Just started too. Completed my first pattern... Took me a few hours and it came out like crap (but what can you expect from a first attempt?) Then I see this guy carving wood like he's scooping margarine out of the tub, and it makes me want to take a bath with the toaster.

He's scraping off the surface of the wood. He's not getting any resistance from the grain. No doubt he's excellent at what he does, but it's not like it's a hard technique to master.

erm.. actually yes, im studying woodcarving, making old style furniture, and i dont see anything so amazing here tbh, the main thing is to have sharp tools, to devote oneself in this hard, and a bit of skill :)
