The Arroyo Seco Parkway makes me think of highways in PA where the exits and some of the entrances are the same (Stop merges or yields where you maybe get 5 feet before being thrown onto a four lane (two in either direction) highway where everyone is going at least 65).
Your videos are highly enjoyable for me, especially the music. You have great taste. There is something I enjoy about transportation networks of any sort and LA is the most intriguing.
Great video. I drive this freeway everyday. If you do too it drains you. Everyone is always tying to pass you. I've seen some horrible accidents. People driving into the LA River. You can't blink on this one. If you do you'll miss your exit or worse run into a wall. The worst is the mornings though. You might as well be on a horse.
Love the videos wish I was in California instead of Chattanooga. Is the 5 North sign seen at about 1:02 the one the artist made or am I mixed up with another freeway?
Yup, that's *the* sign. Little did I know it at the time, but that would be the very last time I would see that sign. CalTrans took it down and replaced it with a reflective and brighter green sign.
at the base of Elysian park, there were some shanty-type homes and a large Mexican-american population around there (and in Chavez ravine, where current day Dodger stadium is) and they refused to move. The city had to eventually condemn their houses to get em out.
Hill St came to a "T" just south of current Solano Rd. From there, it was east over to Broadway, and there was an option to cross the LA river there, or detour through the tunnels and cross the bridge on the North side.
I filmed this on the 24th of October, if my memory serves me correct.
Wow, had no idea about the sinkhole. I've noticed the concrete pavement becoming more rough in recent weeks, up toward the northern end of CA 110 in Pasadena.
I just drove on this yesterday for the first time, coming in from the Interstate 5 north going into 110 north (right before the historic PKWY begins). I was blown away at those 5mph exits. I don't think I would dare try entering or exiting on them. They are hard to see in the video because of the speed but that only gives you an idea of how small they are. It was a nice drive, I felt like I was back in 1940, and coincidentally I was headed toward Old Town Pasadena.
Nice, yes I am from Mexicali, but because I have family in the Los Angeles area, I have much experience driving on the freeways in LA, but a few days ago was my first time ever driving on the Pasadena area of the 110, so all the entrances/exits and constant curves took me by surprise. lol
I look forward to anymore freeway videos you might do of the LA area if you decide to do any others.
Because the Pasadena Freeway/Arroyo Seco Parkway (whichever will keep me in your good graces haha) is historic, is CalTrans not allowed to make any major modifications to it? In this I mean adding a concrete median, replacing the concrete roadway, adding new gantries, etc. It doesn't look like it gets that much traffic anyway, so those additions might not be necessary.
That stack wasn't build back then for the high traffic volumes, but because of the terrain, the US 101 was situated much higher than the 110, hence, a regular cloverleaf wasn't sufficient.
Getting onto I-5 north is always a pain in the ass.

That is so cool! I wanted to watch a video of the Pasadena Freeway, and have always been fascinated by it. 5* Nice video, Brent.

Just curious FreewayBrent, when did you film this? I noticed lane 3 was closed for a good way and had Caltrans trucks parked at one point.
Wondering if they were taking soil samples after that Sinkhole opened a year or two ago around Fair Oaks Ave.

There is something unique about the Arroyo Seco section, don't know what. This is a really good one.

Eh, it's probably the limited visibilty due to the curves and narrowness, and the amount of vegetation so close to the road.

I just noticed that you're from Mexicali? I may have couple of videos of MX 2-D, in the near-future.

Scroll through my list, mainly on Page 2. I already uploaded several L.A. and San Diego area freeways in HD. A lot of I-5 videos, already up.

Very great video, you rarely ever see classic 1940s/50s freeway designs like this!

Very nice. Feels like an older Pennsylvania freeway. I-70 and I-78 in particular are littered with stop signs on on ramps.
Parkway West might have some, too, can't remember.

I drove the 110 North/South to and from Pasadena many times. The best thing about it is all the twisties in the road. A lot of fun!

Great vid as usual. I swear California roads make ours look like crap (I'm in NYC LOL).

Cool freeway/parkway. I like driving on older roads like that. S.R. 110 almost reminds me of S.R. 166/Langford Parkway in southwest Atlanta.
