  • Whoever is saying that Curtis stole this from John Mayer, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!! John Mayer was barely a kid when this song was made! Retards I swear-_-

  • @DecemberSean Its funny that Curtis Mayfield died before john mayer even had a career. SO its more likely that John stole it from Curtis

  • Oh maan, why is this so similar to John's. I dont know what to think about it, maybe the key to success is take some songs from the past and make them great in the present.

  • Curtis Mayfield stole this from John Mayer - waiting on the world to change!!

Im watching you Curtis. NO REALLY!!

    NO REALLY!!!

  • I THINK THE LORD WOULD SAY TO EACH OF US "ARE YOU ONBOAED WITH ME OR NOT" CAN YOU RIDE IT TILL THE END, NO MATTER WHAT AND ENDURE? WE WHO "STAY ON" TILL THE LAST STOP, HE WILL IN NO WISE CAST OUT...THINK ABOUT IT

  • truly fucked up that people have to argue about stupid shit like religion when there's a great song being played here ..

  • Shows how much fun playing music can be

  • MY MAN SAID 'THERES A TRAIN'NA COMIN'....LMAO GO CURTIS

  • @scmm42 Wooo how sarcastic are you eh?

That is a rhetorical question. No need to answer that one. With regards to taste buds.Your definition is slightly out. It's purpose isn't to distinguish what you should and shouldn't eat.Think about it.Eyebrows are there for the purpose of plucking. Are you a 'plucker' You sound like a 'plucker' ;o)

  • I'm coming around to the view that we live in a spiritual universe. That is the only thing that matters. That at the end of the day is the only thing that remains.Love and hate, joy and pain are more concrete than any passing physical "reality". Rational materialism has its (very limited) place. It answers only how things are not why they are. Religion is the fossilized vulgar form of transcendant spiritual truths. If you want to be truly rational - nothing else but these truths makes sense.

  • Need info....Is there an album by C. Mayfield/ Impressions.

With People Get Ready, You've Been Cheating and First Impressions.

Tell me the album and you will raise yourself to hero status....and no mistake.

  • esto si que me gusta mucho

  • The best music show that has ever been on the tube - many of the performances that were brought out out were just amazing. Including this one.

  • How could someone be atheist? I will never be able to comprehend that not as long as I live...why taste buds? Why eye brows? Clearly planned design...just blows my mind and always will

  • @littleboeep Yeah so a giant sky man must have planned it all out ONLY RATIONAL ANSWER AMIRITE GUIES.

  • @halfaddict Who said it was a huge man in the sky? Thats odd. Are you on drugs?

  • @Tbaldwin1971 HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY BELIEFS IN GIANT GOD MEN IN THE SKY!!! YOU ARE GOING TO BURN IN ETERNAL HELL, EVIL MONKEY DEMONS ARE GOING TO PEEL THE FLESH FROM YOUR BONES LIKE A BANANA.

  • @halfaddict No need to shout. And you have answered my rhetorical question (indirectly)

  • @littleboeep evolution

  • @littleboeep How can you not accept that we come from all walks of life, all experiences that determine our beliefs?

I can't understand ANYONE that believes in God then stands in judgment of ANYONE else's beliefs. Grow up.

  • @littleboeep I don't understand why in heaven's name someone would believe in a fairytale

  • It was pretty good but no where near as good when he sang with The Impressions in the 60's.

  • How can someone dislike this? :')

  • Jools Holland? haha that's awesome

  • dis is so dope but he got nuffin on rick ross!!!1

  • I LOVE THIS .AND I AM READY

  • I stopped listening as soon as that chick started singing. She didn't have enough soul.

  • Probably my favorite rendition of this song. Curtis Mayfield and Taylor Dayne play off of each other exquisitely. Toss in David Sandborn's sax -- as well as the other talented members of the band -- and you have a very soulful and meaningful song that transcendes the years.

Hoping that Curtis "climbed on board." Surely, God had a place already reserved for him.

  • Wow, you can see David Lindley in the back-- the friend of Jackson Browne!

Jeff Beck does a great version of this song, too.

  • EPIC!

  • Why has he chosed a white woman singer, why no black. She has no soul in singing.

Sorry, I´m white from Germany, dont understand that !

  • It is interesting that at Christmas we open "presents", becuase the present moment is the greatest gift that life gives us. It is the only thing we have at all times, the only real thing that never ends. We eventually end up throwing out most christmas presents, because they cannot last forever. But the present moment does.

Search Truth Contest in google and click on the first result. Then read "The Present", to understand the nature of the present moment.

  • 恐ろしや、デヴィッド・リンドレーも、サンボーンも、オマー・ハキムもいる、カーティス・メイフィールドの神曲クラシック”People Get Ready"

  • good

  • @IAmjamieDbaby for you.from tweetyhawk696 Curtis Mayfeild People Get Ready.

  • Hiram is the ____ !!!!

  • I GOT GOOSE BUMPS FROM THIS ONE. SANBORN ON SAX LINDLEY ON STEEL HOW DID I NEVER SEE THIS BEFORE? REAL MUSICIANS REAL MUSIC WHAT A TREAT

  • A true legend!

  • Does people get ready for the real peace? They are ready for it. Their name is Soul Flower Union, a Japanese Legendary R&R Band.

  • haha good old Jools at the beginning! :D

  • Curtis shall always remain as one of the best black artists ever for various reasons:

    1. Owned all his recordings unlike many black artists of that time.

    2. Was at the forefront of civil rights movement helping black people.

    3. Preached peace and love between black and white even after his own poverty, deprived upbringing.

    4. Produced, wrote, performed music and vocals of all his music.

An unbelievable phenomenon. Thank you God for allowing me to see him twice in London live. wow.

    RIP.

  • BEAUTIFULL...MUCH RESPECT @ Mtl. MERCi CURTiS !!!

  • Just awesome.

  • Now that was real music... added to my fav.

  • Sixty people need to Get Ready...

  • +1 for night music DVD

  • Great song

  • Awesome! I love Curtis and Taylor is one of my favorite singers AND babes of all time, I have this on VHS from an NBC show at 2 or 3 AM from early to mid 90's I think , there's no reason to hang on to that tape, it's here for posterity.

    I appreciate it.

  • Lots of talent on that stage. I didn't even realize that was Taylor Dayne singing until I read the info, she had a minor hit back in the 80s.

  • slow dancing in a burning room??

  • i am a old school girl and yes this song touches all my old days. There's noithing like it.

  • I just watched Jeff Beck perform an instrumental version of this song last night in Vancouver. What a remarkable piece of music. Transcends all genres. The message and the music are simply classic. Thank you Curtis(and the Impressions).

  • Night Music DVD set, how cool would that be.

  • Christian dogma trying to hi-jack everything again i see. . . *sigh*

  • @ewildy first of all he was a songwriter label owner and a vocal presense and he left behind a tremendous legacy.we people who are darker than blue..was one of his poignants hyms-for afro americans he was the key voice for their civil right movements.after a lot of years i sung a song like Mahalia Jackson did.would you say he had a life time the principle of christian dogmas?

  • @ewildy It has gospel style, but its just a peace love, and understanding song from a time every second song was in that mode. "Talk about laid back man " Grat song, great version..

  • It does sound like "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room". John Mayer ripped him off.D;

  • So good. So moving. So real and so sadly missed. This is music at its absolute best: face the facts hatemongers you'll never win with SOUL in the world.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG !,,,

  • I'm moved incredibly by this piece. Even though i'm Atheist I enjoy it because there is so much soul, talent and work put into it.

  • @DQdabassist

Same here man. Any breathing human, regardless of religious conviction (or lack thereof) should be able to see the beauty in this.

  • @DQdabassist ViVA LA MUZiKA !!!

  • @DQdabassist...and if you listen to it as you might a spiritual...it is replete with religious allusion, but the words are just as appropriate for any social or political movement as they are in a church...

  • This song helped ease my pained heart! I lost my Mom, suddenly less than three weeks ago :(

  • @mommyofCboys This may sound trite but she's with Curtis now. God bless.

  • @Greenockianx Thank you so much for your comment! :) She loved this type of music, guess I got my good taste from her! I'd love to keep in touch! God Bless

  • Great song. Taylor Dane is so under rated.

  • I s Hiram cool or what. Check out his version of The Funky Broadway on

    Letterman.....best ever. RIP Hiram.

  • Ive been singing this song in my head all day =]

  • what year was this & where?

  • this guy look like he's having a seizure everytime he sings.

  • I love listenin to the poetic psalms of the late, GREAT Curtis Mayfield... the female singer who accompanied him was good as well. Not to mention, when viewin classic movies like "Glory Road", it makes us appreciate songs like this even more. Lyfe Jennings and Alicia Keyes composed a well rounded rendition, but of course, there's nothin like the original essence of the old school.

  • Our collective view of "God" is so unbelievably narrow and exclusive. Broaden your mind a bit in a spirit of love and compassion. So much bigger than the silly labels we've given and the categorization humankind loves so much. LET it be bigger. Stop putting the divine in a box. Love.

  • Whole lotta magic.

  • what year?

  • This might have been Curtis's masterpiece.

  • @hdtwoodsman "This might have been Curtis's masterpiece."

    yes.....but......Curtis WAS the Masterpiece !

Now days everyone's a "bro"........ but for me Curtis will always be my "Brother" !

    Respect.

  • Music about God isn't ever going to be stopped!

Some of the most moving occasions are now the

times when an audience is collectively moved

by a worship song and it means all the MORE

for that very reason of its not being "politically

    correct." We will carry on!

  • @skbnvacaville It always cracks me up how people like you fail to understand the concept of a metaphor. it's a great song none the less.

  • This song inspired me to prepare a sermon on how we need to fervently live in expectant of His imminent return. YBH

  • @BobElyCCC And when he does get back here, all the European royalty will be turning over the riches to him they've been keeping and collecting for his future return?

  • God bless Curtis Mayfield...I can never listen to this song without tears in my eyes. What a great performer and a great, great song.

  • Ronald Isley sounds just like him

  • I just love this version. DAM .!! Fantastic.!

  • I would not have heard this if not for Hed PE's cover.

  • Our local Jazz festival themed a whole year on "People Get Ready", and it was a lovely renewal of Curtis' love.

The main concert was a tribute by Hamid Drake and William Parker that was the equal of any musical event I have ever seen.

  • @lanufaatasi sadly, there are lots of people whose reward for focussing on money, is that, they make a hell of a lot of money, not coming to any short end.

However, those people will never be loved like Curtis Mayfield

  • @ben909ben

You got that straight!!!! Right On!

  • Awesome - Curtis was THE man!

  • cant everyone just respect each generation? I'm tired of everyone bashing this generations music! Yes there is alot of stupid fucking artist like Rickk Ross rapping about seeling coke but there are still good musicians that have exposed me to this kind of music like Kanye and Jay-Z! I think that they are great artist in their own right for paying tribute to earlier generations that have inspired them!. So instead of bashing them how about thanking for exposing a new wave of listeners to funk!

  • @TehDevilBringer I feel you dawg, i recently started listen to Otis redding cause of them. Like Beatles had their time, Michael had his time, Jimmi had his Time, Elvis had his time, Sam Cook had his time, Barry had his time, Tupac and Big had their time. Aaliyah, Lisa, Aretha, Janis had their time. Everybody Has their time on the mike. Ppl need to stop hating every generation has their time on mike. Though not every one deserve it -) Souljaboy etc..

  • @unddawg95 Thank you lol of course soulja boy dont deserve that shit

  • This is song from back then and it is the song now. This is the song. Listen to the words. Search your heart. Get ready!

  • @4golfable traincomesby once in a life get on

  • I love and miss this man. May he rest in peace!

  • one of the most under appreciated artists ever. curtis was bad ass

  • Great assembly of great talent there.

  • is that taylor dane? what the fuck happened to her? she was so awesome

with all the thrid rate talent thats foisted on us nowadays(yes i mean you gaga)

    we need her

  • @roman14032 First of all Gaga writes her own music...that makes her above the artists who rely on songwriters to make them stars....doesn't mean I would go out and buy ANYTHING by her.

Taylor Dane would be a HUGE star if her career had started in the last decade....she had EVERYTHING that is required to succeed in the music biz today.

    Curtis is a soul icon.

  • What was this program director thinking when they started rolling credits over Curtis? Ignorant

  • @cybermennn Might be SNL.

  • Nothin like listening to some music that has some meaning :D Im definitely in my zone

  • This man had a heavenly voice!!!

  • One time I went to this store and it said if you need assistance ask for Curtis Mayfield. lol

  • Someone once said that " Gospel Music WAS Elvis Presley's religon ". That's what I believe about this song, it transcends all religions. It is a message unto itself.

  • I am Brazilian and there is a version of a Brazilian band called"Oficina G3" is it worth seeing only a pretty good version and rock'n roll ... hug from Brazil a comment there ...

  • this man invented soul

  • Let's get real music back! Real music played by real musicians with real instruments. Enough of the pre-processed, auto-tuned and photoshopped crap they give us today!

  • Man I'm Droppin' big tears on this tune!I'm an old school Musician and this gives me hope in a hopeless world!

  • We're A independent label trying to make it in this game and the best way to do that is by being more known on youtube. One of the ways we stand out is we help unsigned artists get more fans by uploading there songs for a new fan base

You can change our future with one simple click.

Please thumbs up so other people can see this and check out our channel and comment with feedback if you like, also if you think we could improve.

If you like check the other artists we have over 50 vids up!

    Cheers!

  • This was the best show on television. It appealed to a higher mind, a discrete taste. That's probably why it didn't last.

  • what a beautiful soul curtis was and it comes through in a big way in his music. may you r.i.p. bro. curtis.

  • thank u so much for this beautiful song :-)

  • the song that inspired "one love" to Bob Marley...

  • So people get ready, there's a train a comin'

You don't need no baggage, you just get on board

All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'

Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

  • One of the best song writers ever

  • the guitar from john mayers song waiting on the world to change is similar to this

  • 50 people weren't ready.

  • Gorgeous... and RIP, Hiram Bullock.

  • 1:48 - oops a little misunderstanding :) What a lovely tune anyway

  • Music about anything God now is so taboo. It's unfortunate because these song's contain so much heart and soul; it's on a whole different level.

It seems music today is only about one-night-stands and making money.

  • @teahouse100 You are right about that. :) A lot of these classic musicians started out with Gospel roots.

  • @teahouse100 so true man, i think people are just becoming egocentric as fuck because of all the technology we have, i myself am not at all religious but the truth is nobody knows. i have tripped acid however and music tripping brings you too a truly special spiritual place. very few artists putting out music with soul comparable to this shit

  • @teahouse100 Yeah, it's like someone told them to "get fucked!" & they took it the wrong way

  • @teahouse100

all because of the illuminati music industry..

  • @teahouse100 I disagree. Most the people I know who don't believe in God get just as much inspiration from this (or more) than any Christian I know.

  • @rudygetsplenty Yeah I know, absolutely anybody can enjoy this song! I was saying that the subject matter of songs tends to be more superficial and material these days. Sex, money, "party anthems", etc. Or you can look at how popular "artists" are more about shock value rather than the inherent quality of their music - like Lady Gaga.

  • @teahouse100 Yeah super true about the subject matter. I think that really became the rule at the advent of piracy. You can't sell music anymore, you have to sell the image, and shock sells.

  • There are obviously 49 ppl not ready for change.. Sad.. smh RIP C.M.

  • SHOUTS OUT TO TAYLOR DANE!

  • I swear, the moment I heard that guitar at the start I was like "that's gotta be David Lindley! What a unique and awesome sound.

  • Sunday was a good day. Curtis Mayfield on a Monday It's just purely sweet and soulful. Hope it carries on throughout the week.

  • Thumb up if you're listening this in 2011. and You've watch Glory Road the movie.

  • people get ready there a train acoming don't need no ticket just get on board we will all meet the Lord!

  • Happy Birthday Curtis!!

  • bob marley sang this the best though...respect to curtis mayfield

  • Curtis!!!!

  • 2:25 GEORGE DUKE, MUSICAL DIRECTOR lol

  • R.I.P Curtis true legend

  • Supreme

  • This is my all-time favorite...love Taylor Dane too...

  • IF THERE IS A BETTER MUSICAL CLIP THAT MOVES YOU LIKE THIS NUMBER, PLEASE LET ME KNOW , GREAT LYRICS ,UNDERSTATED GUITAR GROOVES, JEFF AND JOSH DO A GREAT VERSION ALSO, THIS IS SOUL MUSIC.

  • curtis = god

  • Taylor Dayne!

  • Is she Joss Stone?

    ---

    É a Joss Stone?

  • @Flawinhoh Perhaps you've gotten an answer by now, but no this is not Joss Stone . Check the cover with Jeff Beck

  • To go from Curtis, Marvin, Miles to JayZ and Kanye can mean only one thing - IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!

  • @2JOHNNYT Stupid statement. Music and people change. I wouldve agreed if you had said lil wayne or chris brown. But kanye and JayZ are great artists

  • @Wesh67300 Yeah Kanye a bugzey, raised so rich he's almost a white boy, thats why he beats white girls like a sissy boy - he CAN'T SING nor can he DANCE - its all machines smoke and illusion - and JayZ - news bulletin his music isn't TIMELESS - like Marvin or Miles, or Al Green - wake up sonny boy

  • @2JOHNNYT

Hahaa ...Good one AND TRUE! ;-) LOL ...Harsh reality of todays music is product, not a whirphool of emotions like it used to be...and TALENT...LOOK AT THAT LINE-UP !!

  • @2JOHNNYT youre just a pessimist. look as dave grohl, john frusciante, the entire indie scene if youre into that- there are tons of bands out there that are great, its just the audience that changes!

  • @sexytokeburgers You are BLIND, DUMB, and most certainly TONE DEAF SIR!

  • @2JOHNNYT i dont know where you got that from, im saying that there are tons of great musicians out there, they just aren't as popular. i can't stand most of the pop scene, but you dont see me complaining because i decide not to listen to them. and im going to let you know that i'm quite a musician myself, as it is my passion. calling someone blind, dumb and tone deaf without evidence is in itself blind, deaf, and dumb. i'm not calling you those things, so dont get riled up. peace love and dope.

  • @2JOHNNYT end of the world for black folks at least

  • @2JOHNNYT 2 different genres of music... I could see if you said: "Curtis, Marvin, Miles to..." the countless R&B artists who don't write and produce their own music. I'm not sure what age group your in, but I'm 27 and Jay-Z and Kanye West should not even be mentioned with 'The Gentle Genius'.
