@duran3d It's a good question. Wushu is elevated training for speed, power, agility, dexterity, and strength. While there is no more sword fighting, learning wushu forms builds all of the attributes needed to be an effective fighter. If a wushu player never takes it into san shou sparring, then it's incomplete training. As martial art, the forms are athletic expressions of the art, but they also build the body for applicatioins.
i would only add, that... lot of people doing forms, does not even know, what are the basic techniques. It depends also on the teacher, who can explain the movements, not only the movement of the form, but also the basic movement of sword.
Pretty! But I wonder, would any of this dancing be actually useful in a real fight situation?

@duran3d
I'm in Wushu in Singapore, I am a Japanese.
Let me answer your question.
These movements are ACTUALLY very fast.
So its not dancing.........
But it will really help in acting.
Lets say this woman, running and 'ci' her sword.
If she poked her sword downwords, it may hit the opponents leg.
If she poke straight, it will go right into the stomach./......
anyway, as nitrusn said, wushu is a martial art.
