death, if you heard of them) on an album called "Human" which was 1991...

tool is fine, i like D's work and all...,but to claim like an authority stating Cynic learned a thing from them. not only do i not hear it, the history just says otherwise

  • I find it funny that my favourite riff on the whole cd is at the end of this song :P. I just think it's great.

  • Levenorion-

I hope you know that Cynic came around way before Tool.

  • dude get your facts straight before you go spreading the ignorance...

  • @ForgetaboutFreeman nice post, i 100% agree

  • still i dont understand how friendly discussion turns into a pissing match

  • no resorting to rape is always the best

  • pure phylosophy

  • Omg you must have Downs Syndrome. I'm so sorry.

  • lmfao. How could you possibly have thought I was being serious? You guys fail. xD

  • why do people have an argumant on youtube

  • Tool :)

  • sounds a lot like Tool, awesome

  • exactly my first thought

  • If Tool had actual musical talent, maybe

  • why do you say that? i sort of agree with you with their guitarists but i think collectively as a band they make great music

  • are you kidding me? tool having no musical talent? you're a moron

  • I'M a moron? I'm not the one who likes pussy, no-talent Tool. I can groan into a microphone over a simple, repetitive beat for ten minutes too, does that make me a "musical genius"?

  • have you ever listened to a 10,000 Days or Lateralus all the way through?

  • oh really? and you can play like Cynic´s drummer or better that Danny Carey from Tool too?maybe you can play even better cause they just plays "repetitive beats", so then show us a video of your musical talent, genius!!

  • Sean Reinert is sick, and I never said otherwise. Danny Carey does fucking suck, though. Buy me a webcam and I'd love to show you how to play guitar

  • can i bought it at stores?

  • yeah, depends where you look though

  • yes you can bought it at stores ;)

  • Awesome album...it just came out in vinyl too!

  • nice
