The March of Pigs reference is in there because Trent Reznor was inspired by Skinny Puppy to form NIN. It's where "Down in it" came from and a direct reference to Skinny Puppy's song "Dig in it." NIN use to open up for Skinny Puppy back in the day.
@rmhanzel I'm just merely stating that Skinny Puppy inspired Trent to write his first song "Down in It" that led to forming NIN. Sorry for the mistake you are correct that the song is "Dig It" it was a fast response. ohGr and Trent are buddies and you will find through out their history they give little nods to each other. This is just one of them. A lot of kids these days don't know their history and I'm tired of people saying NIN came first. Glad you caught the Public Enemy sample!
@Extremebehaviour they are pretty popular, fairly close to getting mainstream, it doesn't take long to find them if your looking up industrial music is my point
@xVictimOfADownx1 Well the lead singer is pretty well known (sortof) so they wouldn't be that hard to find I'm sure. But I wouldn't say OhGr is getting mainstream. I've never met anyone that says they listen to them.
I hate posting links here, but here is some good music ohGr made for a video game:
/watch?v=6x9bjSHmwqs
I realized I was listening to ohGr in that video game after 7 or so years... then I heard of Skinny Puppy, and I heard that ohGr worked up some music for Descent 2. XD
I love this vid... The dispute between ohgr and NIN doesnt bother me. Both Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson stole from him (Trent directly and Manson from Skinny Puppy) but I still listen to all of them. Either way... Great song/Amazing Vid!
This is an awesome song. I was fortunate enough to see him play live in Seattle, which he gave like three encores at the end of his set. Hopefully the next album
after DIMD is closer to the first two solo albums. Aside from the lack of mastering, I could only get into the first song, Shh.
Just because someone sells their work doesn't make them suck. Skinny Puppy paved the way and others liked it and added their own twist to it. Just because someone becomes "mainstream" doesn't mean that they sold out. It means more people are appreicating their music.

@FrOSTy349 Back in the day okay back in '91 amitted ripping off Skinny Puppys song dig it and laughed about it. Im pretty sure there has been a fued since.
@FrOSTy349 no, not really. lol and if you think trent made industrial music big in the mainstream, then you really dont know much about the genre. Do KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and PIG have multi-platinum selling records? No. Reznor popularized HIS work, not the genre itself, its been like punk rock, it has an underground following. if you do end up going to any industrial concert that is not NIN, Rammstein, or Ministry then you will see they have only a few hundred attendees not huge stadium fills
@FrOSTy349 skinny puppy doesnt want popularity cuz popularity is stupid. Trent admitted he copyed dig it, I don't think this song is about NIN at all. So why bitch?

Sucking life on a mainstream. I like the part when soldier kills Ogre with that strange "Skinny Puppy live" hat. Nice clip, like an illusion you have to give up. 'bout other ohGr songs - i reccomend "HILO", "WATERGATE" from "SunnyPsyEp".
Actually the lyric goes "Still sucking life from the mainstream."
I think the message of that part is along the lines of "I wouldn't have a problem with mainstream music if greedy assholes didn't get paid millions to write shitty unoriginal unintelligent uninspired music." But thats just my guess. ^_^
And I was not saying ANY of those groups you've mentioned sold out. I like Sister Machine Gun,Throbbing Gristle,Ministry,NIN,Skinny Puppy,Ohgr,FLA and Rammstein.
Trent Reznor hasn't sold out. Hes been giving away MP3s for FREE and if you want a Vinyl or CD version pay. He has not been making near as much money as he used to. He cleaned up from drug addictions, got buff and started making new music which you don't like because its not the same psycho stuff he used to make.
And since hes fixed many of his personal problems hes not talking about himself anymore. He addresses world issues like war, censorship, religion, dictatorships and big brother society. And if you take the time to listen you'd see he hasn't rally changed much at all musically. His works from Pretty hate machine all the way up to The Slip are like one big epic story. Past song melodies emerge in newer songs and beats from The Downward Spiral show up in Year Zero. Its all eponymous.
i still disagree and have to agree that Nivek is right on the "March OF The Pigs" i jkust dontl ike pop orented music, mostly because the genre has(allso as ITS CALLED) been made to popularitys bitch...
I kinda doubt thats the message, theres a reason the song is about the Mainstream and how it takes averythin in.. And i disagreee bbecause Ogre has said he hated NIN at some point when he turned into a popwhore.
Yeah the songs most likely about how many mainstream acts really don't care about how shitty their music is all they want is the money. Hence the line "Still sucking life from the mainstream).
But Ohgr didn't know that Eminem or Trent where even in the video until he watched it.
They said its nothing personal for Trent, they are just "Poking fun at an old friend."
Trent was never a pop-whore. I am pretty sure he hates pop culture.
They ARE NOT mainstream and yeah sometimes underground music gets popular but thats not the problem, the problem is the records wants to to make specific music for the majority(who may be braindead kids. or ppls in general) and the artist gets mnoey greedy too, his "free" stuff was crap(IMO ofc)(The Slip, 9000 or whatever it was called) ...
While what you said is true for Pretty Hate Machine. Yes it was an independent release with mainstream success.
The Downward Spiral is another story.
The Downward Spiral was produced by Trents label Nothing Records a subsidiary of Interscope who's parent company is Universal a mainstream record label.
The Slip is his most independent album.
He used to view music as his job but since he gotten sober and healthier he views music as his calling and hes happy.
@OrbitZombie The Fragile outsold PHM and it was released under his own lable. I'm pretty sure he made alot more money off it then PHM. That and PHM's ownership rights are all fucked up and currently owned by a bank, Trent essentailly makes writing/performance royalties off of it whenever it's printed. I'd assume he probably made a decent amount off of The Slip aswell, seeing as how he got to pocket everthing (minus overhead). And once you factor in the tour revenue that each album generates...
Underground FTW. DOWN WHITH THE MAINSTREAM-ERS!!! NIN is dead too... Atleast SP and OhGr dosen't do the music for money, and this is definetly Electro/Industrial!
lol neither do NIN do music for money dude, ill admit, im not big on Reznors Newer stuff, but that doesnt mean im going to call him a sell out just because i dont like his newer music (or his new personality, post rehab) also Eminem is one of the very few rappers out there in the mainstream that doesnt talk about "bangin hoes, shootin cops, talkin bout bling, lookin fly(? the hell is that)" etc etc.
Eminem's sux, listen to Immortal Technique (though ignore his libertarian nutcase view) and The Coupe(or Cape i forgot) im not even sure what the group was called.
I lol'd at the video. Nivek is entitled to his opinion...Actually, he's right. But I'm not so devoted to any artist that their personal vendettas effect who I listen to.
@Shoogle And he's possibly entitled to his opinion a bit more than the rest of the populous, considering his isn't that of an ignorant, moronic douchebag "trolling" on music he doesn't understand. And that, dear lovelies, is my opinion.
@plasticsmile231 No one is more entitled to their opinion than another. No matter how ignorant they are.
And everyone is also able to translate the music into whatever meaning they want. Some people cry when hearing a song, when others get riled up by it. But Shoogle is pretty much right on, regardless. :) personal vendettas against anyone... who gives a shit, just enjoy the music.
I don't know why a fight about this ensued. I'm a Ohger fan. Yes I'm american and I'm not proud of the prior presidential administration or the reputation the Republicans give us. I'm on the same Continent where Skinny Puppy was born. And I feel americans had some to do with their success. I will always love Skinny Puppy regardless of how they feel about americans. I feel it's important to listen to those who tell you when you are wrong.
lol after reading the comments below... why does it matter if trent and nick do or do not get along? I listen to plenty of artists, some dislike each other some are friends, grow up people not everyone is going to like what other people do and agree on their views/outlook. also to the NIN fans, you have to admit after trent came out of rehab he has had a stick up his ass.
wow this isnt like most of the music im into(manson NIN skinny puppy kmfdm etc) but it has a nice electronica sound to it, and this is the singer from SP? well done, video is cool too.
Well duh! Everyone knows that. Did you think you were making some kind of news flash? We are still on the same continent. I saw a video of how much Ohger likes the germans for their speed, efficiency and quality of work. Not to mention their label is German now.
I'm envious of anyone closer to the music I enjoy. I'm blown away that there are germans that only know of one industrial band. Like Ramstein and nothing else. It's funny how much Ohger loves the germans, and Nina Hagen loves americans!
In fact, Ohgr is not on good terms with NIN. They had an enema spa last weekend and it was all like "-Omg had u hear bout kanye´s intervention -yeah! hes just a faggot and his wife is deform -No she´s not" Then Tool came to the room to say hello but...
Thanks. I figured Ohgr was on good terms with NIN. Trent has openly stated Skinny Puppy as a major influence. I just don't take kindly to Ohgr fans trashing NIN. I like this song.
They should use effects on their voices in all their songs to cover for their lack of ability. Something much more typical of what they're talking shit about... the mainstream. Don't talk shit about people who you can't even compare to in any aspect of music from producing to performing,
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
u dont even got the right song. i know the songs. yes. it was a good idea to take something he was inspired by that was mediocre and make it a million times better. the reason skinny puppy couldnt even make it into the mainstream when the mainstream is good because most of there stuff is mediocre or utter trash. ever heard them sing. sounds like shit.
umm ever hear renzor sing? I mean i guess its good if you like emo voices with a whine which is probably responsible for all these terrible emo punk bands shitty singing then yeah.
i suppose you like lady gaga because she mainstream and all music that is good goes main stream correct?

Oh,and the toy soldier in the video IS OhGr. He seems to confront his past self (with the SP Live costume).

NN and Rammstein comes to mind!
THROBBING GRISTLE RAPE MINISTRY AND GOT A CGILD
Die Krupps and Sister Machine Gun > Rammstein
Skinny Puppy & FLA & THERE ISDE-PROJECTSD(OhGr, DELERIUM ETC) > NIN
OLDSKOOL NIN > NEWER NIN AND MARYLIN FAGGÖTH...
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
Entirely you opinion.
OrbitZombie 1 year ago
And since hes fixed many of his personal problems hes not talking about himself anymore. He addresses world issues like war, censorship, religion, dictatorships and big brother society. And if you take the time to listen you'd see he hasn't rally changed much at all musically. His works from Pretty hate machine all the way up to The Slip are like one big epic story. Past song melodies emerge in newer songs and beats from The Downward Spiral show up in Year Zero. Its all eponymous.
OrbitZombie 1 year ago
i still disagree and have to agree that Nivek is right on the "March OF The Pigs" i jkust dontl ike pop orented music, mostly because the genre has(allso as ITS CALLED) been made to popularitys bitch...
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
Ohgr didn't even know the NIN and Eminem shit was even in this video. It was a "surprise" by the animator.
If anything Ohgr gets frustrated sometimes.
He says that Reznor is 2 steps ahead of him musically. And the "March of the Pigs" in the video represents Ohgr being trampled by Trents success.
And NIN is Independent now you know that right?
OrbitZombie 1 year ago
I kinda doubt thats the message, theres a reason the song is about the Mainstream and how it takes averythin in.. And i disagreee bbecause Ogre has said he hated NIN at some point when he turned into a popwhore.
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
Yeah the songs most likely about how many mainstream acts really don't care about how shitty their music is all they want is the money. Hence the line "Still sucking life from the mainstream).
But Ohgr didn't know that Eminem or Trent where even in the video until he watched it.
They said its nothing personal for Trent, they are just "Poking fun at an old friend."
Trent was never a pop-whore. I am pretty sure he hates pop culture.
OrbitZombie 1 year ago 2
He NEEDS to make thep sycho stuff, or whatever.. fuck him.
AND YES ITI S MY OPINION JUSTL IKE ITS YOU(THOSE) RETARDS OPINIONS TO DOWNRATE A 'IMO' COMMENT!
OPINION BREAKER...
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
The downward spiral and Pretty Hate machine are Trents most mainstream albums...hes gotten more money from those albums than ANY of his newer ones.
OrbitZombie 1 year ago
They ARE NOT mainstream and yeah sometimes underground music gets popular but thats not the problem, the problem is the records wants to to make specific music for the majority(who may be braindead kids. or ppls in general) and the artist gets mnoey greedy too, his "free" stuff was crap(IMO ofc)(The Slip, 9000 or whatever it was called) ...
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
While what you said is true for Pretty Hate Machine. Yes it was an independent release with mainstream success.
The Downward Spiral is another story.
The Downward Spiral was produced by Trents label Nothing Records a subsidiary of Interscope who's parent company is Universal a mainstream record label.
The Slip is his most independent album.
He used to view music as his job but since he gotten sober and healthier he views music as his calling and hes happy.
OrbitZombie 1 year ago
@OrbitZombie The Fragile outsold PHM and it was released under his own lable. I'm pretty sure he made alot more money off it then PHM. That and PHM's ownership rights are all fucked up and currently owned by a bank, Trent essentailly makes writing/performance royalties off of it whenever it's printed. I'd assume he probably made a decent amount off of The Slip aswell, seeing as how he got to pocket everthing (minus overhead). And once you factor in the tour revenue that each album generates...

@thirtypointer182 thats excactly how it works man you know how it is independent is the new major label

Eminem is racist/fascist shit...
Underground FTW. DOWN WHITH THE MAINSTREAM-ERS!!! NIN is dead too... Atleast SP and OhGr dosen't do the music for money, and this is definetly Electro/Industrial!
MagnitudePerson 2 years ago
lol neither do NIN do music for money dude, ill admit, im not big on Reznors Newer stuff, but that doesnt mean im going to call him a sell out just because i dont like his newer music (or his new personality, post rehab) also Eminem is one of the very few rappers out there in the mainstream that doesnt talk about "bangin hoes, shootin cops, talkin bout bling, lookin fly(? the hell is that)" etc etc.
hellchild65 1 year ago
Eminem's sux, listen to Immortal Technique (though ignore his libertarian nutcase view) and The Coupe(or Cape i forgot) im not even sure what the group was called.
MagnitudePerson 1 year ago
ohgr did not add the nin or eminem part to the music video... the guy who made the vid put them in there to "surprise" him.
said so on some interview.

@Shoogle And he's possibly entitled to his opinion a bit more than the rest of the populous, considering his isn't that of an ignorant, moronic douchebag "trolling" on music he doesn't understand. And that, dear lovelies, is my opinion.
plasticsmile231 11 months ago 2
@plasticsmile231 No one is more entitled to their opinion than another. No matter how ignorant they are.
And everyone is also able to translate the music into whatever meaning they want. Some people cry when hearing a song, when others get riled up by it. But Shoogle is pretty much right on, regardless. :) personal vendettas against anyone... who gives a shit, just enjoy the music.

These lyrics are a little... transparent lol What happened to the opaque abstraction of Skinny Puppy?
Bluehawk2008 2 years ago
I don't know why a fight about this ensued. I'm a Ohger fan. Yes I'm american and I'm not proud of the prior presidential administration or the reputation the Republicans give us. I'm on the same Continent where Skinny Puppy was born. And I feel americans had some to do with their success. I will always love Skinny Puppy regardless of how they feel about americans. I feel it's important to listen to those who tell you when you are wrong.
sshatchell 2 years ago 4
Ogre's just mad Eminem didn't mention Skinny Puppy in any of his songs. Eminem actually was (is?) a NIN fan.
superbombast 2 years ago
lol after reading the comments below... why does it matter if trent and nick do or do not get along? I listen to plenty of artists, some dislike each other some are friends, grow up people not everyone is going to like what other people do and agree on their views/outlook. also to the NIN fans, you have to admit after trent came out of rehab he has had a stick up his ass.
hellchild65 2 years ago
wow this isnt like most of the music im into(manson NIN skinny puppy kmfdm etc) but it has a nice electronica sound to it, and this is the singer from SP? well done, video is cool too.

Ohgr is the industrial pioneer. We may admire the germans for Die Krups and Ramstein, but they admire us for Ohgr and Skinny Puppy.
sshatchell 2 years ago
@sshatchell They're Canadian. You're American.
deeptracy23 2 years ago 2
Well duh! Everyone knows that. Did you think you were making some kind of news flash? We are still on the same continent. I saw a video of how much Ohger likes the germans for their speed, efficiency and quality of work. Not to mention their label is German now.
sshatchell 2 years ago
I never heard the italians basking on the German's greatness. They're on the same continent.
deeptracy23 2 years ago
I'm envious of anyone closer to the music I enjoy. I'm blown away that there are germans that only know of one industrial band. Like Ramstein and nothing else. It's funny how much Ohger loves the germans, and Nina Hagen loves americans!

In fact, Ohgr is not on good terms with NIN. They had an enema spa last weekend and it was all like "-Omg had u hear bout kanye´s intervention -yeah! hes just a faggot and his wife is deform -No she´s not" Then Tool came to the room to say hello but...
You can read it all in "Industrial Gossip"

They should use effects on their voices in all their songs to cover for their lack of ability. Something much more typical of what they're talking shit about... the mainstream. Don't talk shit about people who you can't even compare to in any aspect of music from producing to performing,
robsplace1 2 years ago
Virtually all singers use voice effects to improve the way they sound on their albums.

u dont even got the right song. i know the songs. yes. it was a good idea to take something he was inspired by that was mediocre and make it a million times better. the reason skinny puppy couldnt even make it into the mainstream when the mainstream is good because most of there stuff is mediocre or utter trash. ever heard them sing. sounds like shit.

umm ever hear renzor sing? I mean i guess its good if you like emo voices with a whine which is probably responsible for all these terrible emo punk bands shitty singing then yeah.
i suppose you like lady gaga because she mainstream and all music that is good goes main stream correct?
